We strive to live our com- mitment to Christ by faithful worship, biblical preaching and teaching, prayer, and loving service. We believe that God loves you just as you are; and anytime you want to show up, please be our guest - we are saving you a seat! SUNDAY EUCHARIST Holy Eucharist 9:00 AM CHRISTIAN EDUCATION Sunday 10:15 AM MUSIC MINISTRY Tuesday 3:30 PM CHURCH OFFICE HOURS Mon.-Thurs. 9 AM-3 PM Fri. 9 AM-12 PM THRIFT STORE HOURS Tues.-Sat. 9 AM-4 PM July/August 2015 FROM THE VICAR’S DESK As many of you already know, on May 16 th the Diocesan Council voted to accept All Souls as a Par- ish within the Diocese of Southwest Florida. I have been asked by several people what this means for the life of All Souls, and what we may expect to see over the coming months. My first comment is “Congratulations!” This is a really big day for our church community, and it has taken a lot of effort from many people over the years to reach this point. Essentially the difference between a Parish and a Mission, which is what we have been for 28 years, is that a Parish is financially stable and self- sustaining, while a Mission may need outside support from the Diocese. We have been in the black finan- cially now for 3 years which, together with steady growth in our worshipping numbers, means we can man- age to pay our operating expenses, our obligations to the Diocese, and the costs of our staff including clergy. This achievement is not by accident; skillful, faithful management of our money, generous contribu- tions from members over many years, and of course, the awesome contribution of our thrift store, have all made this possible. From the initial concept for All Souls, a missional congregation serving N. Fort Myers, back in 1986 to our emergence as an independent Parish all rests on the dedication of so many people. A second change is that whereas a Mission is managed by a Vicar chosen by the Bishop, a Parish is more self-governing, and has the responsibility, with input from the Bishop, of calling a Rector. This process is currently underway. The joint ministry with Church of the Good Shepherd, LaBelle, may require some changes, but that is as yet undecided and the subject of ongoing conversations with the staff at Diocesan House. The governing body for our church will become a Vestry, rather than a Bishop’s Committee, and we shall have three delegates to Diocesan Convention instead of the current two. The Bishop and Diocesan Council have approved our application; the next step is for All Souls to be accepted as a Parish at the Diocesan Convention in October. The date for this will be Saturday October 17 th ; we plan to rent a bus to take everyone who can attend to make a joyous and noisy entrance to the convention hall, so please mark this day on your calendar. It will not be a long trip, convention is held in Punta Gorda. In many ways I think of this as a bit like a coming of age celebration, now we get to eat at the big ta- ble! I extend my thanks to all of you who made this possible, too many to try to name, but especially the Bishop’s Committee, the committee who managed the application process, our financial managers and our thrift store staff and volunteers.

The Thrift Store income for April was $9,795. The monetary value for the May Outreach Clothing program was a whopping $4,422.75. The Food Pantry provided food for 582 families of which 831 were adults, 417 were children, and 164 were sen-iors. A hot meal was provided and served by All Souls volunteers – 646 meals were served. Oh dear, the pressure is on – what to write about!?! I’m thinking a typical week at the Store might be good. We are closed on Mondays. If you’ve called and listened to our recorded message then you know we ask that donations should only be left during store hours. That being said – Our week starts on Tuesdays. And, it usually starts with a BANG. Logically, most people sort and clean out on the weekends making Tuesday a very busy donation day. So you come to the back of the Store with your goodies, you will be met by either Jimmy or Daniel or both! What other store can boast curb side service? With a smile and a big “Thank you” we accept your dona-tions. So let’s call Tuesday - Income Tuesday. Not only is this day a big day for “incoming” merchandise; it is also one of the best for business. It seems many of our clients drop off their donations in the back and drive around front to shop. Now Wednesday is our Outreach day. Each month we report a monetary value for the Outreach clothing pro-gram. This figure represents income the Thrift Store would have realized if the clothing had been sold instead of given away. This clothing has been sorted, inspected, cleaned, tagged, and hung up - thanks to the many volun-teers who especially work the men’s & women’s tables, the linen table, and the children’s table. They make sure that our Outreach clients have as much choice as we can