Come and explore the principles and practices identified by Vibrant Faith that nurture those faithful disciples. These are practices and principles that are not dependent on congregation size.

Deacon Ellen Koester, Director of Faith Formation, Advent Lutheran Church, Morton Come and learn about and participate in some easy to use faith formation activities that incorporate principles and practices of the Vibrant Faith Frame. These can be done with any size congregation. No experience necessary.

Digital Ministry 101: Real (Web) Presence Pastor Micah Garnett, Trinity Lutheran Church, Canton and Mr. Larry Gibson, Lutheran Church of Mahomet, Mahomet Social media services and websites are now essential tools for reaching people beyond your congregation’s immediate social circles. This forum offers insight for making the best use of these technologies in your context. After a brief introduction, the forum will include two breakout sessions. Pastor Micah Garnett’s breakout session is for congregations interested in starting websites or social media use, and will have helpful resources and give opportunities for you to ask questions. Larry Gibson’s breakout session is for congregations looking to improve their web presence, and he will review your congregation’s website and social media presence and offer tips and suggestions to make them more effective. If you have them, bring your laptop/tablet and phone to get the most out of this forum!

Digital Ministry 201: Possibilities for Proclamation Pastor Micah Garnett, Trinity Lutheran Church, Canton The Lutheran movement expanded rapidly in the 1500s thanks to Martin Luther’s use of the most powerful communication technology of his time (the printing press) to spread the gospel. This forum will explore possibilities for how Lutherans today might similarly use the powerful communication technologies of our time, including live video streaming, podcasting, stylized email newsletters, online giving, and digital worship bulletins. You don’t need to be a technological wizard to attend this forum--all you need is a passion for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in fresh and exciting ways!

Rostered Ministry: Whom shall we send?

Pastor Elise Rothfusz, Candidacy Committee Chair and Pastor Ken Sandlin, Staff Liaison to Candidacy Committee Come learn how you can identify and support future ministry leaders for the church. This workshop is also a great introduction for anyone interested in preparing for rostered ministry. The C/SIS candidacy committee members will also be on hand to answer questions about the candidacy process and provide you with follow up resources.

ELCA Foundation: Ministry Funding Plan

Mr. Tim Urness, ELCA Foundation Regional Gift Planner Learn how a gift policy, endowments, and planned giving can have a positive influence on your church. Let’s discuss how legacy gifts can be beneficial to the operating budget, ability to expand, and ability to provide outreach. How do we cultivate a culture of giving from our estate during the largest wealth transfer in history?

ELCA Foundation: Planned Giving

Mr. Tim Urness, ELCA Foundation Regional Gift Planner Let’s discuss expectation versus reality. What is probate? What is the best way to leave a gift? What is a gift plan? Why is it beneficial to have a plan for our assets? What happens if you do not have a plan? How legacy gifts can benefit the church of the future.

Statement Hearing: Women and Justice: One in Christ Convener: Pastor Elyse Nelson Winger, Chaplain, Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington Recorder: Pastor Amy Ziettlow, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Decatur; Hearings provide an opportunity for participants to share their concerns, appreciations, and suggestions about a draft social statement with the task force that wrote this draft. They also provide a place for participants to hear what others are thinking. However, hearings are not a time for discussion or debate. They are a time to offer feedback concerning specific parts of the text. Hearings are a critical and important step in the social statement process because they provide comprehensive feedback from across our church during the formative state of statement development. A copy of the draft can be downloaded at elca.org/womenandjustice
