And I’m going to be wearing a special pair of HOT shoes in her honor. There’s always a reason for achieving, a reason we strive a little harder, a reason we smile a little more when we reach a goal. I have so many reasons this year to celebrate. And what I want to point out is that it took every single one of you, every single one to get where we are this year. Thank you. I have a grateful heart. Dear Scintillating Superstars, The IT National Area was birthed 10 days early, right on schedule. I was savoring the moment, but hanging over me was the realization that the Scintillating Superstars were ever so close to the $800,000 Circle of Excellence. I couldn’t decide if I was willing to rally the troops, or if I should sit back and savor the national victory. I sent out an e-mail asking if 50 of our almost 200 unit members might be willing to do a little extra. Almost immediately I received a reply from Deb Bussey who’s been in my unit 19 years. At one time she’d been a red jacket, and one of her team members was Cynthia Johnson who was with me for 17 years. The two of them were always a fashion statement, and at every event, Cynthia would have a new pair of hot shoes. She loved glamour and would always put her clients on PCP, so they could see what was new. She always said that’s why she had such a great reorder business. We didn’t see each other often, but stayed in touch, and this fall Cynthia had a reoccurrence of the cancer she’d battled two times before. She lost that battle this spring. During my last visit, Cynthia wasn’t able to talk, but Linda Zingre and I talked to her, and as we looked around her bedroom, we noticed an atomizer she’s earned from MK 15 years ago. Her husband Randall had put his favorite glamour shot photo of Cynthia on her bedstand, so all the visitors would remember her as he did. The dining room table was covered with pictures, and interspersed were photos of Cynthia at MK events. Her mom greeted me at the door like a long lost friend, and I hadn’t seen her in 10 years. Her mom talked and talked about how much MK meant to Cynthia. I was touched by how meaningful MK was to her life even though her active participation was small. I realize I don’t always know the impact MK has.

SCINTILLATING

SUPERSTARS

Let’s get back to the e-mail from Deb Bussey,

Cynthia’s recruiter. Here’s what she replied:

I am so proud of the Scintillating Superstars and

our great leader. You are a true Superstar and you

definitely are IT! I am proud to be one of your "chosen"

ones. Even though MK hasn't been front and center for

some time now in my life, I will always have MK running

through my veins. I will do a $200 for me and a $200 for

Cynthia by the end of the month.

How I wish I could see you in person on that

stage! I will look soooo forward to pictures and hopefully

a video of the moment you are introduced as Mary Kay's

newest National Sales Director! Cynthia is looking down

on our unit and grinning from ear to ear!

With Love and so much pride, Deb

When I finished reading

Deb’s offer, I decided that we

were going to finish that unit

club. I knew if Deb and

Cynthia would be helping,

there’d be at least 48 others

who would join in. And there

were. We needed $30,000

wholesale and we did

$36,000. We added one last

victory to this audacious year.

Did I mention that Cynthia

always loved to get dressed

up and come to the Black &

White Ball? This year, when

we’re introduced as a new

National Area, and when the Scintillating Superstars are

recognized as the #1 UNIT that did $800,000, I’ll be

thinking of Cynthia and how proud she’d be. And I’m

going to be wearing a special pair of HOT shoes in her

honor.

There’s always a reason for achieving, a reason

we strive a little harder, a reason we smile a little more

when we reach a goal. I have so many reasons this year

to celebrate. And what I want to point out is that it

took every single one of you, every single one to get

where we are this year. Thank you. I have a grateful

heart.

Dear Scintillating Superstars,

The IT National Area was birthed 10 days early,

right on schedule. I was savoring the moment, but

hanging over me was the realization that the Scintillating

Superstars were ever so close to the $800,000 Circle of

Excellence. I couldn’t decide if I was willing to rally the

troops, or if I should sit back and savor the national

victory. I sent out an e-mail asking if 50 of our almost 200

unit members might be willing to do a little extra.

Almost immediately I received a reply from Deb

Bussey who’s been in my unit 19 years. At one time she’d

been a red jacket, and one of her team members was

Cynthia Johnson who was with me for 17 years. The two

of them were always a fashion statement, and at every

event, Cynthia would have a new pair of hot shoes. She

loved glamour and would always put her clients on PCP,

so they could see what

was new. She always said

that’s why she had such a

great reorder business.

We didn’t see each other

often, but stayed in

touch, and this fall

Cynthia had a

reoccurrence of the

cancer she’d battled two

times before. She lost

that battle this spring.

During my last

visit, Cynthia wasn’t able

to talk, but Linda Zingre

and I talked to her, and

as we looked around her

bedroom, we noticed an atomizer she’s earned from MK

15 years ago. Her husband Randall had put his favorite

glamour shot photo of Cynthia on her bedstand, so all

the visitors would remember her as he did. The dining

room table was covered with pictures, and interspersed

were photos of Cynthia at MK events. Her mom greeted

me at the door like a long lost friend, and I hadn’t seen

her in 10 years. Her mom talked and talked about how

much MK meant to Cynthia. I was touched by how

meaningful MK was to her life even though her active

participation was small. I realize I don’t always know the

impact MK has.

