On March 18, 2006, the Ludwig’s Inn and Oyster Bar was the location of the Club’s Annual Luncheon. About 23 members gathered at the Inn to enjoy an afternoon with friends. SPRING HIKE Nine members and their dogs met at Daniel Boone Homestead on Sunday, April 2, for a leisurely hike through this scenic and historic area. The weather was ideal and everyone enjoyed seeing signs of the emergence of spring. The day concluded with everyone breaking out their picnic lunches to satiate their appetites, with plenty of four legged moochers to clean up any stray morsels. SPECIALTY SHOW AND SWEEPSTAKES The Club held its 20th Specialty and Sweepstakes on Saturday, May 13, in conjunction with the Chester Valley Kennel Club’s All-breed Show at Ludwig’s Corner, PA. As in the past years, we had our own private ring, parking, and hospitality/grooming tent. The morning started off overcast, with light on and off showers, which gave way to a pleasant day for both dogs and spectators. Mrs. Ellen Gordon, from Bristolville, Ohio, was our Sweepstakes Judge, presiding over an entry of eight puppies and junior dogs. Her choice for Best Puppy was April and Todd Clyde’s Joval Royal Jewel at Longvue, and her choice for Best Junior and Best in Sweeps was Valeria and John Rickard’s Joval Angel’s Kiss. Breeder/Judge Mrs. Mareth Kipp awarded Best of Breed and the Barbara Strebeigh Bowl to Richard Berg and Samantha Curran’s CH Evermay’s High Performance from the 29 Regular Class entries. With the conclusion of judging, everyone gathered at the hospitality tent to partake of a bountiful tailgate spread of food, beverage and our Airedale cake, provided by Ann Kochler and her hospitality committee. Many thanks to everyone who helped make it a great day for the Airedales and Airedalers. Judging Results

BRAGS

From Samantha Curran: We're off to Long Beach, CA tomorrow for the Great Western Terrier shows, [per M. Kipp, “Max has won the breed both days, a Group 2 yesterday and a Group 3 today.”] so here's a brief update on Max: He began his specials career this January, and to date he has 15 All-Breed Best In Shows and 5 Terrier Specialty Best In Shows. Max has won the Regional Specialties he's been entered in this year: Northern California (CATC), ATCMNY, Mid-Jersey, Greater Philadelphia, ATCNE and the ATCI Regional Specialties. He was shown at five shows last year to get his championship, and won two Bests last year. The New England weekend was particularly thrilling as Max was undefeated all weekend, winning the ATCNE Specialty, the ATCA Floating Specialty and the two All-Breed shows, Ladies' Kennel Club and the Framingham District Kennel Club shows. The Best In Show line-up at those shows was pretty daunting, and Max beat the sensational English Springer Spaniel who is currently #1 Dog. Several of Max's "kids" were entered in the New England shows, and two of his daughters were the Sweepstakes winners at the three shows. Susan Kipp's Huntwood's Waltzing Mathilda won the ATCA Floating Specialty Sweeps under Dee Leahy, and Valeria Rickard's Joval Angel's Kiss won the ATCNE Sweepstakes under Sanna Rosell and the Framingham District KC Club's Sweeps under Carol Scott. The litter brother to Waltzing Mathilda, Huntwood's Wildest Performance, was Winners Dog at the ATCA Floater under Rhonda Davis. That was the one day he was shown. Valeria's bitch, Krissi, was also Winners Bitch on Friday at the ATCNE Specialty, finishing her championship with four major wins at Regional Specialties. Valeria can fill you in on more of Krissi's stellar show career!

From Valeria Rickard: Our Krissi, aka CH Joval Angel's Kiss, finished her championship in style. This spring she won at 4 Airedale Terrier Specialties in a row and finished with 4 majors in tough competition. Her first warm-up show was at the Columbia Terrier Association (ATCMW Airedale Specialty) where she was RWB and Best in Sweepstakes. Then she went Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex at Garden State Terrier Association Show. That day she also got Bred-By-Exhibitor Group 1. On Sunday, at the New Jersey Airedale Terrier Specialty, she repeated her performance and won Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex, as well as Best Junior in Sweeps. The following weekend, Krissi got it all: Best in Sweeps, Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex at our Club’s Specialty.

