We can ask, ‘Is this a thought that is limiting my life or is it one that’s supporting me in reaching for a more creative and expansive life?’” Through her work as a neuroscientist, Dr. King learned that cells are kept alive by the constant flow of life energy. If this flow is disturbed for even a second, the cell dies. We don’t see our cells in our bodies being infused with new life. The wisdom that is coming into our inner being is this infusion of wisdom that is carried by the life force that keeps us alive. “And what’s truly wonderful is no one has more of this wisdom than another, we don’t have to earn it, and if we’re alive we have it,” she explains. “We have new life coming to us every moment.” In another book she wrote called Cellular Wisdom for Women, Dr. King gives many ways to apply this wisdom to our everyday lives. She says this workbook has all the topics that she has seen stop women either personally or professionally or ones that have stopped her. The information applies equally to men. Most people face the issue of not feeling we are “good enough.” Dr. King says at some time in our lives we will feel this way because we look to our accomplishments for our credibility. “But cellular wisdom says our worthiness comes from just being alive,” Dr. King explains. “This gives us the birthright to be all we can be; it also teaches us there is always more and we’re often limiting ourselves by saying ‘that’s not me.’ It might be true that isn’t who you are right now. But it is saying that is who you could bring forth.” She says that she truly believes the challenges in our lives are there to help us become more of who we can be by meeting them. “I used to be very jealous of my husband,” she says. “Jealousy is an awful feeling because I would feel depleted, unworthy, and sick to my stomach. The emotional brain is a loop. One neuron is connected to another one that is connected to another one and so on. Think of a spiral. If you start a spark somewhere, it just keeps going around the loop. “It would start for me like this. ‘He has a new secretary. He didn’t used to be late before the new secretary.’ Before I knew it, I had built a story. ‘This isn’t the first time he has been late.’ And you wonder what is going on. ‘He is probably there and they are probably blah, blah, blah.’ By the time the poor man came home I was ready for a divorce. This loop had gained in energy. Like stopping a train when it is barely moving instead of waiting until it is going 100 miles an hour, I learned to stop the jealousy when it started. “In my mind’s eye, I imagined a stop sign and I would hold the stop sign and it would say STOP Limbic. When the mental looping started I would say ‘stop.’ “One of the things you have to learn about emotions is you don’t reason with them; no matter what argument you bring up, emotion will say that isn’t true. It took me about three months before I stopped having the tendency but it worked.” Dr. King says we can use this technique on any emotion that begins for us that we would like to stop. She points out that when we let ourselves fall into an emotional trap we limit ourselves and deprive ourselves of a life of creativity and “Our spirit can never be crushed unless we allow it. expansiveness. “We learn that we limit our own lives, we’re the ones who lock ourselves in prison. We can ask, ‘Is this a thought that is limiting my life or is it one that’s supporting me in reaching for a more creative and

ways in which you have acted less than brilliantly. This is how

one minor mistake can mutate into a diatribe of abusive self-talk.

So, use that awareness to your advantage. Consciously ask yourself

better questions: • How great can this get? • Wouldn’t it be nice if... • How many blessings can I think of? • How many positive things can I think of about me, my partner, my child, my car, etc. (This is a very powerful way to reframe negative thinking.) • How much bliss can I stand? Can you see how this is much more powerful than asking yourself self-disparaging questions? Ask one of your usual self-disparaging questions, and then ask one of the questions above. Notice how different they feel. An important tool to add to your emotional health toolbox is learning to come from the state of “the witness.” This is the part of us that observes what we are doing and saying. For example, it is observing you read this right now. Install this powerful witness as a sentry to your mental self-talk.

Learn to become more and more aware of subconscious self-talk. Most people do not realize how cruel and how frequent their negative self-talk is. When it has gone unchecked for years, you can become desensitized to the damage it is doing. Employing the witness will create some protection and support for improved self-esteem. When you catch yourself thinking something negative: 1) Stop! 2) Step back. 3) Take a breath. 4) Flip it. (Say to yourself, “Okay, that’s what I don’t want, what is it that I do want?) Be careful not to scold yourself for catching a negative thought. After all, this is a habit you have had unchecked for years, even decades. The last thing you want to do is to beat yourself up, for beating yourself up, for beating yourself up... It is also important to make sure you replace the negative “don’t want” with a positive goal or dream. In other words, after you pull weeds, plant flowers. With weeds, it’s important to pull out the roots or they will keep growing back. With our thoughts, it is important to go deeper into why some negative event or thought is constantly on replay. We must dig out all the causes right down to our roots (our childhood or our past) and pull them out. The negative thoughts in our minds are taking up mental space that could more effectively and beautifully be filled with positive thoughts. This is the actual way to get rid of negative thoughts, by pulling those negative thoughts out by the root and planting positive thoughts instead. Whenever you have a negative thought, it is beneficial to focus on a positive fact, hold on to that fact, and let it sink in.

Gardening Your ThoughtsBy Brad Simkins

Negative thoughts persist essentially because we let them grow, like weeds. Weeds are natural; they grow and will always grow because nature always changes (weeds grow in areas that are disturbed by wind, fire, landslides, floods, etc.). But weeds especially overgrow in gardens, where they must be eliminated because they steal nutrients from flowers. So as life presents us with challenging experiences, we will consistently have negative thoughts until we learn to replace them with positive ones.

Many people do not realize the power of the dialogue that goes on in their mind. The human mind is a great servant, the heart a great leader. However, when we let the mind ramble on, uncontrolled, it is like a young child trying to drive a semi-truck. It goes crashing around, out of control, and can potentially cause great damage. One example of this is when we mentally ask ourselves questions. The human mind is programmed to answer whatever question we pose to it. For example, when we make a mistake, we might, in frustration, think to ourselves, “Why am I such an idiot?!” Unfortunately, the subconscious mind does not understand the difference between a hypothetical question and a direct question, so it launches into answering the question. Within moments, you have a long list of

Page 3: JUNE 2011

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you had to make big changes in a hurry, feel in overwhelm, and need some guidance? Here are some ideas. A few weeks ago, I sent an article to people who subscribe to my inspirational e-mail list. The article was about how to make big changes in our lives. The response to it was so positive that I have posted it at the New Spirit Journal website in the inspirational article section (www.newspiritjournal.com). However, a few people wrote and said my ideas were great if their situation was one that would allow them to plan and get themselves organized. To the contrary, they said, their circumstances were such that they had to take immediate action and that they were feeling so scared and vulnerable that they couldn’t even think or access any sort of guidance. If you find yourself in such a situation, here are some ideas for you.

