Licking Valley Middle and High School Leo Clubs
On May 18th, the Licking Valley Lions Club and its middle and high school Leo Clubs joined forces and took a field trip to Pilot Dogs, Inc. in downtown Co-lumbus. There were 50 students and 7 Lions pre-sent. Pilot Dogs, Inc. was
established in 1950 with the purpose of training and furnishing guide dogs to those who are legally blind. Each year, Pilot Dogs trains and places approximately 150 dogs with new owners - making them an important, life-changing team.
The Lions and Leos toured the facility, learning about the numerous parts of life that sighted people take for granted. The Leos asked great questions while they listened to the information that was shared. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was the blindfolded experience of walking around the block, led by a dog in training. Talk about a challenge!
If you are curious and want to know more about Pilot Dogs, look them up on the web or on Facebook. If you have a heart for service, contact Erin Fee at [email protected] and/or check out the Licking Valley Lions Club, Inc. Facebook page.
Eighth Grade Trip 2017 was another very successful trip to Antietam, Gettysburg and Washington D.C.
for the Licking Valley eighth grade. 232 students and chaperones traveled for four days in early May to several historical landmarks that allowed them to complete
battlefield tours, museum visits, ranger programs and numerous sites around Washington D.C. This experience provided many wonderful learning opportunities
for the students as-well-as memories to last their lifetime. The Licking Valley Com-munity was again granted the honor to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown
at Arlington National Cemetery. Martina Prince, Makayla Carr, Shala Graham and
Grant Martin represented Licking Valley for the wreath laying ceremony. Thanks again to all the staff, parents and students that helped make this another great
year. We are already making plans for next years trip that is scheduled for May 6, 7, 8, & 9, 2018.
