    Welcome To The Joyce Theater

    Since 1982, The Joyce has provided an intimate home

    or dance, and, ater more than 29 years, we are still

    devoted to making your dance experience a delightul one.

    I am particularly excited about this season, which presentseclectic international companies and encompasses

    a abulous range o dance artists and styles.

    The season begins with Israel Galvn and Soledad Barrio

    & Noche Flamenca, powerul lamenco artists rom Spain.

    The international ocus then turns to Australia, with terriic

    perormances by Chunky Move and Sydney Dance

    Company, and, in late January, we close with Jin Xing

    Dance Theatre Shanghai, perorming Shanghai Tango,

    a piece choreographed by the provocative Jin Xing.

    Two o our countrys oremost ballet companies are also

    on tap. Houston Ballet, the irst recipient o The Joyces

    Rudol Nureyev Prize or New Dance, an award oering

    commissioning grants to deserving companies, will perorm

    a program that includes a new work by Jorma Elo.

    And The Suzanne Farrell Ballet will make its Joyce debutwith an elegant all-Balanchine program.

    Audience avorites rom the contemporary dance world

    are eatured as well, with perormances by MOMIX,

    Garth Fagan Dance, Complexions Contemporary Ballet,

    and Parsons Dance on the roster. FOCUS DANCE, a new

    dance platorm, presents eight companies perorming

    throughout one week, and David Dorman Dance and

    Camille A. Brown & Dancers take the Joyce stage, too.

    An exciting part o the season will be its emphasis on

    dramatic work. Morphoses will make its Joyce debut with

    Bacchae, a dance-driven piece based on the classic

    Greek drama, and the always intriguing Martha Clarke

    will presentAngel Reapers, an evening-length

    dance/theater/music piece.
