Morning MindfulnessJoin Judi Bar, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT and Jane Ehrman, MEd, CHES, CHT for Morning Mindfulness —

a session devoted to gentle stretching and relaxation techniques for all ages. Learn about the benefits of

mindfulness, including stress relief and improved focus, as well as tips on how to incorporate mindfulness

into your everyday life.

Judi Bar

Judi Bar is a Yoga Specialist and Yoga Program Manager at Cleveland Clinic Wellness & Preventive Medicine.

Ms. Bar specializes in yoga to treat chronic pain and illness, including post-liver transplant. She developed a

specialized yoga program for patients, caregivers and families. Her unique yoga style is a heart-centered

approach that is inclusive and accessible to everyone, even those not comfortable in a traditional yoga class.

Ms. Bar is the creator and Program Director for Cleveland Clinic School of Yoga, established in 2015. She has

two yoga DVDs, making yoga available to all.

Jane Ehrman

Jane Ehrman is a Lifestyle Medicine Expert and has a Masters of Education in Health Education with an

emphasis on mind/body medicine from the Harvard Mind/Body Medical Institute and Academy for Guided

Imagery. She has certifications in Interactive Guided Imagery™ and Intrinsic Wellness Coaching. Ms. Ehrman

believes that in order to change your life, you have to change your mind. She teaches effective mind-body tools

to relieve stress, prepare for medical procedures, improve productivity and make the mental shift to a healthier

way of living and being.

Moderator: Hollie Strano, WKYC

Hollie Strano is a meteorologist at WKYC-TV, 3News in Cleveland. She is the morning meteorologist and

anchor on 3GO, which airs from 4-7 a.m. Hollie is also the host of Live on Lakeside, a midday talk show on

WKYC from 11 a.m. to noon, which features local restaurants, celebrity guests, community segments and

much more. Hollie was named one of Cleveland Magazine’s most interesting people. She has received awards

for her work involving helping others with anxiety and mental health.

Q&A with Lara A. Kalafatis

Lara A. Kalafatis has been Chair of Cleveland Clinic’s Philanthropy Institute since 2017. She is responsible

for all philanthropy across the global enterprise including leading the $2 billion centennial campaign for

Cleveland Clinic. Previously, Ms. Kalafatis was Vice President of Development and University Relations at

Case Western Reserve University, where she served since 2005. She was inducted into Leadership Cleveland

in spring of 2007. In fall of 2006, Crain’s Cleveland Business recognized Lara as part of the 40 under 40

class for her leadership and community involvement. Ms. Kalafatis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in

journalism and history from Indiana University in 1990.

Q & A with Margaret McKenzie, MD

Dr. McKenzie has been the President of Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital since 2017. Dr. McKenzie

joined Cleveland Clinic Ob/Gyn & Women’s Health Institute in 1995, and was named Section Head of

General Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2008. Dr. McKenzie has co-authored two books and written

several book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals. She is a sought-after speaker locally, nationally

and internationally.

Q &A with Jonathan Braue, MD

Dr. Braue grew up in Vero Beach, Florida and attended the University of South Florida for both his undergraduate

studies and medical school. After attending Vanderbilt University his preliminary Internal Medicine training

and Dermatology residency, he moved back to Vero Beach to work at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital,

Scully-Welsh Cancer Center in August of 2019. Dr. Braue specializes in cutaneous oncology and has a clinical

and research interest in cutaneous lymphoma.

Q & A with J. Chase Holmes

Jonathan Chase Holmes is a Cleveland native dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals

through health education and fitness. He received his Masters’s degree in Exercise Science from Cleveland

State University and is currently working toward a doctorate in Urban Education. In his current position as

a Program Manager in Community Relations for the Cleveland Clinic, Mr. Holmes primarily works at the

Langston Hughes Community Health & Education Center, which provides free services to individuals in the

communities that surround the main campus. He has been embedded in his work for nearly a decade,

implementing programs focused on education, physical fitness, and youth outreach, along with developing

methods to track positive outcomes. Mr. Holmes feels the best aspect of his job is the ability to serve the people

in his own community.

Mindful Eating

Q & A with Susan Albers, PsyD

Dr. Albers is a Psychologist at the Women’s Health Center at the Wooster branch of Cleveland Clinic. At the

Women’s Health Center, she provides individual counseling for women with depression, eating issues,

relationship problems, sexual concerns and weight loss. Dr. Albers is also a New York Times bestselling author

and has written nine books about mindful eating. She has been a guest on the Dr. Oz Show, NBC’s Today Show

and NPR. Her books and tips have been featured in Shape, Prevention Magazine, Self, The New York Times,

Fitness Magazine, People, Vanity Fair, Natural Health and the Wall Street Journal.

