That is right across the parking area from the Viet Nam Memorial. Please plan to attend . We also now have AMVET’s caps and polo shirts on hand.

Steve Bird and I attended the Washington AMVETS annual convention in Yakima on May 18th. It was very informative and we will report on it at our next post meeting, which will be July 17th.

Flag Day is June 14th and anyone that would like to help with the Downtown Flags; we will meet at the Court House on West Main Street at 6:00 A.M. and retire the flags at 6:00 P.M.

The month of May was filled with many veteran activities and happen-ings. This left no room

for the continuing pages from the Walla Walla

Chamber of Commerce booklet about the home-coming of General Jona-

than Wainwright to his place of birth at Fort

Walla Walla.

Alfred Mcvay traveled to the Nations Capital to

make arrangements for him to visit Walla Walla and lead the Veteran’s Day Parade on Novem-

ber 11, 1945.

Pages from the booklet will continued next

month and into the future as space permits.

Did you know that Memorial Day is the only holiday that begins with the flag at half-staff in honor of the fallen and then is raised to

full-mast at noon to inspire and pay tribute to those that serve on in their stead?

All in one week of May we recognize these very important people in our lives!

Mother’s Day, Sunday May 12, 2013

Peace Officer’s Memorial Day, Wednesday May 15, 2013

Armed Force’s Day, Saturday May 18, 2013

Early on Saturday morning, Boy Scouts along with one Scout Mom, met with AMVETS at the court house to raise the Downtown flags and to raise a new flag at the Land Title Plaza to Full Staff for Armed Forces Day.

In addition a passerby decided to show his patriot-ism and give us a hand. Everett Leader, a U.S. Navy Veteran and a newcomer to Walla Walla, was on his way down Alder street at the time.

We appreciate all the help we can get and we espe-cially appreciate the dedication and patriotism of the Boy Scouts of Troop 305. Photos by Jim Irwin