provide for them on a weekly basis. As you can see from the report we service an average of 90 clients a week in a period of 2 hours, making Outreach Wednesday another very busy day! What’s next - why Furniture Thursday, of course. This is the day the truck goes out with my guys, delivers any furniture that has been bought, and picks up furniture donations that have been scheduled. Our regulars know this and usually come in the afternoons to see what’s new. Thus, making Furniture Thursday, a good income day. Now comes Freaky Friday. Friday is actually our slowest day of the week but we never know what to expect! The day could go along uneventful until a truck or van pulls up in back loaded to the gills with donations! Won-derful, right? It is until you realize that it’s 3:55 pm and you thought your day was over. Believe me! It is very difficult to smile and say thank you at that time. One never knows what to expect on Freaky Fridays. Although Fridays freak us out, nothing is as good as Super Saturday! Everyone shows up on Saturday - the back room literally hums. All the volunteers really pitch in and do whatever is necessary. By the end of the day the back room is empty; all the shelves and racks out front are full and ready for business on Tuesday. This store has the most fantastic, hardworking, fun group of people ever! So which day would you like to work – Income Tuesday, Outreach Wednesday, Furniture Thursday, Freaky Friday, or Super Saturday? Are you up to the challenge? You will be joining a very elite team! Sincerely, Dottie Brown, Mgr.
SOULFUL MUSIC FOR ALL Summer came officially on the calendar on 21 June. So Select a Summer Song is underway. There are
four or five hymns each Sunday, so there are lots of chances to make requests. Forms and basket are on the ledge at the back of the church where the sound system and power point are located. I recently returned from a three week trip to Italy. I saw numerous lovely churches, with high ceilings and lots of marble, mosaics, paintings and statues. I attended an Episcopal church in Rome and an Anglican one in Florence with pretty good music. The highlight for me was a mass using all Gregorian chant, followed by Ves-pers, also with Gregorian chant, at the church of Saint Miniato, high on a hill overlooking the city of Florence. At the Florence cathedral I heard the organ being tuned. I guess only an organist would enjoy that! Oh and also in Florence I attended a concert given by members of the Fort Myers Mastersingers and several other American choirs. I was hoping to be the audience member who travelled the farthest, but there was a fellow there from San Diego, California. Peace,
John F. Geib,

News From Your Parish Nurse
I believe that stress makes many of our problems more acute. So here are a few suggestions to help to alleviate some of your stress.
1. Pray. Anytime and Often. 2. Go to bed on time. Get enough rest. 3. Get up on time so you can start your day unrushed. 4. Eat right. 5. Find time to be alone everyday. Do something for the Kid in You, everyday. 6. Slow down. 7. Laugh and laugh some more. 8. Keep a pad handy and write down thoughts and inspirations. 9. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures and prayers on hand. 10. Take your work seriously but not yourself so much. 11. Say NO to projects that won’t fit into your schedule or that will compromise your well being. 12. Delegate tasks to capable others. 13. Simplify and unclutter your life. Get organized so everything has its place. 14. Less is more. Although one is often not enough, two are often too many. 15. Allow extra time to do things and to get places. 16. Pace yourself. Spread out big tasks over time; don’t lump the hard things together. Break
the project into smaller more manageable parts. 17. Take one day at a time. 18. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what GOD would have
you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can’t do anything about a situation, put it aside. 19. Have backups: an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key hidden outside, extra
stamps, extra money tucked away. 20. Talk Less and Listen More. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can pre-
vent an enormous amount of trouble. 21. Sit on your ego. 22. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line or for an appointment. Put it on your
reader. 23. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most). 24. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can). 25. Having problems? Talk to GOD on the spot. Nip small problems in the bud. 26. Every night before bed, think of one thing you’re grateful for that you’ve never been grateful
for before. GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR US. “If GOD is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) May GOD Bless You and Keep You in His Loving Hands, Pat Epifanio, RN, FCN 239-540-4554 or [email protected]
