‘Take it to the Streets’ is the current studio album for The Angels and their first for fourteen years. Front man Dave Gleeson is highly entertaining and will perform all your favourites from ‘Am I ever

gonna see your face again?’, ‘Take a long line’, ‘No Secrets’, ‘Let the night roll on’, ‘Caught in the night’ and many more. Angels fans will know that bass player Chris Bailey passed away recently after a long battle with illness. Come along and pay tribute to the great man and watch The Angels prove

that classic pub rock is alive and here to stay.

President’s and CeO’s Reports

Reports

Ian McCann

President’sReportDear Members,

Thank you to those of you that attended the Club’s AGM on Sunday 26 May. At the meeting we were pleased to announce the before tax profit of $2,629,710 for 2012. It is exciting to see that this may be backed up by a record year in 2013 with the Club trading very well in all areas of the Club in the initial post-renovation period.

I’d like to congratulate the elected Board which was also announced at the AGM and I

look forward to working with you over the next 2 years. The faith entrusted in us by Members is greatly appreciated and we will continue to make decisions in the best interest of our fellow Members.

Unfortunately construction on the Grandstand at Ringrose Park was delayed. Buildplan, the initial tenders of the project, started work on the new Grandstand before they were placed into voluntary administration. This has no financial impact on the Leagues Club as a consequence of this. however, we immediately retendered the project and by the time you read this report a successful tenderer will have been selected to recommence work on the Grandstand for delivery by the end of 2013.

On Sunday 28 July, we will be hosting our annual Magpies Family Fun Day at Ringrose Park. Bring the whole family along for some fun at the footy with rides, jumping castles, a petting zoo and more, along with some action-packed games of rugby league. It really is a great day out for all and I look forward to seeing you there.

We’re excited to have 2Ue’s Weekend Sports Today show with Fatty & Gibbsy broadcasting Live from the Magpie Sports Bar on Saturday 20 July between 2pm and 6pm. This will be a great afternoon filled with all things sport and I invite you to come along and join in the fun. Plus there will be loads of giveaways on the day. And don’t forget that State of Origin Game 1 is fast approaching. The Magpie Sports Bar will be buzzing with Origin atmosphere and is the best place to view all the action.

We’ve given Members the chance to Relax, Indulge, Play and explore at the all new Wenty Leagues and now we are giving you the chance to do all that on a holiday on us in our Mega $30,000 holiday Giveaway. We are giving away four fantastic holidays to impressive destinations around the world including spending money so you can live it up while you are there! See inside this issue of The Journal for full details of how you could win one of these great holidays.

Ian McCannPresident

CEO’sReportDear Members,I am excited to step into the position of Interim CeO of Wenty Leagues, having been the Club’s CFO and key finance person since September 1999. I look forward to working for the Board in leading the Management team and driving the business as we enter a new stage of the Club’s life. Supporting a brand new looking Club post renovations, Wenty Leagues has grown into a venue of choice for great food, fantastic entertainment and great customer service. The

combinations of what has been achieved at the Club with increased parking, access off the highway, advertising, kids play area, Magpie Sport Bar, entertainment, multiple food offerings and a Café, that is the first to open and the last to close, have all led to greater patronage across all hours of the day and night. This surge in activity throughout the club is reflected in the membership that has now reached 44,000 having had 3,000 new members join in the last four months. The gaming, food and beverage trade has been unprecedented with trading records being made and then broken in quick succession. The total revenue for the four months to April 2013 has increased by $735,000 or 20% with a similar increase in the profit for the period. The priority is now to reduce debt and we are ahead of our target.Certainly that is not the end of the story and the Wenty Café, Lucido and gaming snack menu have been changed and will continue to evolve to the needs of the Members. The Lucido Bar will now be open to Members so that Café orders can be made at all times for all those families enjoying the Kids area. The refreshed TAB area to a paperless environment is also another significant update. On the development side the team is working on the delivery of Ringrose Grandstand, kitchen upgrades to meet the increased demand, pedestrian and traffic flow and finalising the detail from the recent extensive upgrades. There have been some great experiences and activity in the Club over the last couple of months with the major car draw, Mundine boxing match, Mother’s Day, Anzac Day and the Frocks appearance in Starlight Room all proving to be very popular with Members. We are backing this up in the coming months with some great events planned that can be found in the Journal. These include a Major holiday Promotion, The Angels, 2GB Live and school holiday fun. Don’t forget to check out wentyleagues.com.au for what’s on at the Club.I hope to see you in and around the Club MarkSheridanInterim Chief executive Officer

104 Reasons to CelebrateWenty Leagues’ oldest member, William ‘Bill’ Witt celebrated his 104th birthday this past April.

William, or Bill, as his mates call him celebrated the same way as he has for many years; by sharing a few beers and some birthday cake with friends and family.

This is a terrific milestone and on behalf of the Board, Management and the Club, happy 104th Birthday, Bill!

Bill celebrates his 104th birthday with friends, cake and beer.

Roll up, Roll up for the Holroyd City FestWenty Leagues is proud to have sponsored holroyd City Council’s annual City Fest with a grant of $2,500.

