Leader of Material Properties effort, December 2011 - present Leader of Major Technical Effort 4.1, June 2001 – October 2011 Responsibilities include the design of short wavelength lasers and the study of nonequilibrium radiation phenomena, atomic physics, high temperature plasmas, inertial confinement fusion capsules, and nonlinear optics. Invented and demonstrated the world's shortest wavelength, highest energy laser. Showed effect of hyperfine splitting on X-ray laser performance. Developed prepulse and multipulse techniques which have resulted in the demonstration of many new low-Z neon-like and nickel-like X-ray lasers that never lased using standard laser techniques. June 1982-present.
