34 il MARKETNEWS li Toshiba UK Launches 'No Cost' Replacement Scheme for R22 AC Plant Toshiba Air Conditioni ng, a division of Toshiba Carrier UK, has launched a ground-breaking lease scheme en- abling users to replace obsolete R22 air conditioning equipment with the latest high efficiency systems - in most cases for no additional cost. Despite the long-anticipated ban, R22 is stili ooe of the most common refrigerants io use in installed sys- tems. Under EU legislation, however, use of R22 for topping up plant will be banned from the end of 2014. David Dunn, Toshiba Air Condi- tioning commerciai director, explains, "Systems still runn ing on R22 will effectively become obsolete. The problem is that there is a huge arnount of R22-based equipment still in use across the United Kingdom - in offic- es, shops, hotels, restaurants and many other commerciai and public build- ings. Estimates vary, but there may be upwards of 200,000 R22 systems still in operation." He adds, "This represents a very serious exposure for building opera- tors. Toshiba's new lease scheme en- ables them to rep lace aging R22 plant with new high efficiency air co ndition- ing in a budget neutra! way. The sav- ings in r un ning costs in the vast ma- jority of cases pay for the lease costs on the new equi pment, giving up to seven years peace of mind - plus high quali ty heating and cooling for build- ing occupants." The key to the scheme is the use of high efficiency R410A eq uipment to replace old R22 systems. The new plant uses much less energy to de- liver the same cooling and heating to a building, dramatically reducing the user's energy bills. In most cases, the monthly saving in running costs wi ll equa! the lease costs for th e new equipment, making the replacement program budget neutra!. "It is a painless way for end us- ers to solve the R22 headache," says David Duno. "And the sooner peopl.e make tbe switch, the quicker the car- bon reductions kick in for their build- ing or estate, delivering a significant environmental benefit." Toshiba already reports keen inter- est in the scheme still dependent on R22-based a ir conditionin g. A key attraction in the current economie cli- mate is that the scheme solves th e R22 problem without requiring upfroot in- vestment in capitai costs. Eighty strat egie partners with Midea CAC joined this big event. The topic of the conference was 'growing togetber.' Midea CAC has always dedica t ed itself to shari ng technology and marketing information with its partners. Midea is working togeth er, sharing togetber and growing together wi th ali of its partners. In the global economie crisis situ - ation Midea CAC continues to grow globally. The key factors for the rapid growth of Midea CAC's business are strong product capability and an adap- tive market policy to all distributors. Midea is the leading Chinese company that can provide complete solutions from big chiller systems and VRF sys- tems to other heating and ventilation sys tems. At the conference, Mid ea CAC laun ched t he V4 Plus Super seri es VRF system and its fo urth generation contro! system IMM (lntelligent Man- ager of Midea). The V4 Plus Super system adopts DC inverter technology for ali compressors and fan motors, and t he IPLV of this product is up to 5. 8, which is the high energy sav- in g product wi thin the VRF industr y. Midea's IMM system is based around a centralized format and dedicated to the complete contro! and monitoring of ali the system's functions. It can be used as a flexible multi-purpose sys- tem and applied to a variety of needs, according to the scale, purpose and contro! method of each building. Maersk to Build Refrig- eration Container Bases in China and Chile Recently, the Maersk Gro up invested US$ 170 million to build its refrigera- tion container manufacturing base in Chile. Additionally, the Maersk Group has invested in cold chain logistics in- frastructure construction in Qingdao, China. Currently, the manufacturing bas e in Q in gd ao enjoys an annua! manufa cturing capac ity of 41,000 refrigeration co ntain ers and 37,000 refrigerators, and the annua! manufac- turing capacity of its Chile base will June 25, 2012 JAR.N reach 40,000 refrigeration containers and 30,000 refrigerators. As repo rted by Ch il e's Th ree O'clock News on Aprii 20, 2012, Den- mark 's Maer sk Grou p has invested US$ 170 million to build its refrigera- tion container manufacturing base in San Antonio Harbor, which is th e first plant of its kind to be bu ilt in Latin America. This factory aims to meet growing demand fo r the expo rt of fresh and refrigerat ed goods in neigh- boring regions, enabling the company to do uble its gl oba1 sales in thr ee years. Peter Nymand, Group CEO, stated that C hi 1e and its neighboring coun- tries bave huge demand for refrigera- tion container products, which is the main reason for Maersk to construct its factory there. The base in Chile wi ll not only enhance its an nua! manufac- turing capacity, but also improve the company's current production technol- ogy with better product q uality. The biggest challenge for this manufactur- ing base is raw materia! s up ply, and Maersk is now looking to key materia! suppliers in Chile, including steel. As calculated by Chile Customs, 25% of Chile's exports are fish and fruits.