Each month I will feature a different Future Martin Area Director in our newsletter.

Directors have all gone through many of the same issues that you have or may go through in your life and career.

I know if she can… YOU can. I hope you enjoy our new monthly article.

Director Name: Sarah Sikma

Former Occupation: Speech-Language Pathologist (working part-time)

City/State: Bourbonnais, IL

Joined Mary Kay: 2003

Debuted as a director: 2009

# of months of driving free: 18 months

Highest commission check in one month: $1,657

What was the sequence of events that brought you into the company? (recruiting layering process) My now husband, boyfriend at the time, introduced me to a co-worker’s wife, Elizabeth Kubal, who was a beauty consultant. I really tried Mary Kay when Elizabeth did a trial-run class for my sister's wedding. I fell in love with the skin care and their eyeliner (I believe it was "Sable" eyeliner). Elizabeth and I became great friends over the next year, but I was never a hostess for a class because she never really asked. I did see her going to different Mary Kay events, and she would always come back and share what a great time she had with her Mary Kay girlfriends. Even though she didn't "officially" talk to me about the opportunity, she was layering me for about a year and didn't even realize it. I was watching and listening!

Why did you join? I was working on my Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and I was also working a part-time job. During that time, I decided that I wanted a little extra spending money to do fun things with my friends. One night, Elizabeth and I had been watching one of our favorite bands, and we were back in our hotel room, and I said, "I think I'm ready to do this." And she said, "Do what?" She had no idea that I was even interested in the business. Initially I only started the business to make a little extra spending money, and I knew I had enough sisters, cousins, aunts, and other family members that loved the product too.

Why did you want to become a director? I wanted to become a director to have different choices for my family and to touch the lives of more women. I knew that I wanted to lead other women to their potential. Becoming a sales director would give me that platform to work from. I also knew that it would give other women permission to become sales directors. If I could do it, they could do it! We all could help Jeanie finish her National Area!!

THIS MONTH’S ISSUE OF:

IF SHE CAN, I CAN!

Page 11: June 2010 Newsletter

Page 11

Has there been a dark season? There have been many transitions in my business over the past several years. The biggest being moving from a consultant to a sales director. I wouldn't call it a dark season, more of an obstacle I had to overcome. When I think of a "dark season", it makes me think about my personal activity in the business. There have been quite a few "dark seasons", but really it was LACK of personal business. Booking personal appointmenets and working with other women always pulls me out of a dark season.

What is the one thing that was difficult for you or you were afraid of in this business? I loved helping people look great and I loved our product because it sold itself. The one part of the business that I was afraid of for the longest time was sharing the business with others. I thought that I was being too pushy by sharing the opportunity. This couldn't be farther from the truth. I was being selfish by not sharing my wonderful job. I will always remember National Sales Director, Glinda McQuire say, "You have 2 jobs in Mary Kay - 1.) To show the product, and 2.) To share the opportunity." I will never forget that it’s OUR JOB to share this business. Knowing that has helped me overcome that fear. I loved helping people look great and I loved our product because it sold itself. The one part of the business that I was afraid of for the longest time was sharing the business with others. I thought that I was being too pushy by sharing the opportunity. Which couldn't be farther from the truth. I was being selfish by not sharing my wonderful job.

During what time period did you have the greatest growth of income and what was the growth? I went to Seminar 2008 and caught the dream of earning a FREE MK car. In the fall of 2008, I cut back on my hours working as a Speech-Pathologist in the schools. I began to hold an average of 2 appointments per week and after about 2 months of those consistent efforts, I was on target for my Pontiac G6. My team and I finished qualification for the G6 in December 2008. From the momentum of earning a car, I submitted for DIQ and then debuted as a Sales Director June 2009.

What do you attribute the growth? I would absolutely attribute the growth to finding my purpose and WORKING toward it. Not that I didn't always want a FREE car, but I wasn't wiling to work for it before this time. I became pregnant in my 1st month of car qualification, and I knew we needed a new car for the baby and I didn't want to have to buy one. Working my personal business and holding appointments was the key to the growth driven by my purpose. My purpose changed and I wanted to have more impact on the lives of women around me. I continued to work to become the #12 sales director in the Future Martin National Area.

What advice would you give a consultant who wants to be a Director? Find what you are truly passionate about and CONSISTENTLY work your business to achieve that goal. That means Mary Kay IPA activity every day.

SHARE you goal with EVERYONE!!! Constantly ask questions to others who have become directors before you - we are here to help!
