The Townhouse

Urbanisation La Cortijera

2 Juanar Villas Malaga 29649 Mijas Costa Espana

La Cortijera

La Cortijera is a small, traditional urbanisation on the edge of La Cala de Mijas, only a few minutes’ walk to the town centre for shops, restaurants and bars, and of course, the beach. Set on the hillside overlooking La Cala beach, the Mediterranean to one side and the mountains behind, the views are breath-taking.

La Cala De Mijas

La Cala beach is a 5 minute walk from the house. There is a beautiful, long, well cared for, golden, sandy beach, great for swimming and paddling. It is usually relatively quiet compared with the larger resorts nearby and there are plenty of sunbeds to hire, beach showers, climbing frames for children and an abundance of beach bars and restaurants. July and August do get quite busy

.Mijas Costa The village of La Cala (de Mijas) is the central point of Mijas Costa and still maintains something of its “Andalucian village by the sea” atmosphere as it was originally a tiny fishing village There is a very popular street market ('el barratillo') every Wednesday and Saturday from around 09:00 - 14:30. The market stalls offer everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to local crafts, clothes, ceramics and pottery, flowers and plants and lots more. Some wonderful restaurants and fine dining can be found around town or overlooking the sea. There are also great beach bars where Spanish families gather at the weekends for long lunches of tapas or fresh barbequed sardines - and the cold beer tastes especially good!

Nearby Places to Visit

Mijas Pueblo (20 min drive)

Nestled amongst the mountains directly above the Mijas coast is Mijas Pueblo (Old Mijas). This traditional white village is reached through a changing landscape of urbanisations, pine groves and hills.

Mijas Pueblo displays a typical Andalusian charm; immaculate whitewashed buildings, hilly cobbled streets, beautiful churches and wrought iron balconies with flower pots of cascading red geraniums.

Owing to the magnificent views over the surrounding mountain range, many of the upper-end restaurants in Mijas offer al fresco dining from panoramic roof terraces.

Gibraltar Approx 1 hrs drive away, this is a good day out with lots to see and do; the Rock, cable car, caves, wartime tunnels,

Barbary Apes (the only free-living monkeys in Europe today), duty free goods, English-name shops. If you don’t want to drive you can arrange a trip with LCS Management Services whose offices are a short stroll through the urbanisation. Short boat trips can be arranged to see dolphins and whales close-up, or you can visit Morocco for the day.

Ronda Further up in the mountains, a 45 minute breathtaking drive away, you can experience one of the most beautiful and most visited cities in Spain (the third most visited city in Andalucia).

Surrounded by lush river valleys and sitting above a deep ravine, it is a place that literally takes your breath away when seeing it. If you are a nervous driver, don’t attempt the mountain drive!

Marbella and Puerto Banus Home to the rich and famous and ideal for a day of people watching, Marbella has a lovely shopping and historic area centred on Orange Square.

In the square itself there are some excellent restaurants with a variety of fine dining options to tempt the palette and to sit amongst the orange trees at night with the wonderful aromas and twinkling lights is worth the extra few Euros.

Puerto Banus is a luxurious and cosmopolitan resort and the marina with its mega-yachts and celebrities is a 'must' place to visit. The beaches have exquisite white sand and there is a wide array of expensive bars, restaurants and designer shops for you to enjoy.
