Why reading to your baby is important?

Reading to Baby is one of the most soothing interactions you’ll have. Turns out it’s a

bonding experience with benefits, improving vocabulary, reading readiness, focus, and

attention. As with adults, reading contributes to a child’s general knowledge of the

world. You can start as early as birth on this together-time activity that’s truly

powerful for both of you.

Why Read to Babies Through story time interactions now, your baby will develop abilities including language and social skills -- to later advance her school learning. Plus, story time fosters a close emotional relationship between you and your baby. It will help babies learn to associate books with the pleasure of being with parents, and this pleasure will translate to a love of reading. When to Start Reading Starting to read to your baby at birth is ideal to establish a habit of reading. But you can start a little later. Ideally is that you begin reading to your baby daily once your baby turns 6 months. Your baby is unable to make sense of what he hears at this age, but his brain still receives stimulation. This early exposure to language will help your little ones become successful readers and writers. Make sure that by 12 months, your baby is exposed to developmental books. Although he can't verbally show his language skills, he is experiencing an explosion of language interest and is mentally combining words to create new ideas. By the age of 2, your child is developmentally ready to experience the real pleasure of books. Reading Frequency Set aside time every day to read with your baby, regardless of how old she is. There's also no limit to how long story time should last. For your little baby, the most important thing is the interaction with you -- your voice, your embrace, and your scent. These components stimulate learning in babyhood. If your child has already developed verbal skills, you can start with 10 minutes of reading three times a day, and monitor your child's attention level. If she is able to follow along, keep reading. Once your child stops responding to your questions, take a break. It's also not necessary to stop reading to your child once she can read because she will still enjoy sharing time with you. You can start by running your fingers under the words as you read to show that print carries the story. Occasionally, stop and ask your baby to name things in the pictures. Then talk about how the story and pictures relate.

Kif Inharsu ‘l Uliedna minn Avvelinament

Ghexieren ta’ tfal, specjalment toddlers, jiddahhlu l-isptar kull sena ghax

ikunu belghu xi medicini jew xorbu xi kimici. Hafna drabi jghaddi kollox

b’wicc il-gid, imma kultant il-konsegwenzi jistghu jkunu koroh.

Il- Prevenzjoni

Il-medicini ghandhom jinzammu msakkrin f’kexxun jew f’armarju fejn ma

jintlahqux mit-tfal. Il-bottijiet ‘child proof’ huma tajbin, imma mhux l-ewwel

darba li t-tfal irnexxielhom jiftuhom. Tippreparax medicini jew halib fid-dlam ghax facilment tista’ tizbalja jew taghti doza

hazina. Ara li taghti d-doza korretta tal-medicina. Nghidu ahna tfal li jiznu 10 kg jew anqas jistghu jiehdu sa’ 125mg

paracetamol kull 6 sieghat (jew wara 4 sieghat ghal darba jew darbtejn biss – u mhux jibqghu jiehdu l-paracetamol kull 4

sighat ghal gurnatua shiha). Ftakar li l-Arfen, ir-Remedol, il-Calpol u l-Panadol huma l-istess medicina b’isem differenti, u

ghalhekk ma tistax taghtihom fl-istess hin. Overdose ta’ paracetamol tista’ taghmel hsara fil-fwied.

Prodotti tat-tindif (bhall-bleach) u dizinfettanti (bhad-Dettol) ghandhom jitqieghdu f’post fejn ma jintlahqux mit-tfal.

Tpoggix kimici jew pitrolju go fliexken tal-luminata.

Armi batteriji zghar (‘button’) uzati ghax dawn huma partikolarment perikoluzi. Jekk tifel jibla’ wahda minnhom, tista’

tohrog il-kimika u tikkawza perforazzjoni fil-pajp ta’ l-ikel.

L-alkohol huwa velenu ghat-tfal - jistghu jintilfu minn sensihom u jbaxxi z-zokkor fid-demm ghal-livell perikoluz. It-tfal

zghar m’ghandhomx jinghataw alkohol, lanqas biex ‘niggustawhom’, u m’ghandhomx ikollhom access ghal xarbiet alko-

holici. Il-genituri ghandhom jiddiskuti l-uzu sensibbli ta’ l-alkohol ma’ tfal akbar u jaghtuhom ezempju u mudell tajjeb bil-

li juzaw l-alkohol b’mod responsabbli, nghidu ahna billi kultant jixorbu tazza inbid ma’ l-ikel.

Il-Kura

Jekk issib pilloli jew likwidi mxerrdin ma

l-art, jew riha mhux tas-soltu fil-halq jew fuq l-hwejjeg tat-

tifel, ghandek tissuspetta li seta’ bela’ xi haga. Is-sintomi jist-

ghu jkunu telqa, konfuzjoni, naghas u rimettar. Jista’ ma jkun

hemm ebda sintomi specjalment fl-ewwel sieghat. Ghalhekk

hu azzjoni mill-ewwel anke jekk m’ghandikx evidenza zgura

ta’ avvelinament. F’kaz ta’ avvelinament, cempel lit-tabib tat

-tfal tieghek ghall-parir jew mur l-emergenza. Tipprovax ig-

gieghel lit-tifel jirremmeti jekk mhux fuq parir mediku,

specjalment jekk ma jkunx mija fil-mija f’sensieh (u ghahekk

ikun hemm il-periklu li jixraq) jew jekk ikun bela’ xi likwidu

corrosive bhall-acidu jew volatili bhat-thinner (ghax jerga’

jahraq il-passagg ta’ l-ikel, il-grizmejn u l-halq). Hu t-tifel l-

isptar mill-ewwel, u hu mieghek il-flixkun jew bott li tissus-

petta li jkun ha. Tahlix hin sakemm tmur l-isptar - aktar ma

tasal kmieni ahjar. Kultant ikun hemm bzonn innaddfu l-

istonku billi nghaddu tubu mill-imnieher, niehdu xi testijiet

(bhal livell ta’ paracetamol fid-demm) u naghtu ‘activated

charcoal’ biex jassorbi l-medicina mill-

istonku. Generalment it-tifel jinzamm

ghall osservazzjoni u monitoring biex

jekk ikun hemm bzonn xi intervent ikun

jista’ jsir fil-hin.