The City Fest fell on a sunny Saturday in April and, as was to be expected, Merrylands Road and the surrounding area was packed with street performers, amusement rides and food stalls.

Wenty Leagues proudly hosted a stall where Members from some of our sporting sub clubs including the Darts, Dominos, Ladies Bowls and Cricket Club helped hand out loads of goodies including balloons and stickers. Our very own Macca the Magpie also led the City Fest parade down Merrylands Road.

Brand New Club, Brand New Car and a Brand New Winner! The recent Brand New Club, Brand New Car Promotion saw Wenty Leagues packed with hopeful Members.

Members waited with anticipation to hear of the fate of our brand new Ford Falcon XR6 Limited edition valued at over $38,000.

The draw held on Sunday 7 April saw thousands of people wanting to win. After four draws and no one to claim the prize, the fifth ticket was drawn out of the barrel.

In the end, the lucky winner was Linda Thomas.

Congratulations, Linda! We hope you enjoy the shiny new ride.

Safety First at Wenty

LeaguesWenty Leagues has become the first

venue in Western Sydney to implement

schooner and middy glassware throughout

the Club that uses new tempered safety

glass technology.

The new tempered safety glass is industry

leading technology which ensures that if

broken, it shatters and doesn’t leave any

shards that could injure people.

Wenty Leagues hopes to propose a policy

to the holroyd Liquor Accord to gain the

commitment of local clubs and pubs to

join us in promoting a high level of venue

safety for employees and visitors.

Sub Clubs

Sub ClubsDIStRICtFOOtBALLNSW CupThe Competition commenced on Sat 9 Mar with a match against a strong Mounties side, the feeder club for Canberra Raiders, at Parramatta Stadium which resulted in a good win 32-18.Round 2 resulted in a win against newcomers Wyong Roos 34-24, which was followed up in Round 3 with a win against Canterbury Bulldogs 36-26. In Round 4 we came up against a strong West Tigers side at Leichhardt Oval and despite giving them a big start we came home strongly to level the scores with a couple of minutes to go but a penalty enabled West Tigers to convert and we lost 26-24. Another win in Round 5 against a near 1st grade Newcastle side gave us the best start to a season ever, but things turned and we lost the next three games to Newtown, Windsor and North Sydney by big margins.Coach Brett Cook, although frustrated with the recent results, remained calm and the boys worked hard to correct the problem areas, and with the inclusions of Ben Smith and Ben Roberts dropping back from NRL subsequently got back on track against Manly in Round 8. Although being behind 14-4 at halftime Wenty ran in 34 unanswered points in the second half to win clearly. Providing we can play this type of football consistently this side is capable of beating any opposition. We look forward to the remainder of the season. Congratulations to Peni Terepo who has earned a call up to the NRL with Parramatta.Ron Massey Cup:Coach Alex Chan has a very strong roster with numerous players from last year’s NSW Cup back and, although playing some good football, found early opposition Mounties (Round 1), Cabramatta (Round 2) and Auburn (Round 3) formidable losing all three games. In Round 4 with the team decimated by injuries and late call ups to NSW Cup the match against Windsor was looking bleak but the team really put on a show running out clear winners 26-14.Round 5 against the in-form Blacktown Workers was another challenge but Wenty proved to be too strong and won 36-26.This seasons Competition appears so much stronger and with more. Wenty have played 4 of the top 5 sides and although we are only 2 from 5, there is plenty of optimism and should soon start to string together a winning sequence.WDRLFC polo’s are available for sale and can be purchased at the Main foyer of the Leagues Club. A cheap buy at $45 each, everyone should be seen wearing one!Ron Bottle – Secretary

JUNIORRUGBYLEAGUE2013 looks like being a very special one for our club and its members as we have begun a number of new and exciting initiatives. Firstly, our Special Needs team is up and running and play/train at Ringrose Park every Saturday morning from 8.30-9.30am. Luke Burt and Nathan Cayless are there to assist our players and become involved in their education of Rugby League. All involved look to be having a great time and if you would like to come along and cheer on the players as they learn the game you are all welcome. For any further information please contact Darren Deitz on 0410 606 296.Secondly, we have a band of cheerleaders who are coached and supported by Lara Petrou. These girls look fantastic in their uniforms and are there to cheer on all Wenty Teams in the Mini Games played on Monty Bennett Oval on Saturday mornings. For further information on joining our squad, Lara can be contacted on 0417 651 949.All teams have begun playing in their respective competitions in the Parramatta District Junior Rugby League and we are very proud of the fact that 48 teams are representing Wentworthville in 2013, an increase of 4 from last season. Our Premier side coached by Dave Nugent entered into the Sydney Shield NSWRL

competition and is going well winning 4 of their first 5 games and are currently leading the competition. This team is going for their 11th Premiership win in successive years. Our A Grade side, this year coached by Chris hately, is also going strong and are yet to be defeated. They are a very good pool of players for our Sydney Shield team to call on when required as there is much experience and depth in this team. All junior sides are competing very well, and in another first for Wenty we have 6 under 6 teams in 2013 which will make the “roots of the tree” even stronger for many years to come.Allan McGowan – Secretary
