WL HARVEST FAIR PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

On behalf of the Council of the City of Williams Lake, welcome to the Harvest Fair, celebrating its 36th year.Thank you once again to the Harvest Fair Committee who has put together another

wonderful event on behalf of our community. Your hard work and dedication is appreciated. New this year at this tremendous event is the Cariboo Cattlemens Chili cookoff and a crafters market, as well as regular features such as Cariboo Carriage wagon rides, a Gymkhana and Dog Agility events. All your favorites are returning as well - the Cariboo Piecemakers amazing Quilt competition, as well as the BC Pro Bull Riding Finals, and many great traditional displays in the Exhibit Hall.

I would encourage you take part in this year’s Fair by entering your wares in the wide range of classifications. Many of you will participate for the first time, others will continue their tradition.There is non-stop entertainment and fun for the entire family, September 8th and 9th.Good luck to all the exhibitors! It’s time for the 36th annual Williams Lake Harvest Fair! We are honored to host this annual celebration of agriculture in the province of BC in the Cariboo, Coast and Chilcotin Regions. Cariboo Carriage will be providing wagon rides throughout the Stampede Park grounds throughout the weekend. This will give everyone an opportunity to take in the Livestock in the Trailriders arena, Dog Agility in the infield on Saturday, Gymkhana on Sunday and, the BC Pro Bull Riding finals on both days, and the big Toys and Exhibit Hall (curling club) without having to walk too far! There will be non stop entertainment on the stage adjacent to the Curling Club for both days of thefair featuring local entertainers, clowns, and magicians for your enjoyment. Don’t miss out on our new

events this year, including the Cariboo Cattlemens Chili Cookoff on Saturday and the Childrens craft area. Thank you to all of our generous sponsors who continue to support this great community event!See you at the fair, September 8 and 9. Tammy Tugnum, President

Drop-offentry form(s) and fee points will not make change, nor provide receipts. After 4:00 pm Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, bring to the CURLING RINK between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm. NOTE: Late entries will be accepted in Sections A to T; up until 5:00 pm ( at the Curling Club)Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 at double the normal entry fee, per exhibit. For late entries in Section Vthrough X , see appropriate individual sections.

GENERAL INFORMATION for EXHIBITORSThe Williams Lake Harvest Fair is not in the business of profit. The sole purpose of thefair is to encourage the development of arts and crafts, home arts, gardening, livestock,etc. The Harvest Fair Board consists of volunteers who work year round for no gain other than the personal satisfaction of staging a community fair. We would appreciate

ENTRIES:

1 Unlimited entries allowed unless otherwise stated.2 Entry fees will be $0.50 per entry, unless otherwise stated in section.3 Prize money will be: 1st $2.00, 2nd $1.50, 3rd $1.00,unless otherwise stated.4 Prize money must be picked up in person Sunday afternoon prior to the close of the fair. Any

prize money remaining will revert to the Williams Lake Harvest Fair. Prize money will notbe available prior to 4:00 pm.

5 Entry fees will not be refunded for exhibits not entered, except where specifically stated.6 Entries must not have been exhibited at the Williams Lake Harvest Fair in previous years.7 All entries must be the work of the exhibitor. Exhibitor's name must not appear on any

exhibit.8 Entries entered in wrong classes will be disqualified at time of judging.9 Please read the rules at the beginning of each section that you enter.

10 All exhibits, except for entries in Sections R,S and T, must be brought to the exhibit building -Curling Rink, and arranged between the hours of 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm Friday, September 72012. Any exhibitor will more than 20 exhibits must start arranging before 4:00 pm. Section R-Z, see specific section for times for animals to be brought in.

11 Exhibits must be left until 4:00 pm, Sunday, September 9, 2012. Any artilce or display left inthe building or on the grounds after the close of the fair is left at the owner's risk.

12 Exhibits shall not be priced or sold while on display.13 HARVEST FAIR AUCTION: All entries are required to state on the entry tag if the exhibit is

to be entered in the Harvest Fair Auction which takes place on Sunday, September 9, 2012,at 4:00 pm. A separate table will be made available for auction items on that day. Allproceeds from the auction will be donated to the Williams Lake Harvest Fair.

JUDGING:

14 Judging of exhibits in Sections A - Q will commence 6:00 pm, Friday, September 7, 2012 andcontinue on Saturday until 10:00 am. The public is barred from the exhibit building - CurlingRink, during judging. Public attendance is welcome at all livestock judging Saturday, Sept. 8,2012 at various times throughout the day.

15 Points awarded are: 1st - 3 points, 2nd - 2 points, 3rd - 1 point.16 Fruits, flowers and vegetables must be correctly named in variety or points will be lost. It

will be the responsibility of the exhibitor to enter variety names on the entry tags when theyare picked up on Friday, September 7, 2012.

17 All fruits, field crops, vegetables and domestic science will be judged according to the Standards Of Perfection as issued by the BC Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.Information may be obtained from the BC Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and FoodDepartment, 300-640 Borland Street, Williams Lake, BC.

18 In the absence of competition in any class, judges will give only such prizes as they deemworthy, or no prize at all. After the completion of judging, all entry tags will be opened.

19 Should there arise any dispute not governed in the bylaws or rules and regulations of the Williams Lake Harvest Fair, it shall be referred to the Williams Lake Harvest Fair AssociationBoard, whose decision shall be final. All protests and appeals must be lodged with theSecretary in writing and accompanied by a $10.00 deposit by 1:00 pm on the last day of thefair. If the complaint is upheld, the deposit will be refunded.

GRAND AGGREGATE RULES:

20 Groups, clubs or associations are not eligible to win the Grand Aggregate Trophy.

21 The Grand Aggregate Trophy goes to the individual with the greatest number of total points(individual must enter using the same name in three or more sections to be eligible).

MISCELLANEOUS:

22 Every care will be taken with the exhibits, however, the Harvest Fair Board will not be liablefor the loss to any exhibitor occasioned by fire, theft, accident, condition or structure, or bythe negligence of other exhibitors, official, spectators or otherwise howsoever.

23 No claim for injury to any person or property shall be asserted of suit instituted, or maintainedagainst the Williams Lake Harvest Fair Board or their agents by ,or on behalf of, any visitor,exhibitor, and or person, form or corporation or their agents, representatives, servants, oremployees having license, privilege, to visit or exhibit on the grounds of the fair or occupyingany space thereon.

24 The Williams Lake Harvest Fair reserves the right to refuse anyone entry.

25 In case there are insufficient funds to pay prizes in full, they will be paid prorate.

26 AMATEUR: One who pursues his or her interest for pleasure and enjoyment only and not formonetary gains.

CARIBOO GOAT BREEDERS

Cariboo Goat Breeders Association will be having a display of goats at the fair, also included will be some displays of products made with goats milk or fiber and educational posters related to goats.

There will also be a practice showing session to help owners learn how to show their goats. This will be especially helpful to 4-H members planning on having goat projects. This is open to dairy, meat goats or pet goats. If you would like to display your goat or other goat related items, please contact Ruth Shaw at [email protected]