1. Breathe. Allow yourself to take a few moments and simply breathe. It is amazing but when we are tense, scared, or under

for you as a first step. Sometimes the solutions don’t come in the form of an avalanche of information. Sometimes the solution comes in pieces, a little bit at a time and our job is to take action on what we’re given. This opens the door to more information flowing.

8. Keep doing this process until you hit upon the action you need to take. If absolutely nothing comes to you after trying this a few times, the answer is for you to do nothing and to wait for further information. Sometimes we think we have to act when all we really have to do is wait for conditions to change and our worrying is causing them to stay in place. If you are a meditator, taking your problem into your meditation space in order to let go of it and allow answers to flow is another great way to

deal with challenges. I have found, however, that people who are in panic mode have great difficulty relaxing enough to meditate. Following the above steps seems to offer a good combination of activity and receptivity that allows answers to flow. Remember: we are never given anything we can’t handle. I know that sometimes it seems our situation is hopeless, but it is not. We are being called to step up to a higher level of faith and trust as well as being given the opportunity to develop some new skills. Sometimes we are given really big challenges to make us strong so we can face a new chapter in our lives. It can be difficult to embrace difficulties. Life is much easier when things are flowing smoothly. However, this is not always a planet of easy. Life can be difficult. The sooner we embrace whatever challenges we’re facing, the sooner we can learn what we need to learn and enjoy the next chapter in our lives.

some sort of stress, the first thing we do is hold our breath. So, drop your shoulders and take several nice, deep breaths.

2. Take a walk or do something else physical, something that will allow your muscles to loosen up and relax somewhat. It’s very difficult to be open and receptive to answers when our bodies are tight.

3. Get a piece of paper and write down the challenge you’re facing. (If you have more than one, do only one at a time or you will get overwhelmed). Write about it in as much detail as you can. I find it helpful to write this as a letter to God, my angel, a guide, or, sometimes, to a specific person I think might have an answer for me. For instance, if I had an issue facing my business as a newspaper, I might write to William Randolf Hearst, someone who knows about publishing a newspaper.

4. After writing about the issue, take another walk or go do something physical again to clear yourself.

5. Come back and write an answer to yourself as if you are the person you wrote to. Be open to hearing as much detail as possible, even if you don’t like the answers or think the information is not practical or doable for you. Just receive the information. Don’t edit.

6. Put the writing away and go live your life for at least a few hours. It would be good to do something physical again, something that will keep you from sitting around and stewing about your problems.

7. Come back and read your letter and the response. You may or may not have a huge “aha.” You might only have a tiny one. Something should come through

Holding on to that positive mental image causes your brain to automatically scan for the good as well as the bad, instead of just the bad. With time, this will become routine and automatic for your brain.

Gardening Your Thoughts Most of our negative thoughts are not facts but worries, and worries are not real, they are mental imagery; so remind yourself of the pure facts and focus on what is positive. Gardening is hard work, but we must do it because a mind filled with flowers

instead of noxious weeds is worth the effort. Your happiness, your peace, your joy, your pain, your stress, and your life are managed by you. You and only you have the power to experience your life from a certain vantage point. Therefore, no one but you can work in your mental garden. Show up, look around, and please clean up while you’re there. This is why people suffer mental fatigue and emotional exhaustion. On the path to becoming a better person, they face things superficially: events, beliefs, experiences, and actions that they glance at and then hide from view in their mental garden. But then they discover that the rain always falls and uncovers the mess. So they learn to see their negative thoughts and the underlying causes. So from this day forward, no longer trim those weeds; pull them from the root. May all our gardens be full of flowers.

By Jennifer Longmore

The term “spiritual leadership” may bring up certain energies in you, depending upon how you define it. Some people feel that they are not a spiritual leader unless they have reached a certain level of fame, or self-sacrifice, or they are living life like the Dalai Lama. I believe that all of us have a spiritual leader inside waiting to come alive and be fully expressed in its own unique way. According to Webster’s Dictionary, “a leader is one who influences others.” So, spiritual leadership is impacting others from spirit, and as such, we have all divinely touched or inspired someone in our life (whether we are

consciously aware of our impact or not). The key to living from a place of spiritual leadership is to do so actively and consciously. It means starting with being the inspired leader for ourselves and our own journey so that we can also play that role in someone else’s journey. Some of us will affect the masses with our message as spiritual leaders, while others may have a profound impact in less public ways. Either way is no more or less valuable than the other, they are simply an expression of how each of us are called to bring spirit through us. You may be the connector. The person that feels passionate about connecting souls with each other because of a deep feeling that certain folks are meant to meet. You may be the teacher. The person who everyone comes to for guidance about how to do something (and as such, they experience change). You may be the wisdomkeeper. The person who everyone seeks

out for insight and enlightenment, thus seeming to be at the right place at the right time (always). You may be the nurturer. The person who loves others until they are strong enough to see the love within themselves (so that they can, in turn, nurture others). You may be the catalyst. The person who people are attracted to (whether they know it or not) when they need a catalyst to ignite change in their lives. Do you see a theme here? All of these roles (and of course, there are many more), are the flame that lights another’s candle. What makes these roles more expansive is when we become conscious of our impact, and own our role as spiritual leader by way of who we consistently attract. Once you own who you are, then you can become more conscious about your spiritual leader and align to these energies. Here is some of what you need to accelerate this journey:

1. Huge vision See yourself where you would

like to be five years from now. Who are you impacting? Who have you become? What have you created? How does it feel to be in this vision?

2. Powerful Intentions Allow yourself to become crystal clear about how you want to feel in your inner world, and what you wish to create for yourself and others in your outer world. Then, begin a daily practice of intentionality. How is your day going to unfold? What are you going to attract to yourself? How do you want to feel? How do you want others to feel in connection with you? What do you wish to create?

3. Clear Strategy

Examine your huge vision, then break it down so that you begin with the first logical step that is going to get you there, and then the next, and the next. I find it helpful to create a 12-month plan of what seems the most fitting to move me closer to my larger vision. Remember that it is always about the journey, not the

destination.4. Positive Support

You can create a certain level of impact as a spiritual leader on your own. I can share with you that it is much more joyful, easy-breezy, and impactful to have positive support, especially if you desire to make a greater impact. This may include social support, family support, collegial support, and mentorship. Take inventory about the level and quality of support you have right now, and ask yourself what additional support you need to move you to the next level.

