From the Rabbi’s Study

And so the United States embassy in Israel is now lo-

cated in Jerusalem. From my standpoint it’s about

time! When Israel became an independent nation in

1948, The United States was the first among the na-

tions of the free world to formally recognize the Jewish

State but our embassy was to be located in Tel Aviv for

“safety.” Other countries wishing to install an embassy

in Israel followed the U.S. move and located their em-

bassies in Tel Aviv as well.

Since the presidency of Lyndon Johnson, we have

agreed to move our embassy to Jerusalem but nothing

has ever come of these agreements until now. The

United States has always located their embassies in

the capitals of other countries. Why was Israel singled

out to be different? Was there a question as to Jeru-

salem’s capital status? Was it for “security?” Did we

knuckle under to pressure put upon us by the Arab

countries surrounding the new country? I have no

definitive answer to any of these questions but it was

likely a combination of all these and several other fac-

tors.

So now the United States is forging a new approach to

policies of Israel and the Middle East and as much as I

hate to admit it, President Trump gets an ‘atta boy’

from me for standing up to pressure from the Arabs

and doing the right thing. The biggest political bully in

the sandbox has accomplished something good for

both Israel and the United States. He successfully did

what no other United States leader over the last 70

years could do - he moved our embassy to the estab-

lished capital of the only free nation in the Middle East.

The Hamas protests in Gaza and elsewhere sadden me

a great deal. The loss of life in these actions are awful

and I pray the Arab communities in the Middle East will

cease their shouting and rock throwing and instead

agree to finally come to a peace table and work hard

to settle their issues with their own people and with

agement, the Palestinian societies are no further

ahead then they were when the partition was first

created. This is not Israel’s fault. The fault lies di-

rectly at the feet of the Palestinian leadership. Israel

has progressed and has become a recognized world

power while most of the Palestinians languish close to

poverty in a country that is not really a country.

It is going to take a great deal of patience and hard

work to create a peaceful Middle East but it can be

done. If Trump can get North Korea to change its

ways and agree to live in peace with South Korea and

the rest of its neighbors, a viable peace settlement in

the Middle East can surely by accomplished. Maybe

our current President can bully the Middle East antag-

onists to the table and create a new lasting peace. I

pray that will happen in our time soon.

The “Little Bit of This & Little Bit of That” Sabbath

dinner was a great success and next year it may

come back again.

The picnic is coming and we need RSVP’s so we have

not too little & not too much food. So please call the

office and give them a count, if you’re hopefully join-

ing us. It’s always a great time, so please come and

join us; it’s good food, fun, and it’s free!!

We just enjoyed Mother’s Day and hopefully all en-

joyed. We wish all mothers our best and thank them

for their sacrifices, their mentoring, and their patience

and love.

Proverbs states “Instruct a wise man, and he will

grow wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will gain

in learning”. Lunch & Learn, Sunday School Isn’t Just

for Children, and our Current Events Discussion Group

help lead us to be more righteous and instill

knowledge to help us grow. So please mark them on

your calendar. You will enjoy and learn.
