A number of years ago I read a cute story that was circulating on the internet. It's about a little five-year-old boy named Timmy. Timmy's Mom loved him very much and, being a worrier, she was concerned about him walking to school when he started kindergarten. She walked him to school the first couple of days, but when he came home one day, he told his mother that he did not want her walking him to school every day. He wanted to be like the "big boys." He protested loudly, so she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor, Mrs. Goodnest, if she would surreptitiously follow her son to school, at a distance behind him that he would not likely notice, but close enough to keep a watch on him. Mrs. Goodnest said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed. The next school day, Mrs. Goodnest and her little girl, Marcy, set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor boy he knew. She did this for the whole week. As the boys walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, the little friend of Timmy noticed that this same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally, he said to Timmy, "Have you noticed that lady following us all week? Do you know her?" Timmy nonchalantly replied, "Yea, I know who she is." The little friend said, "Well who is she?" "That's just Shirley Goodnest" Timmy said. "Shirley Goodnest? Who the heck is she and why is she following us?" "Well," Timmy explained, "every night my Mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers cuz she worries about me so much. And in it, the psalm says, ‘Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life.' So I guess I'll just have to get used to it.” The summer is flying by. Where did June go? I hope you are getting some rest and relaxation this summer and enjoying God’s beautiful creation, whether you take a trip somewhere or relax at home. Whatever you do and wherever you go, don’t take a vacation from God. We need God’s guidance throughout our entire lives, in the good times and in the bad, for our children and for ourselves. If we want goodness and mercy to follow us, then we need to be sure that the Lord is leading us. If the Lord is leading us, then goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives.…And we’ll just have to get used to it. God’s blessings, Pastor Cindy Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long.

Summer Day Camp is July 18 - 21. We will be starting at 12:30 and ending at 5:30. Summer Day camp is for kids completing grades K-5. Older youth are welcome to be volunteers for the younger kids. They will need to have lunch before they arrive. We will feed the kids a snack in the middle of the afternoon. A meal for campers and their families will be held on Wednesday, July 20 at 5:00 pm followed by campers singing during the 6:00 pm worship. Please mark your calendars now so your kids can join us for a fun week! Registration forms are available at the church office or on the church website. Cost is $10 per child with a family maximum of $25. Please return registrations as soon as possible. Remember Day Camp is open to all children. Also let me know if any older youth can volunteer.
Mission Trip 2016 is Finally Here!
The time has come for our Mission 2016 Trip to Cincinnati, OH. On Sunday, July 17
the youth will attend the worship service at 9 am for a service of sending. Following the
sending, the youth and their parents will have a very important meeting in the church
Fellowship Hall. Please bring the completed forms that were mailed to you earlier along with a copy of
both sides of you insurance card.
On Saturday, July 23 the Youth Mission Trip will leave for Cincinnati and return on Friday, July 29.
The 18 youth and 5 adult chaperones wish once again to thank the congregation for its generous support of the
mission trip. It is only through your financial and prayer support that such a great program can continue to
happen. Please keep us in your prayers as we do God’s work in this way.
The youth will have a Mission Trip Sharing service on Sunday, August 28 at the 9:00 am service, followed by
the Stewardship Bruch.
Grades 7 & 8 Going to Valleyfair!
On Friday, July 8th, youth who have just finished grades 7 & 8 and one friend per person are
invited to Valleyfair in Shakopee, MN. We will leave at 8 am from the church parking lot and
will arrive home by 11 pm that night. Deadline to sign up and pay the $25 non-refundable cost
is Sunday, July 3rd. We need adults to help drive. Adults who are chaperoning and driving are paid for by the
church. Bring your swimsuit and towel as your admission to Valleyfair also includes admission to Soak City
Waterpark. Those attending will also need to bring their own money for food and refreshments.
Volunteers ARE NEEDED for the LIGHT Education. Please consider helping make a
difference in the lives of our young people. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the church
office at 394-2552 or send an email to [email protected]. We also need people to help with
meals and clean up.

Scrip Cards Are a Great Idea for Back to School Shopping! Are you doing back to school shopping soon? Perhaps you’ll be on the lookout for a sale on the first weekend of August during the tax free weekend in Iowa? If so, please consider purchasing some Scrip Cards. Trinity Youth are
selling all kinds of cards good for clothing, meals, gasoline, home improvement stores and more. You get full purchase
value at the store of your choice and the youth make a percentage of the cards cost paid by the business. Stop by the church office to purchase. Thanks for your help.
Check out the Trinity Library in the Conference Room
for good books to read this summer.
The LIGHT Library is located by the southwest door
of the Education area, facing the parking lot. The
books are kid-related. Take a book and bring it back
for someone else to share.

New Hope Lutheran has been a faithful ELCA presence in the community of Farley for 17 years. The witness and service of its members have had an impact on many in the community and beyond. We are grateful for that witness and service .
. I Unfortunately the hopes that this presence could become a self-sustaining ELCA
congregation were never realized. Recognizing this, the Northeastern Iowa Synod
Council voted on June 11, 2016 to discontinue New Hope as a Synodically Authorized
Worshiping Community as of June 30, 2016.
ELCA Director of Evangelical Mission, the Rev. Dr. Joelle Colville-Hanson, the
Northeastern Iowa Synod Treasurer, Robert Higgins, and The Rev. Steven Ullestad ,
Bishop of the Northeastern Iowa Synod of the ELCA, met with the New Hope
Leadership Team on Monday, June 13, 2016 to share this news.
Closing worship will be held at New Hope Lutheran on Sunday, June 26 at 10:00 am.
Pastor Joelle Colville-Hanson preaching, Bishop Steven Ullestad assisting and
bringing the Closing Litany, with Pastor Arnold Flater presiding.
We acknowledge, with deep appreciation, that many of your congregations have
donated funds to help this mission, particularly with efforts to pay off the building
loan. The Synod Council has voted to sell the building and property in Farley, with
the proceeds of that sale to fund the synod outreach fund. We want you to be
confident that your intentions that these funds be used for outreach will be respected
and that those funds will be used to help with other mission projects in our synod.
We ask for your prayers and support during this time of transition. If you have any
further questions you may contact Pastor Joelle Colville-Hanson at the synod office.
The Rev. Steven L. Ullestad Bishop
