    New Name for Newsletter

You may have noticed that thenewsletter now has a name,Seattle Spin. It was inspiredby the old SPIN magazinewhile I was riding a subway inNYC. Let me know if you loveit, hate it or didnt even notice.

I appreciate your feedback.Email: [email protected]

    Open Board Positions

    The Seattle Bicycle Club is

currently seeking people toserve on their Board ofDirectors. If you would liketo get involved with theclub, however small, pleaselet our President, GarryKehr, know. Email:

    [email protected]

    Bicycle Alliance has newExecutive Director

The Bicycle Alliance ofWashington is pleased toannounce the selection ofGordon Black as their newExecutive Director.

Gordon has a long associationwith the Bicycle Alliance. Hehas been a strong advocatefor improving bike access onthe Washington State Ferriesand was a co-founder ofSqueaky Wheels, thesuccessful bike advocacygroup on Bainbridge Island.

Gordon is very excited aboutbeing selected as the new EDand considers it his dream job.

Board and Staff in welcomingGordon to our fold!

    Cycling on MercerIsland

The SBC Board was recentlynotified by the Police Sergeantof Mercer Island of someupcoming procedural changesto help improve therelationship between bicyclesand cars on the island.

Sergeant Davenport will beissuing a press releaseregarding a planned increasein contacts, education andenforcement of traffic laws asthey pertain to bicycles, aswell as how cars interact withbicycles. The most commonviolations they see on MercerIsland are bicycles notstopping for stop signs andvehicles passing bicyclesunsafely.

Mercer Island is a great placeto ride, but please keep inmind that, though the sceneryis great and the hills andcurves are fun, you still needto ride with respect for thelaws of the road. Similarly, ifyou experience anyexcessively obnoxiousbehavior from cars, feel freeto report it to the police.

    New Activities Website

(from email received)We want to help you promote

your rides! So just this week

    we launched a new

    community based websitecalled NWActivities.com.

What makes this site sounique is first its totally free topost an event, browse forevents or subscribe to benotified via email when anevent is posted. Most activitycalendars give you a laundrylist of activities over a hugegeographic area and you haveto sort through what you like

AND what is close enough. With our site, you can browseby county or by activity typewhich narrows the resultsdown significantly. If you reallywant to get spoon-fed you cansubscribe for free to get anotification of just the activitiesyou want in the only thecounties you want. Now that isa useful email we thinkeveryone would welcome!

    FYI...later will be adding a

feature for recurring activitiese.g. Wednesday Night BikeRide. So for now you need toenter those types of eventsone at a time. We suggestentering them through June.
