Kerosene LanternsPoster22 x 26”
The lower part of the wick dips into the fount and absorbs the kerosene; the top part of the wick extends out of the wick tube of the lamp burner, which includes a wick-adjustment mechanism. When the lamp is lit, the kerosene that the wick has absorbed burns and produces a clear, bright, yellow flame.
The tubes allow air to flow from the top of the lantern down to the bottom where the flame is fed oxygen.
The globe lift allows you to access the top of the fount and the main burner.
The fount or gas tank holds the fuel which is absorbed into the wick.
The wick adjust allows you to increase or decrease the length of the wick
The air chamber allows oxygen to reach the flame.
The globe guard holds the globe securely when the lantern is in use. It also protects the globe when it is thrown back for cleaning or wick trimming.

HOT-BLAST LANTERN
DEAD-FLAME LANTERN
A cold-blast lantern is a tubular lantern that takes in fresh, cool air into its tubes. The cool air travels through the tubes and directly to the flame. The clean air feeds the flame with oxygen which causes the flame to burn bright. The cold-blast lantern is the brightest and most efficient kerosene lantern.
A hot-blast lantern is a tubular lantern that permits a small portion of the used air to recirculate through it. Even though it takes in fresh air as well, cold-blast lanterns burn almost
twice as bright as hot-blast lanterns.
Dead-flame lanterns take in fresh air through the baffles at bottom and expel used air at the top.
The globe protects the flame from wind and rain. It also enhances the thermally induced draft that creates a smokeless light that is brighter than any open flame.
Flat wick lamps should only be used with kerosene or lamp oil. Other oils may
produce additional smoke and odors.
A kerosene lantern, also known as a "barn lantern" or "hurricane lantern," is a flat-wick lamp made for portable and outdoor use. They are made of soldered or crimped-together sheet metal stampings, with tin-plated sheet steel being the most common material, followed by brass and copper. There are three types: dead flame, hot blast, and cold blast. Both hot blast and cold blast designs are called tubular lanterns and are safer than dead flame lamps as tipping over a tubular lantern cuts off the oxygen flow to the burner and will extinguish the flame within seconds.

László Moholy-Nagy was a Hungarian painter, photographer, typographer, and industrial designer who taught at the Bauhaus in the 1920s. He was an advocate for the integration of industry and technology into the arts and was greatly influenced by Constructivism. He believed photography created a new way of seeing the outside world that the human eye could not. Perhaps his most famous creation was the Light-Space Modulator, completed in 1930, which revolutionized lighting effects for plays and performances.
