voice BUSINESS June 2016 “Best 4th of July Festival” Nominee - USA TODAY 10 Best Readers’ Choice 2016 Oak Harbor, Washington Oak Harbor is an All-American City with plenty to boast about! The Pride! The pride that gave you goosebumps when you walked the Walk of Honor for the first time. The smile that comes across your face as you pass the jets on 20. The pride when you take guests to the PBY Museum. How about the pride as you heard this year NAS Whidbey is ranked #1 in military installations in the world? In the world! Who has been out on a cool, crisp morning and watched volunteers placing American flags along our streets? How many of you have stood completely still with your hand over your heart as our high school JRROTC present colors? Have you ever stopped to read the sign outside of City Hall that declares Oak Harbor to be a “Premier Naval Community?” Or the Sound of Freedom, that incredible pride in our skies—that sound that some of us don’t even notice until it’s missing. How do you feel as you watch 9,000, yes that is correct, 9,000 American flags being handed out prior to the start of the 4 th of July Parade? Or watching a baby’s first time experiencing the lighting of a dark sky in the form of a spectacular historic fireworks show? Or have you ever had the privilege of watching the first moments of a reunion of a husband and wife after a long deployment? We are many fabulous things in this community, but undeniable, our men and women who serve our country stationed here at NAS Whidbey help define who we are. We have been nominated by USA TODAY for 10 Best 4th of July Festival. But it doesn't take USA TODAY to tell you that we know how to show our patriotism and celebrate America’s birthday—not just on the 4 th of July, but 365 days a year. Oak Harbor’s Old Fashioned 4 th of July Festival—A Nominee. Yes, we may not be the largest in fireworks, we may not be the grandest in parades, but you, every one of you, show your love for this country and those who have served. This is for you! When we win among the top ten of this contest, we, your Chamber, will receive a plaque and use of a logo. I’m sure I’ll use up the bragging rights of this recognition. But, have no doubt, I know the energy of this event, the love for this country, and heart of 4 th of July Festival comes from you—the community. Happy Birthday America!