Session 1: Mental Health and Well-Being | Q & A with Leo Pozuelo, MD11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. EDT

More than 25% of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder in their lifetime. Dr. Pozuelo

will address the growing need for mental health services during the COVID-19 pandemic and how virtual

visits have become an integral part of how patients are receiving mental health care. He will also discuss the

impact of mental health on individuals, families and the community, as well as Cleveland Clinic’s approach

to care and treatment.

Leo Pozuelo, MD, FACP, has been a Staff Psychiatrist at Cleveland Clinic since 1997. He served as the Section

Head of Consultation Psychiatry from 2005 to 2019. Dr. Pozuelo is dual trained in internal medicine and

psychiatry. In 2011, he was appointed Vice Chair, Clinical, of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology

at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Pozuelo’s current duties include expanding consultation psychiatry service lines

through six regional hospitals, collaborating with nursing and social work in behavioral medicine education,

leading the enterprise on the delirium task force and supporting behavioral health integration as part of

population management.

Session 2: Healthy at Work | Q & A with James Merlino, MD11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. EDT

A leader of Cleveland Clinic’s Back to Work initiative, Dr. Merlino will highlight the current recommended

strategies for companies and organizations returning to the office. He will also explain what employees

should expect from their employer as they return to work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

James Merlino, MD, is Cleveland Clinic’s Chief Clinical Transformation Officer, and oversees Enterprise

Safety and Quality, the Office of Patient Experience and Continuous Improvement. With more than 30 years of

healthcare experience, Dr. Merlino is a recognized expert in improving the patient experience and is frequently

invited to speak on strategies to redefine care around the needs of patients. In 2013, Dr. Merlino was named

to HealthLeaders Magazine’s list of “20 people who make healthcare better,” and Becker’s Hospital Review’s

List of top 50 experts in healthcare safety four years in a row (2015-2018). He has been widely published in

academic papers and is the author and editor of two books.

Session 3: Healthy Aging | Q & A with Ardeshir Hashmi, MD12 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. EDT

We all know pediatric medicine provides specialty care for our youth, but a lesser known area is geriatric

medicine for our older adults. Dr. Hashmi will talk about the care offered at Cleveland Clinic’s Center for

Geriatric Medicine, including why and when a person should consider specialized geriatric care.

Ardeshir Hashmi, MD, completed his medical training at Aga Khan University, the premiere medical school

in Pakistan, and went on to pursue a two year postdoctoral research fellowship in Hepatology and Immunol-

ogy at Yale. He previously trained at Massachusetts General Hospital as a Clinical and Research Fellow in

Geriatrics, after which he accepted a position as a Geriatrics faculty member at Harvard Medicine and became

Medical Director of MGH Senior Health. In 2017, Dr. Hashmi left that position to join Cleveland Clinic as

Director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Hashmi was named as the first ever recipi-

ent of the Endowed Chair for Geriatric Innovation at Cleveland Clinic in 2020.

Session 4: Healthy Sleep | Q & A with Nancy Foldvary-Schaefer, DO, MS12 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. EDT

Sleep is essential to overall health and it’s something that everyone needs, every day. Dr. Foldvary-Schaefer will

discuss the effects of sleep on the body and mind, as well as Cleveland Clinic’s multidisciplinary approach to

sleep medicine. She will also shed light on the possible connection between sleep and neurodegenerative diseases.

Nancy Foldvary-Schaefer, DO, MS, is Director of the Sleep Disorders Center and Staff in the Epilepsy Center.

She is a Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve

University with a Joint Appointment in the Women’s Health Center at Cleveland Clinic. Certified by the

American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine

and the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology, Dr. Foldvary-Schaefer has treated patients with sleep

disorders and epilepsy at Cleveland Clinic since 1995. She has served as a lead investigator on numerous

clinical trials and has published on sleep and epilepsy, epilepsy surgery, EEG, women’s issues in epilepsy and

sleep disorders.

President Tom Mihaljevic, MD.

Tom Mihaljevic, MD

Tom Mihaljevic, MD, is Chief Executive Officer and President of Cleveland Clinic, leading an $8 billion

healthcare system that includes a main campus in Cleveland, Ohio, 11 regional hospitals, 18 family health

centers, and facilities in Florida, Nevada, Toronto, Abu Dhabi, and London. Dr. Mihaljevic previously served

as CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD), where he oversaw the opening of the 365-bed hospital and

clinic, with 3,000 caregivers, in 2015. Under his leadership, CCAD expanded its treatment capabilities, built

relationships in the private and public sectors, and established its growing reputation for clinical

excellence, research, and education. From 2010 to 2015, Dr. Mihaljevic was chief of staff and chairman

of the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute at CCAD. He led a recruitment effort that drew 5,500 applications

for 175 physician posts, and went on to launch the most advanced cardiovascular program in the Middle

East. Dr. Mihaljevic joined Cleveland Clinic in 2004 as a surgeon in the Department of Thoracic and

Cardiovascular Surgery. He has performed almost 3,000 operations over the course of his career, specializing

in minimally invasive and robotically assisted procedures, valve replacement and repair, image-guided surgery,

heart failure and cardiac transplantation.

