Mission It is the mission of the Ware Council on Aging to identify the total needs of the community’s elder population, to link services to those needs and to
improve the quality of life for our seniors
The Grand Re-Opening!
The Senior Center will open to the public on July 6th and will fill in a full program schedule as instructors be-
come available. (check the schedule) We will be resuming congregate meals in the dining area, although a
hybrid of three days-congregate/two-days grab and go is being implemented for the month of July which is
clearly marked on the July menu.
The State Mask Policy will still be in effect and will continue to be posted around the building pending any
changes at the State level.
Communal activities such as BINGO, Card Leagues, Book Club, Quilting Club, Art Class and Exercise equip-
ment will be reinstituted with some new guidelines on hygiene/sanitizing protocols and social distancing
where applicable.
Entry/egress to and from the building will be restricted (with the exception of an emergency) to one way in
and one way out and the sign in/ sanitize station will remain part of the entry protocol.
Social Services with Maire Brighid will continue to be by appointment only on a one on one format.
Van service will come back online for three days a week as we are down to one volunteer driver. In July, van
service will be available on Mon, Wed and Fri 8:30-12PM. Masks are required at all times when using the van.
We Need Your Help to Make Ware a More Age Friendly Place to Live
The Town of Ware's Age and Dementia Friendly Working Group, in partnership with the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC), is gathering information that will be used to develop a Community Assessment and Action Plan for making Ware an Age and Dementia Friendly Community. The group has developed a sur-vey to gather input from older adults and their caregivers on a number of aspects of the community that make it a good place in which to grow old. A Community Assessment and Action Plan will be developed with the results of this survey and other community engagement events that will be scheduled this summer and Fall. The report will serve as a road map for changes that can be made to the social and built environments to make the Town a more welcoming place for people of all ages and abilities.
The Age and Dementia Friendly Ware project is part of a larger Age Friendly Pioneer Valley initiative that the PVPC is leading with funding from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation. Through this initiative, PVPC is providing technical assistance to communities in the PVPC service area (Hampden and Hampshire Counties) to help them become Age and Dementia Friendly and to complete community assessments and action plans. Cur-rently the towns of Agawam, Belchertown, Northampton, and South Hadley are also working on various stag-es of community assessment, and additional towns are in line for technical assistance starting in July of 2021.
The Ware Livable Community Survey is at https://tinyurl.com/AFWareSurvey and will be posted on the Ware COA website, or you can receive a hard copy of the survey by calling the COA at 413-967-9645 x501 or picking up a copy at the Library or Senior Center. All respondents may enter a drawing to receive a gift card from the Big Y and other local establishments. For more information on the Age & Dementia Friendly Community effort, contact Becky Basch at [email protected]. Surveys must be completed /returned by July 30, 2021.
