If you have not ordered the nove-na booklets and would like to pray it with us, please contact Bonnie Brous-sard at (337) 937-5697. The agenda has been finalized and requires RSVPS. On the final day of the novena, July 26th all members are invited to attend Mass at St. John the Evangelist Cathedral in honor of the Centennial year of our Diocese. The tour cost is $3.00 for ages 60 & younger and $2.00 for ages 60 & older. The deadline for the RSVP is July 10. To RSVP contact Bonnie Broussard at the number listed above.

To the Heights: Young Adult Encounter The encounter will focus on forming Mission Driven Young Adult Disciples. Our goal is to walk with young adults in and throughout the Lafayette area letting them know that we welcome, honor, and empower them to succeed. Young Adults make huge decisions in their lives. These decisions can be frightening so our day will be centered on keynote speakers ranging from Fr. Howard Blessing, pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Katie Austin for-mation director for Ragin Cajun Catholics, Dustin Bertrand with God Made Self Driven Ministries bringing his gifts and talents, Kyle Melancon Youth and Young Adult Discipleship Coordinator for Holy Cross, and Julien Dupuis. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @HolyCrossYADA.

Fete-Dieu du Vermillion We are looking for young ladies ages 5-22 to be Flower Maidens for the Fete Dieu du Vermilion, a Eucharistic Pro-cession down the Vermillion River on August 15th celebrat-ing the Diocese Centennial. We ask that they wear a white dress with at least a cap sleeve, a white chapel veil (we can provide one if necessary), and provide their own bas-

ket with fresh rose petals (we can provide if necessary). Any young ladies under age 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. We will have a meeting with all Flower Maidens and their parents prior to the event. For more information or to sign up, contact Miranda Kidder at 337-441-9355.

Called to Serve _______________________ WEEKEND OF JULY 21 - 22, 2018

Centennial News Sunday, July 15, 2018

Pope Chooses Lafayette’s First Bishop - On July 18, 1918 the Archdiocese of New Orleans received an important letter from Pope Benedict XV. The Holy Father signed the order appointing Jules B. Jeanmard as the first Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette on July 4, 1918. The Pope had created the Diocese almost 6 months earlier on January 11th, but no Bishop had been named. Many suspected that Fr. Teurlings may have been named bishop, but the 38 year old native of Breaux Bridge was chosen. Jeanmard was shocked to receive the news, and wrote to a friend proclaiming: “I am still hoping against hope that it may not be true… Poor Lafayette is getting a sorry specimen for its first shep-herd.” National Association of Catholic Family Life Ministries – in this Centennial Year, the Diocese of Lafayette is happy to host a na-tional Marriage and Family Conference – July 15-17 at the Cajun-dome Convention Center. Please pray for the holiness of marriage and family and the success of this conference happening this week. August 15 – get your boat and join the procession - Fete Dieu de Vermilion – our Eucharistic Adoration will be on the Vermilion River this year beginning in Abbeville at St. Mary Magdalen with a Mass in French at 8am. The river procession will begin after with a Ro-sary and Benediction in Milton @11;35 @Wawees, then a Rosary and Benediction at River Ranch @1:40 @Rufinno’s, then a foot procession @ 3:45pm from Beaver Park to Cathedral up University St. to the Cathedral – Vespers at 5pm and Mass at 5:30 with Bish-op Deshotel. Having 121 Church Parishes in our Diocese we would like to have at least 1 boat from each parish. To register, please visit www.fetedieuduteche.org or call 337-349-6550. This is an extraordinary event and we ask that you please consider being a part of the 121 boats.
