Children’s Faith Formation Religious Education is accepting registration for the 2019/2020 school year. Materials were mailed to our families who are currently in attendance. If you are new to the Parish and have a child to enroll, please call the office at 271-4254 or email [email protected] We ask you to support our scholarship fund which benefits our families experiencing financial difficulties. Through your generosity, we are able to give partial scholarship to some needy families. If anyone would like to contribute, please make checks payable to Holy Name of Mary, indicate “scholarship” in the memo section and mail it to: 114 Grand Street to the attention of Religious Education. Thank you! We are beginning our Baby Bottle Drive – identical to last year’s - that raised over $4,000 in support of Expectant Mother Care of NY. This is a group with numerous locations in the NY area, which in the last 34 years has aided almost 150,000 women, pregnant women and children. We offer you the opportunity to take home an empty Baby Bottle and between now and the weekend after Father’s Day put in cash, change or checks payable to Expectant Mother Care to help support their vital work. This is an easy opportunity for you to provide some financial aid to an organization which has helped thousands of frequently desperate women and children in past years and continues to provide life affirming aid.

Holy Name of Mary's Playgroup is looking for help for next school year! We are looking for any adults willing to help run Playgroup next year for the Friday mornings. It's a great way for your little one to play and make friends for years to come, while the adults get to make friends too! You enjoy a huge gym space with a range of toys including fun ride-on outdoor big-wheels, and big-cars. It's super easy to do as well. If you're interested please speak to Jessica Dieckman after mass or Debra Rago at the Parish Office (914) 271-4797 x30. I have been involved with Playgroup now for nine years and have run Playgroup now for two years and have really enjoyed it. We will definitely need some new help next year so please keep it in mind. Also, if anyone has some big-cars or big-wheels to ride on and would like to donate them to Playgroup, please contact us.

Sunday Notes 1 Here now comes my great joy to be with you for this summer, so I thought about what I really want to give you. Hence I am going to give you a part of the real me. I do still vividly remember a time in my life when I thought that I would never ever be happy, I was also jealous about all those around me who seemed to be happy and wished I could be like them. The various careers I ventured through left me feeling empty and wanting that something else that could fill that void, but I could not put my finger on it. And so I thought my happiness may lie in another job, another home, another applause from those around me or a closer relationship with the next girl. This “I’ll be happy when” syndrome went on for many, many years. There were various setbacks, PTSD, and recurring dramas that left me contemplating on how to end my life. I forgot how to smile, I forgot to be polite, I forgot to think about others, I forgot to dream, I forgot to respect and treat others with dignity and I forgot who I really was. There I was with a life that left me stuck. I knew that I was in a dark place and I just didn’t know how to get into the light. I spiraled into anxiety and deep depression and there I knew that this is not the real me, this is not who I am. This is not what I know I can do in the world and for the world. One day I went to hear Fr. Anthony D’mello speak at a seminar. His talks were so easy and appealed to me and touched me to the core. He said that there has to be a part of one’s day devoted only to prayer and meditation. From that day on I dreamt of being a teacher and bringing peace and spiritual enlightenment to those who would be sent to me. The dream that I had was to be a teacher of spirituality, I do not know why, maybe I wished to be admired for my wisdom, maybe I desired to be a leader into something that all people were aspiring to be, maybe that was the road marked out for me by the infinite Intelligence and Source of all beings. I found this a very pleasant study to delve into, it took me away from my addictive behaviors and longings, I was now trying to grasp and understand another road and still I wished it could create a better life for me. It did not, but now my life of darkness was becoming less dim, till I began to experience that the full light was upon me. I discovered no more an addictive longing to get something or be somebody, it was just a feeling of being emptied and a knowing that if I walked along this road I might get somewhere. Here I had reached a plateau and I walked along this plateau for many years. -Fr. Nelson Couto To Be Continued…

Each of us should pray (that is, speak to God and/or to the saints about our hopes, fears, loves, losses, etc.) In prayer we ask for things, give thanks complain, or simply praise and love God

with our minds and hearts. Prayer often helps people when they are hurting. That is why a Funeral Mass is important for the living as well as for the dead. Every Catholic, even if he or she wasn’t much for going to church, deserves a Funeral Mass. Both the living and the dead benefit from every act of worship. You see, the Mass renews the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. It gives divine grace to people who participate and to people for whom we intercede. Masses can be requested for the good of others and can also be offered for people who cannot or do not pray for themselves. That is why having a Mass offered for someone who is sick, for someone’s birthday, anniversary, or as a gift for a friend is a great idea. Mass cards are not just for the dead … they are for the living, too. We can all use the extra grace and blessings.