5. Inspired Action What is one action that you can implement right away to move you that much closer to fully aligning to your spiritual leadership?

combing, what I have consistently seen is that the fleas alter their normal behavior, usually by the third combing. They no longer

gather in the usual places and I will find them on the sides of the animal, in the middle of the back, and farther out on the tail. How do they know to do that? Then there were the flies. I thought I had a good relationship with them. They didn’t bother me and I didn’t bother them. When the occasional one would come into the house, they would either take my visual direction to fly out or they would

let me catch them so I could put them outside. That all changed when I lived in the basement of my father’s house for several years. Because the basement tended to be dark, there were four large, long multiple-tube, florescent light fixtures overhead. They were on all the time except at night. I came home one day to find, to my shock, those fixtures covered with large, black flies. Not the little housefly types but the huge, maybe half-inch size ones. There had to be hundreds of them. Yikes! What to do, what to do? I was not willing to kill them and using a toxic spray to do so was not an option because of my cats that had to be confined to that area. When talking to them did not work immediately, I was not willing to live with them longer to explore that option. I decided to physically remove them myself. That meant I had to catch them first. I used the glass over them, slide a piece of cardboard under the opening and out they went. There were not very fast so I was able to get the majority out in day or two. The ones that remained were getting better and better at avoiding my capture. I would get close and they would just fly away and land somewhere else in the room. They just did not want to leave.

Hindsight being 20-20, I could have been more patient. I was not, and escalated my capture technique. Unfortunately, in my haste, I unintentionally killed a few. That is when everything changed. What I witnessed after that was truly amazing to me. When my father came down, they did nothing and stayed where they were. That was not the case with me. When they saw me coming they would fly long before I could get close. Then they altered their behavior. The remaining flies stopped gathering on the light fixtures. They began hanging out elsewhere in the room. Since I had become very adept at catching them, when they saw me coming they began to hide. They didn’t just fly to another landing spot; they actually landed out of sight somewhere. It didn’t take me long to figure out where they were going. One long wall of the basement was closet space. The doors were made out of slatted wood. Kind of like Levelor blinds (I think that is what you call them). The flies would hang on the outside of the doors until they saw me coming. Then they would move under a slat, inside the closet. Once I moved away from the area, out they would come. I was so impressed with their intelligence that I actually spent a lot of time observing them. I’d see them hide under a slat. I intentionally stayed fairly close and to my amazement they would ever so carefully sneak a peek at me. When they saw me, they would duck back into the closet. I eventually healed my relationship with flies. I will tell you how next time and then talk about what everyone has been waiting for, the moles...

When the subject for this month’s column started running around in my head, the title – Innate Intelligence – came easily. Those words, at least to me, describe the concept that I want to share with you. As I sat down to begin writing, it occurred to me that since I really did not know the exact definition of the title words, perhaps I should Google them to be sure I knew what I was going to talk about. As it turned out, that was a good idea, because it doesn’t technically mean what I thought it did. Innate intelligence is a concept that was originally coined by the founder of chiropractic, Daniel David Palmer. Really? I didn’t know that. Very simply put, he used these words to describe an inborn ability in physical bodies to heal themselves once the spinal column was in alignment. I am taking the liberty here to expand his definition. So, for the purpose of this article, to me those words include an inborn ability of living creatures to know what to do in order to survive. As an animal behavior therapist, radio host, and columnist, I am often asked how to deal with insects or animals that are causing a problem of some kind. As a human living on this planet, I also must sometimes deal with this situation. I have already written here about some of my personal experiences in this regard, like the hornets’ nest I found outside my front door just before putting

that house up for sale. I realized however, that I have never written about this subject. I believe if I share what I have observed in my own experiences, it will help you if you find yourself needing to “get rid of” unwanted “pests.” The first experience I had with this innate intelligence began years ago with fleas. At first I thought it was just a fluke, but the same thing has happened every time fleas have entered my domain. As most of you already know, I do not want to use toxic chemicals to deal with fleas and I am willing to work a little harder to avoid that. I do check my animals regularly for fleas, especially this time of year because fleas can catch a ride into the environment on humans or whatever. If I discover fleas on my animals, the first thing I do is to begin a regular – like several times a day – flea combing. To save space, I am only going to relate the cat situation here. By the way, cats rarely scratch themselves unless they have fleas on them. So if I see a cat scratch, I go for the flea comb. Fleas tend to gather on specific places of the body so I begin by combing the neck and throat and then the base of the tail area. By far these places are where most of the fleas will be. Once I start the regular

that you can feel proud of and respected for. A large nose often reveals a sensitivity to criticism, as well as a strong inner critic. It’s said you should never offer “constructive criticism” to someone with a big nose because they’re already so highly self-critical that they’ll feel mortified knowing you also noticed they did something wrong. Having the same nose as your father doesn’t mean you’re exactly the same as he. Of course, your nose is just one aspect of your face, representing one detail of your inner nature, and we won’t know the whole picture without considering the meaning of all the parts. But also, there are many ways to express the characteristics communicated by your nose. Your father may have expressed them in one way and you in another, but the personality patterns can still be observed if you know what to look for.

Dear Jean, My son graduates from college this month. Is there some way I can tell from reading his face what his future will be?

Jean’s reply: Someone’s face can show you the map of that person’s life journey; where they’ve been, where they stand right now, and where they’re going from here, based on who they are in this moment. Some people think that your face can show your destiny, as if it’s carved in stone, but that’s not correct. The foundation of face reading is the understanding that everything is always changing, energy is always moving.

Therefore, I always advise not worrying too much about the distant future and concentrating more on what’s most important in this moment. Because as you change, your future changes. For your son’s life journey, I’d advise taking a look at one part of his face – his forehead – because this feature represents where he stands right now and the short-term future. The forehead shows us someone’s

experience of life in their late teens through the decade of their 20s. What you most want to notice is the shape of the forehead, which is best viewed from the side. There are basically three different shapes of foreheads: 1. Rounded: If his upper forehead is domed or rounded, this indicates he’ll be likely to explore life in his 20s; have some adventures, perhaps travel around or do some unusual jobs. But he’ll probably not settle into the kind of career at age 21 that he’ll then get the gold watch for 50 years later. Don’t be worried if it looks like he’s wandering in this stage of life; he is, and he’s meant to. 2. Slanted: If his forehead slants back from the brow, it reveals that he’s in a hurry to get down to business. He’ll probably be very entrepreneurial, or a real go-getter in whatever he chooses. He’ll value taking action, but may tend to leap before he looks;

and as a result, learn important life lessons. 3. Straight: If his forehead has no slant or roundness but instead seems to be a straight line from his hairline to his eyebrows, this indicates he’ll think things through and go more slowly, without being overly impulsive. This kind of forehead also signifies that he won’t have to deal with working out family karma; instead he’s carving his own path in life.

