Message from Father Jim

Becoming Catholic

Those interested in learning about Jesus

and the Catholic faith, or becoming a

Catholic Christian themselves, are

encouraged to contact Jarrett Wendt:

[email protected] or

515-233-3092. Your journey will be

highly personalized and can begin as

early as tomorrow! Adult Catholics

seeking Confirmation are welcome as

well.

Parishioners: Do you know anybody

who is thinking about becoming

Catholic? Please pray for them, walk

with them on their journey, and

encourage them to contact us when

ready! A great info resource is

www.formed.org, code: a12562

The Sacrament

of Marriage

The Sacrament of Marriage can be

celebrated at a time convenient to

the couple and in accordance with

the parish schedule. The date and

time of the celebration must be

scheduled only with a priest or

deacon of the parish. The couple

must contact a priest or deacon of

the parish preferably one year prior

to the desired wedding date, but no

less than six months prior to their

desired date. The St. Cecilia Wedding

Guidelines 2019, is available from

the Parish Office and on our website.

This contains additional information

and guidelines.

Baptism

All parents seeking baptism for their

child are expected to attend a

preparation session. Parents are

recommended to attend a session

prior to the birth of their child.

Next Session of Baptism:

Preparation for the second born

child is Monday, July 22, 7pm.

Godparents are also expected to

attend. This session will be held

in the St. Louis Room.

July 4 Independence Day.

As we celebrate the 243rd anniversary of the founding of these United

States this week, I offer you excerpts of a prayer for our nation

composed by John Carroll of Baltimore, the first Catholic bishop of our country.

"We pray O God of might, wisdom and justice, through whom authority is rightly

administered, laws are enacted, and judgments decreed, assist with your Holy Spirit of

counsel and fortitude the president of these United States, that his administration may

be conducted in righteousness and be eminently useful to your people over whom he

presides: by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion: by a faithful execution of

the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality.

Let the light of your divine wisdom direct the deliberations of Congress, and shine forth

in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government, so that they may

tend to the preservation of peace, the promotion of national happiness, the increase of

industry, sobriety and useful knowledge; and may perpetuate to us the blessing of equal

liberty.”

Amen.

Great sightseeing, traditional entertainment and fabulous

cultural elements define an amazing tour of the Imperial

cities of Central Europe (8/24/20—9/3/20). A city tour of

Budapest features the Matthias Church, where many kings

have had their coronations. Travel back in time with a visit to

a 14th-century castle, where knights with colorful costumes

and authentic weaponry recreate the days of chivalry. In the

grand city of Vienna, the baroque marvels of Schoenbrunn

Palace, the summer retreat of the Habsburg dynasty, are

revealed. See Prague’s Hradcany Castle and its famous Golden

Lane. Your tour concludes with a memorable and moving

performance of the Oberammergau Passion Play; the origins

of this historic event date back to 1634.

Support St. Cecilia’s just by donating your change

We have partnered with a new mobile app and website that

allow you to automatically donate the change from your card

purchases to support our work. It’s a small change for you,

but a game changer for us! You can check it out at

roundupapp.com and search for ‘RoundUp App’ in the

App Store or Google Play Store to download. You can also

contact the parish office for information.

Are your charitable contributions no

longer fully tax deductible? If you are

over 60, you may be able to make a

direct contribution from your 401K or

qualified plan to your charity of choice. If you are 70 or

over, part of your RMD (Required Minimum Distribution)

may be sent directly to your charity. You don’t get a

deduction, but if done directly, you may not pay any income

tax on the distribution. Contact your advisor to see if this

may be an option you should explore.

What is the Parish Life Committee?

The Mission of the Parish Life Committee is to nurture the

groups under our umbrella to ensure that all members of

St. Cecilia feel welcome and find a social as well as

spiritual home within our community.

We currently have 15 organizations under the Parish Life

umbrella, ranging from ministering to those experiencing

emotional hardships (Funeral Lunches, Prayer Chain),

service & fellowship (Circles, Play Group) and welcoming/

hospitality (Welcoming Committee, Coffee & Donuts). If

you have an idea for a new organization – and are willing

to lead it – we will help you with ideas and best practices.

Please contact Sue Scoles at 515-306-4041 if interested.