Introducing the Center for Immuno-oncology and the Center for Global and Emerging Pathogens Research

Serpil Ezurum, MD

Dr. Erzurum is Chair of the Lerner Research Institute of Cleveland Clinic. A member of Cleveland Clinic’s

staff since 1993, Dr. Erzurum holds the Alfred Lerner Memorial Chair in Innovative Biomedical Research.

A practicing pulmonologist, Dr. Erzurum’s scientific accomplishments have been broad and far-reaching in

impact in respiratory medicine. Her contributions and leadership in pulmonary research have led to diagnostic

and therapeutic advances in lung diseases, and helped to identify human physiologic adaptive responses to

high-altitude hypoxia. She has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and has been a principal investigator

on more than 20 federal grants, including multi-investigator program project grants and network trials.

Tim Chan, MD, PhD

Dr. Chan is the Director of Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Immunotherapy and Precision Immuno-Oncology.

A renowned immuno-oncology and cancer genomics expert, Dr. Chan was appointed in 2020 to lead the new

center which brings together multidisciplinary experts from across the Cleveland Clinic enterprise to advance

research and treatment related to the rapidly growing field of immuno-oncology.

Jae Jung, PhD

Dr. Jung is the Director of Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Global and Emerging Pathogens Research. Dr. Jung is an

internationally renowned virology researcher who has broken ground in the field of inflammation, immunity and

emerging viruses, including those believed to cause certain cancers. Jung studies virus-host interactions, influenza

viruses and virus-induced cancers. He has several research projects related to coronaviruses, including vaccine and

drug development and working with preclinical models to study COVID-19 infection and transmission.

Ideas for TomorrowDavid Feinberg, MD, Head of Google Health, discusses technology taking on today’s big healthcare challenges.

Dr. Feinberg currently leads Google Health, a team employing Google’s expertise in AI, product innovation,

and hardware to take on big healthcare challenges. Previously, he was President and CEO of Geisinger, one

of the nation’s most innovative health services organizations. While at Geisinger, Dr. Feinberg oversaw 13

hospital campuses, a 600,000-member health plan, research centers, and various initiatives aimed at better

engaging patients around their health and well-being. Prior to Geisinger, he served as CEO of UCLA’s hospitals

and Associate Vice Chancellor of UCLA Health Sciences, as well as President of UCLA Health System.

Dr. Feinberg graduated with distinction from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School and

holds an MBA from Pepperdine University.

Tastings & TalkA conversation about wine, chocolate and heart health with A. Marc Gillinov, MD and Michael Minnillo,

General Manager of The French Laundry, hosted by Monica Robins, WKYC.

A. Marc Gillinov is Chair of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in the Sydell and Arnold

Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He is board-certified by the American

Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Gillinov holds the Judith Dion Pyle Chair

in Heart Valve Research. He is also Chair of the NIH-funded Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network. In

addition, he is Surgical Director of the Center for Atrial Fibrillation at Cleveland Clinic. In response to patients’

questions, Dr. Gillinov worked with Dr. Steven Nissen to write Heart 411: The Only Heart Guide You Will Ever

Need. The goal of the book is to help people learn about heart health and live a heart-healthy lifestyle.

Michael Minnillo, General Manager of The French Laundry, a James Beard award-winning restaurant in

Yountville, California, is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up in the restaurant industry, working at his

father’s well-received Baricelli Inn. Then with what began as a culinary apprenticeship at The French Laundry

in 1998, Mr. Minnillo grew into a chef de partie role before he turned his sights to the dining room, quickly

rising to become a captain on the service team. After opening Per Se in New York’s Columbus Circle in 2004,

he returned to Napa Valley and The French Laundry in the role of General Manager in 2012. Mr. Minnillo’s

legacy in both the kitchen and dining room affords him unique insight into the standards of service for which

the establishment is known, and he continues to raise the bar.

Monica Robins is an Emmy award winning reporter at WKYC-TV, 3News in Cleveland, well known as one of

Northeast Ohio’s most reliable and trusted sources for health news. As Senior Health Correspondent, she has

earned the respect of the region’s medical establishments, including The Academy of Medicine of Cleveland

and Northern Ohio for fair, accurate and unbiased reporting. Her stories are broadcast nationally and her more

than 25 Cleveland Clinic “Medical Miracle” specials have also aired in the Middle East and Turkey.