Dear Jean, It seems to me that we have the facial features that we do simply because of genetics. I have a big nose because my father had a big nose and I inherited those specific genes. Logic would say that heredity determines what kind of face we get.

Jean’s reply: Absolutely correct; you have the kind of nose you do because your father had that nose. And you also have the personality characteristics associated with that nose. There is no conflict between science and Chinese face reading. In fact, Chinese face reading is science; it’s an ancient branch of Chinese medicine. Chinese medicine first used face reading as a diagnostic tool, as they realized that the patterns of wrinkles and markings, and the size and shape of each feature correlated to certain illnesses and ways the body would tend to behave. But as they researched further, they also recognized that these same patterns were indicative of personality characteristics. For instance, the big nose you inherited from your father means that you probably care very much about the quality of your work. And because of this you may work harder than most people, to ensure that whatever you produce is done as well as it can possibly be. At the extreme, it could indicate you have perfectionistic tendencies, always concerned that you’ve done something well enough. That big nose could also mean that you dislike small talk at parties; instead preferring more meaningful conversations. In life, it’s likely to be more important to you than to other people that you’re able to live an authentic life and do meaningful work

What will happen in 2012?

Of course, this is the big question, – and the answer – is we don’t know. There are countless metaphysical theories and opinions, and many of them either point to good or bad news, end times or rebirth, judgment day or liberation. And then some say that nothing is happening. There is always risk of believing something simply because we hear it enough (as our newsmakers, advertisers, and politicians know quite well). In my view, from what I have read, researched, and more importantly, felt in my heart, we are going through a tremendous shift, from an age of madness, duality, competition, and separation, into an age of reason, connection, and unity consciousness. Everything is changing.

Is this a one day shift, or is the shift happening now?

Again, we do not know if something specific will happen on Dec. 21, 2012, which is the end of the Mayan calendar and world age, according to prophesies. Most scientists acknowledge that there is a specific moment, on Dec. 21, 2012, when we have a rare alignment, a precession of the equinox, where our solar system aligns with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in nearly 26,000 years. We do not know what this means, or what exactly will happen. We do know (or at least those of us who are paying attention and not living in denial) that things on earth are

changing now. Tumultuous activities and upheaval (earthquakes, climate change, etc.) are common at the end of every world age (generally every 5,000 years). The magnetic fields have weakened, and this is affecting the whales, dolphins, wildebeests, hummingbirds and other creatures that use the grids and energy fields for direction and mating patterns. Historically, there have reportedly been 14 polar shifts over last 4.5 million years, always preceded by climate change, weakening field, again, at the end of a world age. If there is a partial or full polar shift, there could be a day or so of darkness, along with much upheaval.

What is a world age?

In the Mayan cosmology, it is about 5,125 years. In the Hindu tradition it’s a yuga. Some feel we are exiting the kali yuga, the age of the cycle where we have the most forgetfulness of who we are, the most density, drama, and delusion. When Jesus talked about the end of the world, perhaps he was speaking about the end of a world age. It is not the end of the world, but the end of the world as we know it. So, there are cycles within cycles, and when we make mistakes, we get these opportunities to wake up, remember, see what mistakes we have made, and do things differently.

What mistakes have we made? First, let us move beyond judgment; we have enough guilt and shame. We are coming out of a dark time on the planet, so

Allow me to address some of the concerns and questions regarding 2012. While I am not an expert on the subject, I have been so fascinated – and to be honest, sometimes frightened – about what is happening on planet Earth that I have read and researched, as well as meditated and prayed for clarity, asking how I can be of service. I have given many talks about 2012 and the prophesies, and here I would like to reflect on some of the most common questions I hear.

TWO LUNCHTIME

MEETINGS EVERY

One of the fondest of childhood memories may be your mother handing you warm cookies. When you bite into the cookies, there’s a moment when you close your eyes and feel the loving energy. Baking, just like reiki, has a meditative flow. The tactile qualities of both allow you to open your heart to the present moment. As a fourth-generation baker, my family instilled the passion and energy of food in me. Along with baking, I have always had a vivid connection to the life force that surrounds us. When I was four years old, we discovered that I could see auras. This led me along many different paths of energy healing. It

wasn’t until reiki came into my life that I felt at peace with my energy work. I have been a reiki master teacher since 2005. At that time, I believed that I needed to leave baking behind. I soon realized that both reiki and baking nourish my soul. The long hours and stressful pace of food service is a fertile ground for you to not love yourself. Baking has always been a loving meditation for me. Incorporating reiki into my baking, the meditation has become a sacred ritual. There is a French culinary term “mise

en place” which means “put in place.” It’s about the mindfulness of organizing your ingredients before you bake. In reiki, you have methods of clearing your space and yourself before a healing session. Connecting to these techniques allows your energy to be focused and flow calmly and deliberately. I start my baking with establishing a loving intention. Walking around the room, I send the reiki symbols to all the equipment. While measuring the ingredients, I focus on the reiki principle: Just for today, be grateful. Rolling out the dough for cinnamon rolls, I press my hands into the dough and visualize the smiles of people as they enjoy the pastries. As I am kneading the wheat bread, I chant the reiki symbols into the dough. Watching the bread rise shifts you away from ego and into the now. There are other aspects of everyday life that have changed since I brought in

reiki. As I am putting food away, I send reiki and gratitude to each item. When I arrive at the grocery store while still in my car, I take three deep breaths and ask for spiritual guidance to buy what is for my highest good. Since I started doing this, I have saved money. I can feel whether it’s just an impulse buy or something that truly flows with my energy. Picking up products, I use reiki just like muscle testing. I hold the item in my hand and ask if it’s in the perfect vibration with me. Even when at the checkout line, I use the wait time as a chance to meditate. Every year, I plant vegetables and fruit in my garden to use for my baking. I send reiki to the soil, seeds, and water and send love to them everyday. Nurturing this produce from the beginning makes you realize how much we are affected by what we eat. Many restaurants and bakeries treat food like just a product. Before leaving home, I send the reiki symbols to the restaurant for the highest good. When ordering, I ask my spirit guides for help. As the dish is placed in front of me, I close my eyes and breath in the aroma. Rubbing the palms of my hands together to activate the chakra point, I hold my hand over the plate and send the reiki power symbol to the food. From the first bite, you can feel the flow of energy.

