Lafleche riding Held different offices through-out his

career before becoming a Prime Minister

Ran for leadership of the Liberal Party multiple times

First election as leader of the Liberals was the 1993 election

Main election promise was to cut government spending

1998 was first surplus Canada had had in 25 years

Next issue was Quebec Separatism

Won both elections with a majority government

Government cuts had effected some areas so money was put back into those areas during these terms

Nunavut became an official territory Created new underage criminal laws American relations became important

in his last term

Stepped down December 12, 2003 Paul Martin stepped in
