Disconnect to Reconnect!I have a good friend who is the pastor
of a
church on the east coast of Florida. His church, like ours, is
involved in domestic and overseas missions. And, they are very
serious about the missions trips that they take being about
connecting - with God, with the team and with the people they are
serving. So, when they start a mission, they collect everyone's
electronics. In past year's, I've told him that I thought that was
a little extreme. But, now I have to call him and tell him he was
right.
When we got to the mission house that was our base camp for the
young adult Jamaica mission, the missionary there told us that she
was not going to give us the wifi password. No wifi for a week ...
how ever would we bear it? I had been feeling that I wanted to
unplug a bit during this mission, and it was like God was just
making sure that I did.
What we all discovered was that the momentary anxiety over being
"disconnected" was soon replaced by the enjoyment of connecting
with one another and with God in a way that we would not have if we
had had our noses in cell phones, tablets and laptops. Sure, we
would have had some time to talk, but disconnecting forced us away
from distraction. And, that was a very good thing.
Now, you may be thinking, "Well, that sounds very appropriate
for a missions trip, but what does this have to do with me?" Let me
answer that by asking you a question - What is your mission
this
summer? We may think of mission as a 'church thing' but, all
believers are the Church. We are always a part of a mission because
we are a part of how God is moving in the world and in our
lives.
But, don't cancel your summer plans. What I am suggesting is
this: God has plans and purposes to work out in this season of the
year and season of your life. Are you seeking to know what those
are? If you are traveling with you family, it seems very likely
that God has a desire to build deep connections in your family
and a desire to bless and connect with you himself as you
disconnect from your usual schedule. Let me simply make some
suggestions that might help make this a more meaningful, even
life-changing summer: Disconnect from electronics as much as you
possibly can (and this is probably more than you think you can, so
push yourself on this). Ask God to move in your family through this
season, and to make you aware of his movement so that you can
cooperate with what he is doing. Be intentional about continuing in
the means of grace as you travel, like reading the Bible, talking
about it with your family,
worship, sharing Jesus and the practice of generosity. Seek the
presence of God continually ... what a
great time to make that a habit that will stick. Commit to
giving yourself fully to your family
with the precious time you have with them. Don't check out with
electronics and such.

Ladies Wednesday Evening Bible Study - Wonderstruck by Margaret
Feinberg
Do you ever feel like youre going through the motions of faith?
Sometimes we do and say the right things, but our hearts are far
from God. We lose our sense of holy awe. In Wonderstruck, Margaret
Feinberg invites you to toss back the covers, climb out of bed, and
drink in the fullness of the life God intended. In this 7-session
Bible study, you will be reminded what it means to awaken to wonder
every day by learning to:
Develop a renewed passion for God Identify whats holding you
back in prayer Find extraordinary moments on ordinary days Discover
peace in knowing youre wildly loved Recognize the presence of God
in the midst of your routine
Begins, Wednesday evening, June 12th at 7:00 p.m.
Spiritual GrowthScripture Bible Class
The ScriptureBible class will continue the study of The Story,
this time focused on the Old Testament. This study written by Randy
Frazee is DVD based. Discussion and prayer time will follow the
study. Begins June 9th.
This group meets in the prayer room in the education building
Sunday at 9:00 a.m. For more information contact Sharon Leeds at

Spiritual Growth
Occasionally I hear people say I feel disconnected or I
havent
found my niche. That feeling all of us experience at one time
or
another in our life is often used by God to draw us into
relation
with Him and with others. As Minister of Spiritual Growth, it
is
my passion to see the people of our church grow in their
faith
while connecting with others relationally. Small groups are
the
place to make this happen. If you are feeling disconnected or
you
desire to grow in your faith, join a small group today!
God Bless,
Luanne Hunter, Minister of Spiritual Growth

Hurricane Season Officially Begins June 1stBy Rich Mospens, DART
Team Leader
The hurricane season which officially commenced on June 1, as
you know, can be unpredictable. Also, other disasters such as
tornadoes, floods or fires could happen at any time. It is prudent
to spend time in preparing for the possibility of a disaster just
in case.
DLUMC has a Disaster Assistance Relief Team (DART) whose task it
is to assist our DLUMC family members in preparing for and
recovering from a disaster. DART may also provide assistance to
others in need at the Chiles High School when it is used as a Red
Cross shelter or even those in more distant locations.
On the our website at www.deerlakeumc.org, under Missions, then
storm preparation
you will find a link to the Florida Division of Emergency
Management that can assist you and your family being ready for such
unwanted times, or you may Click Here for the link. We strongly
recommend you take the time to review the information and create a
family disaster plan and kit. You should also determine if you live
in potentially high water, flooding or saturated ground area that
could potentially cause water to run into your home. If so, now is
the time to consider flood insurance. Typically the insurance has
to be acquired at least 60-days prior to an event for the insurance
to cover a loss.
If at any time you believe you may need assistance in preparing
for a pending storm or if you are willing to assist before or after
a storm, call the church office at 668-0314 or Rich Mospens, team
leader at (home) 894-1750 or (cell) 443-2514.
Sharing the love of Christ with our community and the world.