BAKING WITH L❤VE

So I encourage everyone to relax and open their mind to the wonderfulworld of baking. Try infusing your baking with loving energy. Everybody will wonder what is the secret ingredient!

Eating healthy, natural foods are vital for boosting our life force energy. Although having occasional treats made with quality ingredients and loving intentions reminds us to get our judgments out of the way and savor every bite. Julia Child once said, “While we are here on earth, we should not only be nourished by our food, we should also enjoy the infinite pleasures of the table – as well as enjoying the cooking of what goes upon it.”

Women: Live The Best Year of Your Life, Starting Now

By Krysta Gibson

Sara Avant Stover uses the seasons of the year to create a user-friendly program for women in her book The Way of the Happy Woman – Living the Best Year of Your Life (New World Library, June 2011). “The book is the culmination of last 12 years of my life. I had the early stages of cervical cancer and went on my own healing journey as a woman to figure out what it means to be a woman in the world today. I learned how to honor my body so I am not sick and so I can navigate in the world and not be a recluse. “I learned that the more I am in sync with the seasons of the year instead of living at the same pace all year long, the more my body found its own rhythm. I found that the more I paid attention to the moon cycles and lived my life in sync with the moon, the fewer issues I had related to my female organs. “The process I lead women through in my book is an individual journey for each woman while also being a road map. I lay out general guidelines for how to connect with one’s own journey. It is living from the inside out, slowing down, and simplifying amidst the complexities of modern life. It means tuning into the cycles of our own bodies, hearts, and lives as well as the cycles of nature which I feel is the foundation for a woman’s health and happiness.” Sara brings a variety of traditions to her work: yoga, Buddhist meditation, Taoism, traditional Chinese medicine, and Ayurveda. She manages to blend all of this and much more into a program of living from the inside out, a program that a modern woman can implement without just adding more to her to-do list. “My intention is to meet people where they are and not to make spiritual or wellness practices be another stressor. I have been there before. I would tell myself that to be a good yogi, I have to meditate three or four hours a day and it drove me crazy. I work with women at all stages of their journey. Any woman can come to this and embrace as

much or as little as she wants. Just picking up one thing and committing to it can change their lives. Some women have already been doing these practices and are ready to go deeper. There is no judgment about where you are, you just want to connect deeper and get to know more of who you are.”

Sara will be in the Seattle area in June: Thursday, June 16, Third Place Books, 17171 Bothell Way N.E., Lake Forest Park, Wash., 7 p.m.; Friday, June 17, 8 Limbs Yoga, 500 E. Pike Street, Capitol Hill, Wash., 7:15 p.m. More information can be found at her website, www.thewayofthehappywoman.com. Celebrate Summer! From The Way of the Happy Woman, reprinted with permission from New World Library

Here are some fun ways to celebrate summer that you can incorporate into your days: • Keep an eye out for animals and insects. Often they come into our lives to deliver a message. Take note of what you come across, and then research what they could mean for you. Trust synchronicities. • Stargaze. The Australian Aborigines believe that we need to look at the stars more and bring their magic in through our bodies, down into our feet, and into the earth, which needs the medicine of starlight. • Go berry picking, or gather flowers for your home. • Walk barefoot on the grass, soil or sand as much as you can. • Meditate on the songs of birds during your morning meditation, journaling, or walk. • Sit on the porch during a thunderstorm and smell the rain. • Take your art projects outside: paint rocks, watercolor, fingerpaint.• Go camping (even if it’s just sleeping in your backyard for a night). • Get at least 20 minutes a day of direct sunlight outside, even when you are working inside.

Angels of Atlantis Oracle CardsBy Stewart PearceFindhorn Press

Stewart Pearce, who is also the author of The Alchemy of Voice, explains that he met the twelve archangels of Atlantis during the Harmonic Convergence of August 1987 and has worked with them ever since. This deck has 44 cards that he says is the sacred master number of Atlantis and is the master code and gateway to spiritual purity. Each of the cards represents the archangels as orbs. This is the way the author has experienced them, even before the days of digital photography which has orbs showing up frequently. Each of the archangels has four cards that hold different meanings such as: beginnings, faith, courage, grace, etc. There is a small booklet that explains the meanings of the various cards and helps the user apply the information to their lives. This is a beautiful deck with rich colors, beautiful drawings, and deep meanings. It will be a treasured addition to your path. (This month we will hold a drawing to give away two of these decks, provided by the publisher, to people on our e-mail list. If you are not a member of our list, join at www.newspiritjournal.com.).

Edgar SpeaksInner Transformation: Journey to 2012 and Earth ChangesBy Bente HansenIndigo Heart Publishing

Edgar Speaks is a great ride and many people who read New Spirit Journal know the author since she lived and worked in the Northwest for several years before moving to the East Coast. Bente has channeled various light beings for over 10 years. About 15 months ago, her energy merged with that of Edgar Cayce and she began channeling him. This book details the story of how this happened, as well as what it has meant to her personally and in her career as a healer and counselor. The energy transmitted through the book is a high one and is easily felt from the moment you begin to read it. There is astute information about the upcoming earth changes, 2012, and many facets of living consciously in today’s world. There is

This is a timely book and you will discover great value here even if you haven’t had a prior interest in or knowledge of Edgar Cayce. Whispers from EternityBy Paramhansa YoganandaEdited by Nayaswami KriyanandaCrystal Clarity Publishers

This is one of my all-time favorite books. Paramhansa Yogananda, who wrote the classic Autobiography of a Yogi, shares his inspiring poem-prayers as well as giving us advice about how to pray. Instead of begging, he says, we need to demand and explains why this is so. By following his advice, we can reach new heights in our understanding of God-Spirit as well as in our relationship to divinity. There are prayers for everything from greeting the dawn and starting our day to prayers for wisdom, prosperity, balance, health, and relationships. This edition has been edited by one of Yogananda’s disciples, Nayaswami Kriyananda, so that the words flow a bit better while still remaining true to the content of the original 1949 edition. If you’ve been looking for a prayer book or one that might inspire you to higher thoughts, feelings, and actions, this is the one for you. It was written for people of all religions and beliefs and is dedicated to the “soul-temples of Christians, Moslems, Buddhists, Hebrews, Hindus, and others....” This is a book for everyone, including you.

