Our pastor had four wisdom teeth cut out this week sowe’re borrowing a post from one of our internationalmissionaries’ blog.

Jesus knew I needed a giraffe

“…my God will supply all your needs according toHis riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

I admit it. The past few weeks have been rough. I’vebeen tired. I’ve been frustrated. And, to be quitehonest, I haven’t liked living here very much. Thingshere that are completely common have been wearingon me. My heart is hurting. I have been so painedover the way things are here, over the difficulties andstruggles of life that really don’t have to be. I’ve feltan utter helplessness for life here, for the sweet peopleI know who work all day, just to keep food in theirbowls, a roof over their heads, and their children inschool. And I have been reminded, more than everbefore, that the only hope for this country is Jesus.

When my four-year-old friend came to my house thisweek he brought me a present. It was a carving of agiraffe. I was thrilled, stunned, and completelyhumbled. I thanked him over and over again beforeI started crying. “Did you know that giraffes are myfavorite animal?” He looked at me, grinned, andnodded. “You told me!”

Jesus knew that I’ve been struggling. He knew thatI’ve been heartsick. He knew that I’ve been grievingover the way life is here. And he knew that I neededto be loved on by my sweet, pint-sized friend. Ineeded to know that, no matter what, I’ve made atleast a small impact on a small person here. He knewwhat I needed. And He made sure I got it—in justthe right way, at just the right time. I have toremember to trust Him. And I have to believe that Heloves my friends here more than I ever could.

Editors Note: Pray for God to encourage themissionaries when they are discouraged. Pray forHim to comfort them when they are feeling helpless. Pray that He will use them in a mighty way to impacttheir neighborhoods for Christ.

News from afar

Editor’s note: Over 25 years ago, Arlane and GearyHowell lived in Byromville and were members ofBBC. Arlane along with Angie Lockerman Burtonbegan our Children’s Church. Suzy Granthamtracked them down on Facebook and received thefollowing email from them.

We have wonderful memories of you all. We lastvisited Byromville about ten years ago on Mother'sDay Sunday. We have six children. Sonny (30) andRaynee (27) are the two you may remember. Wemoved to Mississippi and had Harry (23), John (20),Polley (17), and Samuel (15).

Raynee is an auditor for the Defense Department. Sheand her husband Andrew are parents of ourgranddaughter Nadia Margaret. They live inLouisville, Kentucky. Sonny, a high school biologyteacher and cross country coach, lives in Clinton, MSwith his wife Lindsey, and they are expecting twinboys in the early fall.

We have lived near Tuscaloosa, AL and now live inTullahoma, TN. I stayed at home with my childrenfor over 20 years and then three years ago re-enteredthe workforce as an RN. We homeschooled all thechildren which worked out well for our family.

So many people were so kind to us and impacted ourlives in a special way during our younger years livingin your community. Your daddy [Lewis Burnam]fixed our broken pipes for the cost of the parts thefirst winter we lived in that big old house. Thanks forthe e-mail and the opportunity to share.

Jill and Rhonda will kisscow at The Last RoundupVBS Director Jill Brannen and her assistant RhondaYoungblood will have to kiss a cow because the boysout gave the girls at this year’s Vacation BibleSchool. The boys gave $242.41 while the girlscontributed $148.46. If the girls had given the most, our pastor Andy Blankenship would be facing thesame fate as Jill and Rhonda.

The offerings will go to the West Virginia missiontrip in July and an upcoming trip to Moldova toconduct a youth camp.

Details about The Last Roundup on July 25 will beforthcoming.
