G ‘day
Only four weeks left for the Rotary year 2018-2019. Or one twelfth of our year together. We can
achieve a lot in these last four weeks. Keep going as we change over to the new Rotary year with DG
John McKenzie as our leader.
This month let us look at how we can increase and retain members. There are several clubs in D9700
that need help to survive into the future. We need to offer our help as best we can. Each Group in
D9700 has one club that need more members to become more effective in local community work.
Look to your neighbouring club and see how they are going.
This month we will launch a District 9700 Chapter of the Rotary Means Business Fellowship. More
follows in this bulletin. Fellowships are plentiful in Rotary over 80 at last count and some include,
“Wow! What a wonderful night we had last night for the Rocketman Premiere! Thanks to all those who
attended and bought tickets in the raffles and those who couldn't come but donated instead! All funds raised will be given to Rotary Mental Health, lifting the lid on mental illness.

District Training and Assembly or DISTAS, was held in Grenfell this year and we had an excellent roll

Rotary Club of Grenfell for the catering and hospitality, most enjoyable.
DGE John announced the new theme for 2019-2010 under the leadership of RIPE Mark Maloney.
The whole day was well received and it was not as cold as it usually is in Grenfell at this time of year.

H. MURRUMBURRAH-HARDEN GUEST POET
“Tonight we were entertained by guest speaker Ted Webber, Bush Poet performer from Young.
Ted became passionate about poetry in his 60's when he visited Jindabyne Folk Festival and was entertained around a campfire by poet performer Frank Daniels. This performance inspired Ted to pen
his first poem, titled "The Old Farm Ute".
Ted has travelled to many locations to share his love of poetry, even being invited to the National Art
Gallery to perform. Ted wishes to share this love of poetry with all primary school children in the
Hilltops region by way of a travelling workshop experience he is planning for late 2019.
Ted delighted the club with poetry performances including "Old Master" by CJ Dennis, "In the Stable"
by Banjo Paterson and his very own "The Old Farm Ute"”. Murrumburrah-Harden RC
I. RYDA WITH OBERON ROTARY CLUB AT BATHURST
Oberon Students Attend RYDA Road Safety Program
“The RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) – Road Safety Education Program was held at Mount
Panorama on Wednesday May 8. A small group of students accompanied by Miss McTrustry were both
confronted and challenged by the statistics and activities during the day.
Evie Eggins said she was “Shocked by some of the statistics, such as how P-plate drivers having
passengers in the car quadruples the chance of having an accident.” Interactive sessions and practical
demonstrations (e.g. braking distance) made it a valuable experience for our students. Thanks go to
the Rotary club for their support”. Oberon RC.

Photographer: Santosh Kale Rotary Club of Shirol, India Location: Pandharpur, India
The Judge said: “It documents the flow of humanity experiencing the Pandharpur Wari pilgrimage and
shows the architecture of this Indian site, the vibrancy of its storefronts. I also like that the
