A few members of Mclane Key Club had the honor of attending Clovis North’s PTP Car wash. PTP
is pediatric trauma prevention and it was a great experience to be a part of. At the car wash, we were
able to meet many new members from other schools. It was nice to see many different schools come
together and work as one. At the car wash Mclane helped wash cars and also helped advertising the car
wash by waving our signs around. We hope to be a
part of other service events that are held at other schools.

CLOVIS WEST HIGH
During the month of July, The Clovis West Key Club has been working hard to begin raising funds for the
school year. In order to do this, members came out to help wash cars. The members were highly supportive of
the car washes, and helped provide supplies like towels, sponges, soap, and buckets. Despite the heat that
persisted throughout each and every carwash, the clubbers continued to work hard at both washing cars
thoroughly and holding signs to attract customers.
Overall, the carwash fundraisers have raised over one hundred dollars for the club. This money will contribute to
supporting the club, and lowering certain fees for members. More carwashes will be held throughout the
rest of the summer, and hopefully will continue to be a huge success! Submitted by: Claire Carlson, Clovis West Key Club Bulletin Editor

Runners and walkers from all over the Central Valley came out to celebrate America’s Independence Day by participating in
the Freedom Run. The Freedom Run gives back to the community by funding Tri-This Triathlon Club (a network that promotes health,
fitness, and knowledge for the youth), Candle lighters (an organization that provides support, education, and advocacy for
patients and families dealing with childhood cancer), and Sierra Challenge Express Scholarship Fund (a scholarship that awards five
cross country or track Runners enrolled in a local college). Clovis

West Key Clubbers volunteered to come out at five in the
morning to register participants, cheer on the
runners at the finish line, and hand out medals. The overall
event was a success and it was a great way to begin the Fourth
of July.

BUCHANAN HIGH
On July 14, 2012, Buchanan Key Clubbers went up to Wishon Reservoir to help
Kiwanis run their 16th Annual Special Olympics Fishing Derby. The fishing derby has helped raise funds for Special Olympics for 16 years. There was a great turn-out this
year in both fishers and volunteers. Twice as many key clubbers were able to contribute their time this year than last year. We had a great time camping out overnight, parking
cars, and preparing food with our Kiwanis sponsors. We woke up at 3 AM to help prepare and sell the breakfast burritos and coffee. Later in the day, we grilled,
wrapped, and sold hamburgers and hot dogs, along with bottles of soda and chips. All
profits made were given to the Special Olympics. Volunteering for nearly a whole day, we helped setup on Friday, teardown on Saturday, and everything in between.
