Have a FUN Summer!
BESTfor Women
¡Hola Amigas! Hello friends and fellow Soroptimist. First of
all, I want to thank everyone who made the installation a memorable
event for me. Thank you Installation Banquet Committee. The Fiesta
theme, Folkloric dancers and decorations hit just the right note
for the evening’s festivities. Kay Lynne thanked Amanda, Debbie and
Alex in particular that evening; I want to thank them again. Also
to all the members of the committee who helped plan and set up the
decorations from the sombreros, serapes, fiesta flags to the lovely
ribbon festooned programs and flower fascinators. Your hard work
was appreciated.
Our treasurer Barb Stout reports we now have 45 Soroptimist
registered as members which includes Forty-two regular memberships
with three life time memberships. We as your Board of Directors are
very pleased with the growing number of Soroptimist. One of our
goals is to make Soroptimist the Club of choice for women in the
Rogue Valley. I know our current meeting space may become too small
in the future but what a wonderful problem to have to solve. Please
let our membership chairs, Barb Hetland and Karen Machin, know if
you have any friends or business associates who might be interested
in joining. They are considering having a fun event in September to
invite these possible future members.
Finally, it’s summer time and the heat has arrived. This is the
season we traditionally use to recharge our energy and enthusiasm
by vacationing, gardening, and visiting with our family and friends
out of state or at home. We also have fun and raise money in Our
Pillow Booth at OSF. Kathy Garrett-Canape and I will be traveling
to Hawaii soon to attend Federation. We will have information to
share with you in the fall. I look forward to seeing all of you in
September, rested from your travels with great storIes to share
about your summer adventures.
In soroptimist friendship,
President Georgina

“I’ve been in Ashland about a year, and still spend some time in
San Francisco. I am now working on my passion: art--painting
mostly. I made my career in management consulting, working with
organization change and strategy. I feel that I can return some of
the advantages I have had in life by working with SIAshland, and am
happy Barb Stout introduced me and brought me in! I am ex-cited to
get to know a wonderful group of interesting, community-minded
women as I get started in Ashland. I look forward to work-ing with
the school and hands-on projects, and the pillows sound fun! Thanks
for having me!” —Cory Ross

The party originally scheduled for the first weekend of summer
had to be cancelled due to cold rainy weather and rescheduled for
the first weekend in July. So, with temperatures predicted in the
high 90’s the party at Susan Hollandsworth’s backyard went on
without a hitch. We had one of our largest crowds with 20 people in
attendance. This is the first time in three years people actually
used the pool. Yes, it was that hot. Barb Hetland was the first one
in, then Patti , Georgina and finally John jumped in the pool.
The menu included carnitas, re-fried beans with jalapenos,
Spanish rice
with green peas, ceviche, freshly made taco shells, chips and
salsa, a taco bar, margaritas, freshly brewed tea, soft drinks,
beer and wine plus Ice cold water. Desert was Tres Leches cake with
blue berries and raspberries. Party goers included Karen Machen,
Kathy G-C, Signa Fischer, Mavis Cloutier, Kathy Mooney, Mike
Mooney, Joy Dobson Way, Gail Rosenberg, Larry Rosenberg, Alex
Zaremska, John Rose, Patti Lane, David Lane, Yolanda Nagel, Rick
Nagel, Barb Hetland, David Hollandsworth and Terry Holderness.
Everyone had so much fun they said we can hardly wait until next
year. So, we will have another Margarita Taco Pool Party next July
and avoid the cold and rain.
