TERM 3 ISSUE 15 2017

As the year comes to a close, I will be farewelling

Warren Central School. I have thoroughly enjoyed

being your Principal and will always have fond

memories of my time at Warren. I know it is a great

school and we have achieved so much this year. We

have worked hard as a staff, along with the P&C, to do

everything we can to make our school an excellent

place to educate students. I would like to thank our

dedicated staff, students, supportive families and the

wider community who have worked hard to achieve our

school vision. It has been a particularly busy term with

the evaluation of our current school plan and the

development of a new plan to help continue the great

initiatives we have already started.

With a number of principal vacancies becoming

available, the department is undertaking a unique

application process that allows aspiring school leaders

to apply for multiple vacancies. I have been shortlisted

for assessment and will unfortunately be unable to

attend our presentation night. I am sure it will be a

lovely night and I am sincerely apologetic that I will

miss it. The efforts of each and every student are to be

commended, even those who are not formally

recognised on the night. Please take some time to talk

to your children about their progress this year and

reflect on how far they have come.

School resumes on Tuesday 6 February for Years 1, 2,

3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11 and 12 then years 8, 9 and 10 on

Wednesday 7 February. If your child will be return-

ing, but may not be returning until after the 6 or 7 Feb-

ruary, it would be appreciated if you could inform

the office in writing before the end of the year. It is

important that we have written confirmation of when

students will be returning to be able to include them

when we submit our enrolment numbers to the

department. If your child will not be returning, it is

important that you advise us what school they will be

moving to.

I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday break.

Mr Bryce O’Connor

From the

Relieving

Principal

Jack Taylor, Hamish Callander, Bryce O’Connor,

Lake Keepit Excursion

On 20 November we arrived at Lake Keepit. The long

bus trip was worth it as we all had so much fun! We

completed fun activities from Commando Crawls to

Kayaking to Absailing to a disco.

Goga (GET OUT GET ACTIVE) was super fun each

morning which got us up and exercising. We were very

responsible by cleaning up and washing dishes in the

scullery dinning hall. We’d like to thank Mr Greenwood

(aka Felicia) and Mrs McCormack for a wonderful week

and taking time away from their

families.

WARREN CENTRAL SCHOOL PAGE 8 RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE LEARNERS

On Friday 24 November 2017 the secondary students were fortunate enough to participate in a CPR demonstration

delivered by the local paramedics and nursing staff.

This was an invaluable opportunity for students to gain basic CPR experience in the method and techniques that

could potentially save lives.

Adrian Risley and Marian Goss from NSW Ambulance Service, together with Emma Wass and Kate Waterford from

the Warren MPHS, gave the students a demonstration of the correct technique as well as a basic information session

about the response process in an emergency situation. The students were then able to practice the technique and

ask questions of the presenters. Interestingly none of the students present had ever participated in CPR training!

We extend a huge thank you to the team that came to our school as well as the Warren Rotary Club who were instru-

mental in organising and supporting this very worthwhile community service.

Ms Taylor

Head Teacher Secondary Studies

On Monday 13 November the secondary boys cricket team played against Gulargambone Central School at Carter

Oval. After winning the toss, Warren sent Gular into bat hoping to avoid spending too much time out in the sun. A

young but very talented Gular side put up a strong defensive effort which saw 16 overs passing before a wicket fell. It

took the Warren boys 38 overs to eventually bowl Gular out for 87. Jack Taylor was outstanding with the ball finishing

with 8 for 10 off 7 overs. After a quick Lunch break Warren was determined to start strong and chase down the runs.

Jack Taylor and Jack Storer both looked solid seeing off the opening bowlers before young Jack Storer was bowled

right on drinks. Lachlan Marks came to the cease after drinks looking to end the game early, throwing the bat very

hard. After a few missed chances Gular picked up a couple of quick wickets to leave Jack Taylor and Aidan

Bermingham to finishing off the chase. Jack Taylor finishing with 57 not out.

The cricket team goes to Dubbo on 6 and 7 December for the final.

Year 10 Work Experience In Week 7, Year 10 students participated in the work experience program. This program gives students the opportunity

to experience the real working world and gain employability skills. It is generally an observation week although students

are expected to engage in the industry of their choice and work the scheduled hours of the business house or industry.

In preparation for work experience, the students have been involved in work readiness lessons. This has involved

discussion and activities on communication, punctuality, confidentiality, teamwork, and appropriate work place

behaviour, use of technology and expectations of working conditions.

A huge thankyou is extended to all the employers who willingly engaged the students in the work experience program

and shared with them the skills, passion and criteria required to succeed in their chosen industries.

The students have made positive reports of their week at work and are to be commended for their commitment to the

work experience program.

Congratulations Year 10!