Page 5: Jun 06 ATCGP Newsatcgp.org/Newsletters/ATCGPNewsletter0606.pdf · RWD: Victorianne King’s Ransom owned by Susan Nielsen & Anne Curtis RWB: Inglevalley McKenzi of Glenayr owned by

And lastly, at the New England Airedale Terrier Specialty in Boston, she went Winners bitch, Best of Winners and Best in Sweeps, completing her championship. At all the shows, Krissi was shown by Valeria from the Bred-By-Exhibitor class. Krissi is a direct product of her two winning parents: Max (CH Evermay’s High Performance) and our Raven (CH Joval Angel Fire), who was RWB at Montgomery 2004. Bill and Ann Kochler’s Ch Quantum’s Windview Merry Miss (Gracie) won Best Veteran in Sweeps at the Airedale Terrier Club of Metro Washington Specialty on April 21; the Metropolitan New York Airedale Club Specialty on May 5; and the Mid-Jersey Airedale Club Specialty on May 7. Gracie also went Best of Opposite Sex to Best Veteran at the Framington Area KC Show in Wrentham, MA on June 4. CH Crescent’s Dragon Tales (owned by Charlene Johnson and bred by Karen Coffey-Lefer) won the First Award of Merit at the ATCA National Floater (New England) Richard Eyman is very pleased with Prudence and Mac’s performances in their obedience and agility classes. DELAWARE VALLEY RESCUE This spring and summer seems to be producing a bumper crop of Airedales needing new homes - all over the country. Maybe it's the economy? We have a few new dogs and a couple still waiting: Scudder - age 4? - Stray. Initially very afraid of men. Much better now. Should be an only dog, NO CATS. As a stray, he will not be placed with children. He is impeccably clean and loves to eat - sits for treats and is most happy with his person. FMI re Scudder: Adele - 610-827-7088. Maggie Mae - age 9 - owner died. She is intolerant of other females, but is okay with most males. NOT good with cats. Very loving, although talks back and objects to being combed, especially if you hit a snag. Quiet and cooperative. Loves her belly rubbed. Maggie is happy with Rocky (next profile) and missed him when he went to the vet's. FMI: Joey Fineran – 610-294-8028 <[email protected]> Rocky - age 9 - looks quite well bred, (handsome) breeder unknown. Owner in nursing home (not coming out). Loves toys, kids (but not cats) and is very good with Maggie. FMI: Joey Fineran – 610-294-8028 <[email protected]> Bo - age 13. Bo came from a shelter in 2003 at age 11 and was placed with an older gentleman whose adopted Airedale had died. Unfortunately, last fall the man died in an automobile accident, and Bo came back. A great couple in S. Jersey kindly offered to foster him, fell in love with him and kept him. Again, unfortunately, due to job loss, he is coming back to us this week. Bo is friendly and non-assuming. Only wants to eat and sleep (on the couch). Will probably live out his life at Joey's, unless someone steps up to give this great ol' guy a "spare" sofa! K-K-K-Katie - age 3 (??) - stray from Jackson, NJ area... out of Northern Ocean County Animal Facility. Katie was spayed while she was with me for a month and is now in foster care for more home evaluation. Cindy says Katie is making great progress. FMI: Cindy: 717-225-5421 <[email protected]> Airedale Rescue and Adoption of the Delaware Valley appreciates the financial help given so generously by the members of the Airedale Terrier Club of Greater Philadelphia. If any member is interested in a more hands on way of helping, we are certainly interested in hearing from you. Please contact Cindy Johnstonbaugh (above). Like all rescue groups, we are desperate for foster homes. PENNSYLVANIA FEDERATION OF DOG CLUBS NEWS The PFDC had a special meeting on June l5 to discuss proposed amendments to Title 7 of the Pennsylvania Code, Chapters 21, 23, 25, and 27, which pertain to the Dog Law. The amendments add definitions and set forth more specific and stringent provisions related to kennel requirements and related enforcement. The intent of the amendments is to clarify numerous provisions of the Dog Law and, thereby, increase both the Department’s ability to carry out the intent of the Dog Law and the awareness and understanding among the regulated community and the general public of the Department’s authority and interpretation of the Dog Law.

Page 6: Jun 06 ATCGP Newsatcgp.org/Newsletters/ATCGPNewsletter0606.pdf · RWD: Victorianne King’s Ransom owned by Susan Nielsen & Anne Curtis RWB: Inglevalley McKenzi of Glenayr owned by

According to the PFDC spokesperson, these amendments resulted from “secret” meetings between Governor Rendell and representatives of animal rights groups, who have, apparently, gotten the Governor’s ear, to amend the Dog Law so restrictively as to drive even ethical breeders and kennels out of existence. The Governor also fired the current Commission members, and it is feared they will be replaced by animal rights agenda members. The PFDC wants to be sure that the new Commission will be a balanced one, that will include PFDC representation and urges that member clubs and their members contact the governor to protest his questionable behavior in this matter to date. He may be reached at 225 Main Capital Building, Harrisburg, PA 17120. His telephone is 717-787-2500. For more details on this subject, go to the Federation Web Page at http://www.paonline.com/pfdc.