Hawk show for over 25 years. And Frank Domenico Cipriani is an international author and columnist who has worked presenting workshops with Little Hawk for the past 10 years. What this means is that, in this book, we are the recipients of a tremendous storehouse of story telling wisdom. Whether you want to tell stories to your children, grandchildren, friends, or to large audiences, this book will provide you with great teaching and ideas in an unusual and practical way.

Meditation for the Love of ItEnjoying Your Own Deepest ExperienceBy Sally KemptonSounds True

Written by someone who has spent over 40 years practicing, studying, and teaching meditation and spiritual philosophy, this

book is a must-read for anyone who has been meditating or who wants to begin a meditation practice. There’s no issue left untouched and you will be taken on a journey that will help you understand what’s involved in a meditation practice, what you can expect to do and to experience, and you’re even given a three-week “breakthrough program” that will support you in beginning or deepening your meditation practice. Many well-known meditation teachers from various traditions rave about this book and they are right to do so. If you feel pulled to this time-honored spiritual practice, Meditation for the Love of It belongs in your life.

Natural AbundanceRalph Waldo Emerson’s Guide to ProsperityEdited by Ruth L. MillerBeyond Words/Atria Books

This book is part of the Library of Hidden Knowledge Series. Rev. Ruth L. Miller, Ph.D. has been translating the works of some of the world’s greatest thinkers into language more conducive to today’s world. After working with the Science of Getting Rich and the Master Key System, she now turned her attention to Emerson. Miller went through a variety of his essays, found the writings that most address how to live an abundant and fulfilling life, and then translated them so that today’s readers can access the bounty of material that is there. If you enjoy the works of Emerson but sometimes find him difficult to read, this book will support you in understanding and applying some of his richest teachings.

Follow Your Passion, Find Your PowerEverything You Need to Know about the Law of AttractionBy Bob DoyleHampton Roads Publishing

If you saw the movie The Secret, you’ll remember Bob Doyle as one of the teachers

who was featured. As many have noted, although the movie was a great success, it does not tell the whole story. Some people who have tried to follow its teachings have great success while others do not. This has frustrated Bob Doyle and he has written this book to flesh out the rest of the story, to provide some of the missing pieces, so that people have a better understanding of the law of attraction and how to use it consciously. Doyle explains that “..the law of attraction is not simply some kind of ‘tool’ that allows humans to manifest things or create their lives. It is much, much bigger than that.” He explains the concepts of resonance, energetic programs, resistance, patterning, and how to work with them. The book not only gives very specific ways to work with your energy, it also answers many questions people have about this entire topic. This is probably the most comprehensive book I have seen that address this topic. Follow Your Passion is

grounded, practical, and full of information you can use in your daily life.

11:11 Light Sprites WristbandsBy Tony Hanes

When Tony Hanes became aware of the meanings behind 11:11, he decided to do something that would help people remember to tune into this energy. Those who decide to wear these green bracelets promise to tune into the 11:11 energy once a day to help heal the planet, themselves, and others. Proceeds from the sales go to support the production of a tutorial video for children facing disease. The video will inspire, empower, and educate them about self-healing and it will be distributed freely. There is a lot of information about 11:11 and how it relates to 2012 as well as how to use and order these bracelets at www.lightsprites.com. Wearing one of these would certainly help a person stay more tuned in to the energies intended.

“Everyone reading this article has done something they didn’t think they could do. Where did that come from? It came from the storehouse of inner resources we all have within us. We can say, ‘Okay, if this challenge is in my life, it’s here for a reason and that reason is to become more of who I am. What do I want to bring forth? Is it more courage? Is it to open my eyes and bring forth another dimension of life that I haven’t seen before? What is it that this is a call for?’ “That makes life a lot more exciting. And we’re not victims. It can be hard to realize that nothing can ever really hurt us. We are immortal.” Meditation and prayer have and do play a large part in Dr. King’s work and life view. “The reason I believe life is creative and expansive

is because it comes from spirit that way. We limit it when we say ‘No, that can’t happen or that isn’t so.’ Meditation allows us to let go of the observable world which we usually think of as the real world. It isn’t. The real world is the world of energy within us. “We live in a world that is so outwardly directed that we forget the richness of our lives doesn’t come from the outside. It isn’t money that makes our lives rich. I know a lot of people with money who are not very happy. I know a lot of poor people who aren’t happy either. “Meditation allows us to pay attention to our inner world and that is where our cellular wisdom can guide us. It is preverbal and it lets you know what’s aligned to your truth by your inner response to something. “Let’s say you’re considering a job and you need the money but you’re

not sure if it’s right for you. You are fearful there won’t be another one if you don’t take. So you sit there and see it. Imagine. Pay attention to your inner response. Is it ‘I like doing this it allows me to be who I am?’ That is an indication it is a great vehicle for you. If you get internal crunching that isn’t right then it is not likely you’ll be successful in that job. It’s by paying attention to our inner world that we get these answers and this is what meditation allows us to do.”

I am “an instrument of your peace...” Claim it now. I am God’s light, higher source, higher self. It doesn’t matter what I call this creative force; it still shines upon and within us all. The point is that if I am to grow from my small self into the fullness of my unique gifts, then I must let go of the old suffering-self story. If I choose to believe in the energy of suffering, then I am living at the same vibration as suffering. To transcend suffering I must move to a higher vibration and it takes becoming still to find it. Surrendering to the

“God-within,” I find she who knows the formula in and for me. Once still, I discover my holy truth: I remember that all systems are in God’s great perfection. “I am one with God. I am one with all life.” See me now go about my day remembering; “There is nothing my holiness cannot do.” God is with me, now and always. From the place of our holy truth we can leave our smallness behind and take on the mantle of who we really are. The need is great to step up to our higher self. It is there we find the seed of our great works. However, by staying in that

place of un-empowerment we are enabling the world conditions to prevail. If we desire a change to a more peaceful and loving environment then it is time to choose to be an agent of change. Claiming our highest good and standing in that truth is a necessity. If God made the world as many claim, then we are made of and by God and we need to act like it. Acting like it entails claiming our oneness with God and all life. We must first be willing to give over control and to become empty of self to allow the creative force to infill us. This means that each day we set aside time for quiet listening. An action is then required on the direction we are given rather than thinking we are waiting for God to do it for us. We are the hands of God. We are the feet of God. If we believe that there is only one God we cannot deny that we are part of that oneness, for God

cannot make something that is not God’s. I am not speaking of some “judge in the sky,” who needs to constantly assess whether something it made is right or wrong, good or bad. We are all made of the same God ingredients. How we express these ingredients is the part we need to stake claim to. Believing God made the world through evolution or by magic is not important. Every culture that has ever lived has their creation stories. The important piece is we need to step up to our role as a creation of God and begin to allow for the deep peace that lives at the core of all creation. The deep

many “mistakes” have been made. In yoga and Buddhism, ignorance of our essential nature causes all downstream suffering: fear, attachment, aversion, and identification with ego and form. Another huge problem has been our disconnect: from our bodies, from our feelings, from the divine, and from the earth itself. When we lose contact with the earth, we lose contact with the divine, which speaks to us most clearly through nature. We also lose access to the land, vital nutrition, exercise, and so much more. The dark forces have known that separating peoples from their land makes them more vulnerable and more easily controlled and manipulated. Lastly, we have suppressed the crucial wisdom and intuitive nature of the feminine, and this must and will change.

