Let us make this a memorable summer vacation full of good company, services, and opportunities. A reminder that cheer applications were sent out! Soon, the logo designs will be accepted as well. Keep a close watch for these announcements! I absolutely cannot wait to see more of the visuals and articles that many of your clubs have submitted, so please continue to turn them in. Verdugo 10K6

Verdugo 10 K Volunteering The Verdugo 10K Trail Run and Hike was one of the events that I would love to do every single year. The morning started off pretty slow, with members trickling in here and there, setting up food and water for the racers after the race. After the initial set-up, a few key clubbers were asked to head to the finish line to hand out water as well as cheer for the racers. I was lucky to be a part of that group. Setting up a water station and keeping people entertained while waiting for the racers to come plowing down was a fun task. Boosting morale and cheering was definitely a fun task that entertained not only us key clubbers, but those waiting for the racers to come down as well. As soon as the first racer came down, the tasks came on quickly. Taking down times, making sure each racer had the correct information and went to the correct areas after the race itself while cheering were pretty simple tasks. The most rewarding part, however, was seeing the racers give a strong kick after seeing people cheering them on. Knowing that cheers and claps and yells could do so much put a smile on my face, and it was truly inspiring to see how quickly these racers finished the course. All in all, I'd come back to Brand Park every single year and do it over again, just to see the racers finish. – Waree Eckchanul (Holy Family)

MacArthur Park Clean-Up On May 28th, Division 3 South had its second DCM on its new term. Representatives from each clubs discuss their involvement within the community in the past month. Our Lieutenant Governor held a voting on what D3S’s colors would be. The initial colors, burgundy and gold, were invalid because it was a region color. Our second choice, blue and silver, was almost a unanimous vote. The LTG also encouraged members to send it cheer suggestions which would be used throughout the division. After discussing important matters, members at the DCM played icebreakers so members can be interactive amongst each other. These activities concluded the DCM portion of the day. After the DCM, members started cleaning up MacArthur Park as an act of service towards the community and also a commemoration for Memorial Day. After cleaning the park, members were treated to lunch and were given hotdogs and drinks. Since there were extra hotdogs, some members decided to feed the underprivileged people in the park. This only proved that Key Clubbers aren’t just there to do the work, but that they are also sincere in their hearts to offer a welcoming gesture to anyone and everyone. When the event came to an end, Key Club not only cleaned the park, but it also showed its purpose as unison. –Muaz Jefi( John Marhall)

For the month of May, the officer of the month, is none other than our very energetic and enthusiastic president, John Paul Mateo Rigonan. From being well known throughout STEM Academy, he has managed to spark other students’ interest into Key Club. His popularity amongst his peers increased the membership and attendees in our weekly meetings. We even ran out of copies of the agenda and had them share with one another. He also got our meetings alive and running by the constant icebreakers we play in our weekly meetings after we have finished the old and new business in the agenda. John Paul, not only does this to make our meetings fun, but he also provides incentives and prizes for members. For example, for one, he gave out chocolates to those who did the “How Do You Feel?!” cheer.

John Paul actually got everyone to cheer along with him. In addition to his dedication to the inclusiveness he demonstrates, he has provided our club with many service projects in the month of May. Surprisingly a few more service projects than what we’ve had in the month of April, which was a lot more than we usually have. With the many service projects he’s given our members and the fundraisers he organized that is currently taking place, STEM Academy was awarded the Club of the Month for April! This was all from his great effort that he brought in the club. Just shortly after getting our Key Club chartered just three months ago, we’ve received such an award in our division. Thus, from his strong leadership, love for service, and commitment, John Paul is awarded the officer of the month.

OFFICER OF THE MONTH

For this month of May, the member that stood out the most was Kate Hipolito. She has attended almost all of the events of May; a daunting task to accomplish considering that the AP Exams took place the first two weeks of May. Kate seems promising for a commissioner position or the second Historian position as she has shown with her hard work and dedication throughout her many years in Key Club and her wonderfully done job as Historian for the second half of the previous Key Club term. Kate has been a great help in all of the events she’s attended this month: the Junior Choir Concert, the Relay for Life, the bake sale, and the DCM & MacArthur Park Cleanup. All of these events have exemplified the time Kate is willing to give to Key Club, even if it means giving up hours to sleep in or leisurely hours after school. She is truly a valuable member to our club. Kate has proven herself as a committed and enthusiastic member, and we hope that such spirit will be spread throughout our Club like wildfire, as she has already positively influenced many of our members. It is for all of these reasons, and so many others, that Division 3 South would like to honor Kate Hipolito with Member of the Month of May 2012!

To my lovely Division 3 South; a big hi from your Executive Assistant! My name is Veniel Espanol, for those who do not know of me yet. I can’t wait to see your BEEutiful faces in future events. Don’t forget to bring that Key Club spirit and love for service, because that is what we’re all about. Any questions about Key Club your itching to know or any general knowledge you want to acquire? Don’t be afraid to ask me anything. I’ll basically your slave for anything Key Club related. As what our Lt. Governor say, “To serve, so that others may lead.” I will be there for you. Can’t wait to meet you! We are one big ohana.

Hi. My name is Jade Archuleta and I am the division secretary of Division 3 South. I want to make this term fun and memorable. This year may be the term we realigned but it's a term to make new memories and new traditions. I hope I can contribute to these traditions. We are still a family and must become closer with each other and not to become a stranger. One of my personal goals is to meet as many if not all of the key clubbers I can and this should be your goal as well. This is our year to do as much as we can and have fun doing it. We are an ohana.

Hello Division 3 South Wolves! My name Is Erick Jason and I am from John Marshall. I am your current Division News Editor, so I’m in charge of the newsletter and most of the things related to publication and graphic standards! For this term, we are lucky to be the pioneers of 3 South because we will be able to leave them with a legacy that will improve our service aspect, plus reel in new members with our saying, “There is no lone wolf.” I look forward to working with each and every one of the members at Service events, or just having fun with them at socials! Let’s make this year, a year we will never forget, our first year as Wolves must be fun and service filled! Let’s howl for service 3 South Wolves!

Hello, fellow Wolves! My name is Dustin Tran and I am looking forward to an amazing term full of magic and service! As Interclub Coordinator, I cannot wait to help the clubs in our division get acquainted with each other! As Lieutenant Governor Marion Barleta once said, "There are no lone wolves!" The same concept goes to clubs, too! There are no lone clubs! As a Division we must work together in order to bring our efforts to their fullest potential! I look forward to working with all of the clubs and promoting this Interclub Activity so that we can make Key Club a better experience for everyone!

Hello fellow Key Clubbers! My name is Stephanie Thi, I'm the 2012-2013 Fundraising Coordinator for Division 3 South and I just wanted to say I'm beyond excited to work with you guys! This year, I plan to have FUNdraising along with FUNDraising events! I want people within our division to be able to interact with one another and get the opportunity to meet new people, but at the same time, raise money for a good cause. After banquet, any and all money our division raises will go directly to an organization, such as PTP. My main goal this year is simply to make Key Club enjoyable but at the same time, address our main emphasis of helping out others. I'm looking forward to working alongside with each of you and if you guys see me around at events, don't be afraid to say hi!
