...and a big thank you to those of you who have shown your
support following the fire at the Assembly Rooms that has resulted
in the closure of the venue for at least 18 months. As they say in
the business, ‘the show must go on’ and we have been working hard
to re-home or re-schedule as many events as possible, as well as
ensuring we have a great programme of LIVE performances, events and
festivals for the coming season.
There’s plenty to see and do as we make our way into summer,
kicking off with 10 days filled with funny from the first Derby
Comedy Festival this June. The annual CAMRA Beer Festival moves
onto the Market Place and we have drama in the Guildhall Theatre,
as well as music, comedy and more at The Silk Mill, The Spot, Derby
Cathedral and Robert Ludlam Theatre. If you’re looking for
something to keep the kids occupied, then why not book for the
Summer Theatre School – a week-long series of workshops for those
aged 8 – 16.
We’re also excited to be able to bring you a huge selection of
outdoor events, from our Farmers’ Markets, Arts & Craft Fair
and Italian Market to an evening of classical music and fireworks
at The Darley Park Concert and the spectacular two day extravaganza
of live performance that is Derby Festé.

Assembly Rooms update...
Work on Derby Arena is coming along well with completion
scheduled for November 2014. As well as being a fantastic space for
sport and physical activity the Arena will be a venue for cultural
events, exhibitions, product launches and conferences.
For up to date information visit
www.derby.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/sports-clubs-and-centres/
Derby Arena coming soon…
Following the fire at the Assembly Rooms on Friday 14 March, the
Council confirmed it will be closed for a minimum of 18 months.
Chief Executive, Adam Wilkinson has said “The Council is
committed to a significant cultural facility in the city centre but
due to the on-going assessment of damage after the fire, it has
become clear we cannot re-open the building as quickly as we would
like. We are continuing to work through the various options open to
us, based on either refurbishing or replacing the current
building.”
We’re still exploring opportunities to move some events to other
venues and are pleased to confirm that both the Derby Comedy
Festival and Derby Folk Festival will be going ahead.
Our Box Office staff have been working through customer refunds
in date order of event and we’d like to thank all of you for your
patience and understanding.
All other scheduled Derby LIVE events in the Guildhall Theatre,
on the Market Place and other outdoor spaces, are going ahead as
planned. The Box Office and Tourist Information Centre are also
open as usual.
We hope to be able to hold this
year’s pantomime at an alternative venue in the city and will
be
in touch with customers as soon as we know more.