What can we do to handle the shift?

Begin to nurture your feminine side, your intuition, your heart. Be more than do, or combine the two into a divine doing or sacred activism. Grow a garden, which not only connects you with Mother Earth and the divine, but also reduces fear and prepares you for any interruptions in food supply. It is also important to clean up any emotional backlog. Energetically, turn up your internal, energetic dimmer switch from fear, worry, and angst, to joy, positivity, and

celebration. Do not buy into the drama; be in this world but not of it, attached to nothing. Turn off the news and tune into your inner truth. Yes, there will probably be more bumps and some upheaval, for we have gotten out of balance. But this is what we have sought and prayed for: moving away from an age of war and material worship to an age of truth and oneness. Thank God. In short, something is happening. And it’s all good, albeit with some physical discomfort, as in any change on earth. Our very DNA is apparently changing, as we shift from 3D to 4D to 5th dimension. The indigo or psychic children are here to help us transition, although many of them are overwhelmed when they enter the 3D land of form at this time of tumultuous transition. We are between two worlds, and we are the ones deciding and changing our world with every thought, word, and action. Whatever you would like to see occur on earth, take a deep breath, and make it happen.

Soul Musings: The Route to Peace peace within is our eternal essence. Our fears are keeping our little self-egos in power and negating the presence of who we really are. When we live in fear, we are truly embedded with our egos. Knowing that we breed fear by living in the past and the what-ifs of the future, let’s re-create the building blocks of peace by living in the now. Every time you catch yourself building emotion around something fearful from the past or that you project into the future, stop, breathe, and ask yourself if anything is truly wrong in this moment. The time is now to bring our inner peace to light. The universe is calling us forth with every quake and tidal wave, for it can no longer

contain the density of such strong vibrations of fear. What are we waiting for? Is it not peace that can heal the troubles of our world? St. Francis Prayer: “Make me an instrument...” Unity prayer: “I am one with God. I am one with all life.” Course in Miracles: “There is nothing my holiness cannot do.”

It is true our egos like to feed on strife and suffering, yet how much suffering need we allow before we say stop? How much pain does it take? Living the justice tale of an “eye for an eye” has not brought us closer to a more loving and peaceful universe.

Alzheimer’s Disease is one of the most feared diseases affecting advanced civilization. The earliest symptom of AD is loss of recent memory. David Perlmutter, MD, states that free radical damage underlies all degenerative conditions of the brain including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, MS and generic brain aging. Many people with high exposure to aluminum and mercury are more at risk for AD because metals increase the production of free radicals, which damage the myelin sheath and then there is an inflammatory reaction to this injury. Pesticide exposure has been associated with Parkinson’s disease and pesticides target the mitochondria. Mitochondrial impairment is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases. Chronic, long-lasting distress can overcome the body’s natural system for dealing with stress. The hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) is the communication system that deals with stress. When there is a threat, then the HPA signals the release of adrenaline and cortisol which provides quick energy to the extremities, increases heart rate and we move into fight or flight. When there is chronic stress, then the adrenals do not receive the signal to stop producing stress hormones. The situation which may occur over time is free radical damage in the neurons of the hippocampus (area of the brain that consolidates immediate thoughts into memory). This affects learning and memory. If the stress continues, then adrenal functioning could be impaired. Oftentimes chronic stress is related to toxic emotions, reinforced by thought processes. If this process triggers

autobiographical memory, then the effect gets stronger. As emotion increases, attention becomes more focused on the state, and an emotional loop ensues. The consequence is the development of a neural network in the brain. I often see this process when people worry about finances and survival. Other chronic stress may be the body dealing with environmental toxin exposure. What can I do to protect my brain from stress? Taking care of the brain is an integration of tools that can be used on a mind, body, and spiritual level. Neurogenesis is the idea that the brain can grow new neurons and this occurs throughout the lifespan. Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a protein that plays a role in both creating and protecting neurons. The gene that turns on BDNF is activated by physical exercise, intellectual stimulation, DHA, and caloric reduction. Our culture has embraced the notion of word puzzles, Sudoku, learning something new, and reading to exercise the brain. Aerobic exercise for 30 minutes a day may both reduce stress and support the brain. When I think about caloric reduction, eliminating sugar from the daily diet seems like a great place to start, followed by increasing vegetables, fruits, and limiting starches. I also think it is essential to eliminate food sensitivities from the diet. DHA or docosahexaenoic acid is a component of omega-3 fatty acids. DHA is a building block for the membranes that surround brain cells. It is involved in the transmission of information from one neuron to the next and is a regulator of inflammation. DHA is also helpful in depression, ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder, and the mood disorder spectrum.

Neuroplasticity is the ability to create new neural networks. Through focused attention, brain connections are made and memory is stored. When neural networks are not used, the brain stops using these networks. Consequently, a disciplined change in attention can promote positive states of mind and removing attention from negative thinking can interrupt these networks. I have found that ETT (Emotional Transformation

Therapy) using light and color can help each individual identify beliefs and interrupt the neural network, creating space for a change of state and a new self chosen way of thinking. Meditation on a regular basis calms the mind. According to Michael Newberg, MD, meditation enhances blood flow to the anterior cingulate, which mediates communication between the amygdala (fear and survival response) and the prefrontal cortex (initiative, reasoning). The anterior cingulate mediates empathy, compassion and the ability to regulate emotions. What is the Nrf2 pathway? Nrf2 is a specific protein in the nucleus of a cell that is activated when the body experiences high oxidative stress. The Nrf2 is a built-in system that enables us to deal with high levels of toxins, free radicals, and inflammation in our bodies and environment. The Nrf2 is activated by the oxidation of the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. Thus, it is important to supplement with fish oil.

