JUNGLE TROUBLE by Nick Wang Once upon a time there was a boy named Nick. In his beautifully tropical room there were tons of jungle posters. Nick always saids, “I will soon explore the jungle and come back alive.” It was his biggest dream to explore the jungle. He was astonished by all the living organisms in the jungle. He loved the jungle so much because in science in school they learned about the jungle and his interest in it had escalated . He hoped to discover new animals and living things, and to help animals that were close to extinction stay alive. For Nick’s tenth birthday last year he got his parrot, Selena, from his parents. They told him that they couldn’t go across half the world to explore a jungle. Instead they bought him the parrot. Nick was satisfied for now, but still wanted to be able to explore the tropical jungle. It was a cool breezy day in the woods near his house. Nick was pretending to explore in the jungle and then disaster struck. While Nick was walking he was, concentrating on the leafy treetops full of birds and not paying attention to where he was walking, and then started sinking. “But in what?” he asked himself. He quickly realized he was in quicksand. “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO,” he screamed. Nick’s instincts were to attempt to pry himself out. He started to use all his might and tried

Once upon a time there was a boy named Nick. In his beautifullytropical room there were tons of jungle posters. Nick always saids,“I will soon explore the jungle and come back alive.” It was his biggestdream to explore the jungle. He was astonished by all the livingorganisms in the jungle. He loved the jungle so much because inscience in school they learned about the jungle and his interest in ithad escalated. He hoped to discover new animals and living things, andto help animals that were close to extinction stay alive.

For Nick’s tenth birthday last year he got his parrot, Selena,from his parents. They told him that they couldn’t go across half theworld to explore a jungle. Instead they bought him the parrot. Nickwas satisfied for now, but still wanted to be able to explore thetropical jungle.

It was a cool breezy day in the woods near his house. Nick waspretending to explore in the jungle and then disaster struck. WhileNick was walking he was, concentrating on the leafy treetops fullof birds and not paying attention to where he was walking, and thenstarted sinking. “But in what?” he asked himself. He quickly realized hewas in quicksand.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOO,” he screamed. Nick’s instincts were toattempt to pry himself out. He started to use all his might and tried

to hoist himself out with a branch, but failed because the branchsnapped in half right when he was trying to get out. This made himstuck even further. He was stuck up to his knees. Nick started tobawl because he was so scared! Nick yelled for help ten times, butnobody could hear him. It was hopeless. Nick is really scared. He isthinking that he is never going to get out of the vicious quicksand

Nothing could calm him down until he remembered the specialparrot call he learned.

“Yo Lay Hee Hoo,” Nick yelled. Nothing happened. He started tothink the special parrot call did not work and then, Whoosh! Selenalanded on his head. Nick tried to teach the parrot the special help callso she could alert help. However Selena was not cooperating very

well.

Selena was not listening and Nick was getting really frustrated andalmost gave up. The quicksand was ferociously rising and was nowup to his waist.

“FINALLY!” Nick yelled with relief as Selena repeated his call forhelp.

“Help my friend is in trouble follow me,” Nick practiced withauthority. Selena echoed back as she was perched on top of Nick’shead.

“Great job,” yelled NIck with some happiness. Nick startedcelebrating and wanted to pump his arms because for the first timehe had a little hope. However, the quicksand prohibited him from

moving his arms.

It had now intensely risen to his chest.“Help my friend is in trouble follow me,” Selena roared as she

soared away in the distance to get help.Nick was left saying to himself, “I hope Selena can alert help so

that I can live!”“REEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAREEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAREEEEEEAA

AAAAREEEEEEAAAAAAR!” Nick could hear a siren in the distance. Hewas so relieved that sound that sound. He yelled for Selena and shequickly arrived on his head. Nick was yelling his head off so thepolice and firemen could find him and attempt to pry him O-U-T OUT!

He was pushing himself OUT with the help of fireman, police,

His parents said, “Thank God you’re safe and thank God foryour tropical parrot Selena.” Then they got all mushygushy over him,smothering him in kisses. “Thank you so much!” yelled the parents toall the police and firemen who helped pull Nick the helpless boy outof the quicksand.
