Lilies are probably the second mostprevalent plant toxicity in this area.SeveraltypesofLiliesaretoxic,withtheprincipal ones being Easter Lilies,TigerLilies, Stargazer Lilies, Peace Lilies andDayLilies. It canbe a slowprocess,and you must take time every day towork with your dog. Do not consoleyour dog when he is fearful. Instead,distract him with something like play.Hewillbesobusyplayingthathemaynotevenhearthethunder.Youmayalsowanttouseasoundtrackofstormnoises,firecrackers, car backfiring or other sharp sounds.Playthetapeatalowlevelandsimultaneouslydistracthimbykeepinghimfocusedonplay,onyouoronanotheractivity.Overtime,increasethevolumeof the recording. Repeat this processuntilyourdoghasbecomeaccustomedtothenoises.

Dogs have varying reactions to loudnoises. Some may tear up the house,others may try to hide or run from thescary sounds, while others seem justfine.
Ifyourdogappearsfearfulofclamoringsounds, check with your vet. Somedog’searsaresosensitivethatthenoisyclapping of thunder may actually hurttheir ears. If a dog is somewhat deaf,these sounds may also cause adversereactions.Yourvetalsocanhelpifyourpupneedsasedativetocalmhimduringanoisystormorexplosivecelebrationsofthe4thofJuly.AlsocheckwithyourvetaboutusingBachRescueRemedyifasedativeisnotappropriate.
Sinceyouarenotalwayshomewhenstorms hit, you will want to set up anareaforyourdoginwhichhefeelssafe.Crate trainingyourdogoffershim thatsafehaven.Heshouldbeabletoaccessthedesignatedrefugewheneveryouarenotathome.
Some dogs react to an approachingstorm long before it even reaches thearea. It is as though that the dog isreactingtothesoundofthunderfromthedistanced storm. Thedog,however, isactuallyreactingtothepresenceofstaticelectricityintheatmosphere(ashappenswiththedropofbarometricpressurepriortoastorm).
Thesedogsneedtothegrounded.Ananti-staticmatcanbeplacedinorunderthedog’skennel.Thekennelshouldbesituatedinawaythatthedogthinksithasenteredthehouse.Thekennelshouldbesoundproofedwithrubber-backedcarpetwithanextrapieceofcarpetacrosstheopening to create a flap that closes after thedogenters.