The brain’s most important antioxidant is glutathione. The mitochondria depend on glutathione. Activation of the Nrf2 pathway generates glutathione on a cellular level. Phytonutrients which activate the Nrf2 pathway include curcumin, green tea, pterostilbene(found in blueberries), and sulforaphane (found in broccoli). Supplements that increase glutathione include N-Acetylcysteine and alpha lipoic acid. Some other supplements recommended for the brain include Huperzine A from Huperzia serrata, a Chinese herb has been found to improve memory. Acetyl-L-Carnitine has shown to be effective in cognition. Ginkgo biloba normalizes acetylcholine receptors in the brain and enhances oxygen by improving blood flow. Creating balance in the brain has its foundation in lifestyle, supported by some plants which have been used for thousands of years. Perhaps the evolution of brain and consciousness walk hand in hand as we develop the discipline to calm our mind and value the body as the temple of the soul. See your healthcare provider to support you in creating a brain support program. The hardest thing anyone has to do in life is let go of the things that really get to them. Some people often even balk at the word forgiveness and prefer the term acceptance; you cannot come to acceptance until you have found forgiveness. Letting go is very challenging as it requires you discover your inner humility. It is easy to judge others and self; it is hard to accept that you are not in charge. If you want to let go of what is holding you back in life then you must be willing to forgive everyone and everything that holds sway over your emotional body. Yes this is a big job, but also one that is very important and rewarding. To begin letting go, you must first realize the need for it. When we carry unresolved

emotions inside of us, then we fill ourselves with the things of the past that no longer serve a good purpose in our life. Unresolved emotions can eat away at the goodness in life and even consume us. Letting go becomes an art as well as a daily practice. In order to let go you have to choose the items you wish to be rid of and then write them down. For instance you are tired of feeling like a victim in life. In order to let go you must forgive yourself for accepting this feeling as reality and then you can remember the people and instances in life that have made you feel this way. Now you can forgive the others and the circumstances that have held you in place with this outworn belief. It is the same with guilt and shame. I forgive myself for believing that I must dwell in guilt and I release the need within me that holds this belief. I forgive others who have instilled this feeling and belief within me and I release and let go of my need to blame them. I now accept myself to be guilt free and open myself to a new understanding of

beauty and light within. I forgive myself for feeling ashamed and release the need to feel shame in a detrimental manner any longer. I forgive all others who have promoted this feeling within me and I release the need to blame them. I accept myself as the wonderful human that I am and I free myself of the need to hold myself in shame any longer. Let it be so. Let it be so. Let it be so. By saying these types of things aloud, you emanate the energy and truth necessary for the release work to take hold. You may need to say them over and over at first but that is fine. Repetition will help you with this process. Another example of letting go is forgiveness of mother and father as well as childhood issues: I forgive my mother for being the human that she is and I release my need for her to be different. I let go of my feelings around my mother as I free her and myself from the past. I honor the life that my mother gave me and I honor the life that I am. I let her go, I let her go, I let her go. I release my need to hold onto the past emotions involving my mom and I set her and myself free. I choose to be of love and free to be myself.

Now use the same exercise for father. Here is a childhood exercise. See yourself walking down a road in the country. Soon you will hear some children laughing and playing in the distance. As you approach these sounds, you will find yourself as a child here. Convince your child part to walk with you on this journey. Let your child part know how excited you are to reconnect. As you proceed, you will encounter others in your life whom you need to address. You and the child have the opportunity here to make peace and forgive yourselves and others while you take this walk. Take your time. You did not get where you are overnight; healing the past will take time and love. Give yourself permission to be the best human being that you can be. Life is a special place and you are a special being. We are no more than the sum total of our parts. When dealing with the emotions and the past we can find ourselves fragmented. All of the emotions sometimes take on a life of their own. This is okay and you must not let it deter you. Your spirit is strong and you deserve to find peace and love. Keep at the work inside and out that promotes these things and you find healing and solace. All things worth attaining are worth working at.

In our lives, when we have an issue with a person, situation, idea, memory that repeatedly raises negative emotions within us, it acts as a flag, which holds the standard we are evolving into. This often appears in an exaggerated way in order to get our attention. What is it about golf that some people find so stimulating? Why does the act of hitting a little ball with a stick generate so much excitement? In golf, as in archery and mountain climbing, the primary competition is with one’s self. True, other players on the field spark one’s desire to improve, to stretch one’s self, but the real challenge lies in the quest for individual growth. And it is common that those who participate in these types of activities sincerely applaud each other’s achievements. The focus on personal expansion of these sports provides a wonderful metaphor for the process of conscious evolution. In golf, the goal is to sink a little white ball into a small hole in the ground. The flag marks the hole and provides a standard for the goal, allowing the golfer to see what she or he is aiming for. The dictionary defines a standard as an acknowledged basis for comparing or measuring. Metaphorically, the flag marks the other end of a focused thought. Once the golfer gets a bead on the flag, she or he turns all their attention to the ball, and to the alignment of themselves with it, adjusting the stance, measuring the angle, loosening the grip, and sensing the elements of wind, moisture and time of day. In this mode, the player never takes their eyes off the ball. In our lives, when we have an issue with a person, situation, idea, memory that repeatedly raises negative emotions

within us, it acts as a flag, which holds the standard we are evolving into. This often appears in an exaggerated way in order to get our attention. A quality such as personal power, courage, confidence, trust in our inner guidance, allowing others to be who they are, unconditional love, could be the target we are aiming for. When we take our eyes off of that which provokes a negative reaction and focus on our alignment, we begin to recognize the greater ideal we would like to become. Imagine yourself as a golfer and the flag as an irritating comment you just heard for the nth time from someone, motioning you toward your personal standard. As you turn your focus to yourself, to your own ball, your attitude is your stance, your thoughts are your grip, the elements are the influences you choose to allow into your awareness a that moment. Find the harmony with your greater self before you act, speak, or react. Feel your resolve, your strength, your allowing of others to ask their own questions and find their own answers, know the truth of your worthiness, and align with your courage, confidence and love, then... swing! As your ball sails toward a hole in one, observe how the flag disappears, just as that which you always found so irritating has dissolved. The next time you find yourself reacting in a habitual way with anger, fear, resentment, jealously, guilt, ask yourself: What might this experience be inviting me to look at? What quality am I wanting to embrace in myself? With some attention and a bit of practice, you can embody your ideal. And after a while, you may find you have developed an appreciation for that person, memory, or experience that held the standard for your growth for so long.
