DEVELOPING SCHOOL’S WEBSITE USING JOOMLA

Installing Web server using easyPHP.

1. First, download and install easyPhp. You can download it from http://www.easyphp.org/index.php. There are different versions available for different operating systems such as Windows XP, Vista, Linux, Mac, Solaris etc. Select the one according to your operating system.

2. To start easyPHP’s Apache server and Mysql, double click easyPHP icon, then click on the start buttons for Apache and MySQL.

3. Click on Administrator and set MySQL database at myphpadmin menu. Click mysql manager.

4. Then create a new database. Name it as ‘joomla15’.

5. Then go to Privileges menu to add new user. Create a user as following:

Username = admin

Host = localhost

Password = root

For Global Setting, click ‘Check all’.

6. Now you are going to set up Joomla. Download Joomla at http://www.joomla.org/download.html, after completing the download, unzip the zip files into the “joomla15” directory that you already create, and copy the folder to C:\program Files\EasyPHP3.0\www\

7. Then go to http://localhost/joomla15. Select your language on step 1 and press “Next” at the top.

8. To configure database connection, choose database type = mysql, hostname = localhost, username = admin, password = root, database = joomla15.

9. In FTP Configuration window, click next.

10. Then name your site as ‘Sekolah’, enter your email and set the adminpassword as ‘root’.

11. Before you can view your Joomla website you must delete installation folder

12. Congratulation! You have finished Joomla setup. This is how your homepage will look for now.

13. Go to the administrative back-end of the site by pointing your browser to http://localhost/joom15/administrator/ or “sitename/administrator if you have installed Joomla in a different path.

Adding New User

14. Click the ‘New’ button, and the User Details window will appear.

15. Fill the User Details fields. Set the User’s group accordingly.

Creating New Article

16. Click New button then insert Title = Sejarah Sekolah, Alias = Sejarah, Section = uncategorized, then type the article.

Uploading Images

17. Click the Image button. The following window will appear.

18. Click ‘Browse’ button and then select photo and click ‘Start Upload’ button.

19. Type in the Image URL, Image Description and Title:

20. If you want to display caption, check the Caption box then click Insert button.

21. To change the image size, click on the image and click and drag the anchor point to your desired size.

22. Click Apply > Save. To preview your Image, click Preview button.

Creating a New Menu

23. Click Extensions > Module Manager > New button to add new article. Type Unique Name= Main Menu Title=main menu.

Adding Sub Menu in Menu

24. Click Menus > New button. Type Unique Name= Main Menu Title=main menu. Then go to Main menu.

25. Then click new button select article layout if you want to link the article page

26. Type Title= Sejarah , Alias= Sejarah click select button at parameter.

27. Chose Sejarah Sekolah article then apply.

Adding Poll

28. To create poll, click Components menu then New button. Then type title= Adakah Jomla susah, Alias=undijoomla, option 1=sangat susah, option 2= susah, option 3=serdehana, option 4= senang, option 5 =sangat senang.

29. Save it by clicking the Save button.

30. Go to module manager, and add module, type title = Mari undi, Position=right, choose poll Adakah Joomla susah.

Applying Web Template

31. Go to http://www.siteground.com/joomla-hosting/joomla-templates.htm .

32. To add Components, modules, plugins, languanges and templates, click Extension > Browse > Upload > Install. Your can get new extension from http://www.siteground.com/joomla_addons.htm. To use new extension, for example template, click Extensions > Template.

33. Choose the template you want and then click Default.
