“Empowered citizens and resilient local communities with access to safe water and

sanitation systems, live healthy and productive lives.”

Joint Programme Outcome:

Page 20: JOINT PROGRAMME ON PRO WATER - iwash.gov.ph

JP Outcome: Empowered citizens and resilient local communities with access to safe water and sanitation systems live healthy and productive lives.

At least 5% increase in participation of women and girls in planning, decision-making, monitoring and implementation of watsan projects and program;

At least 5% reduction on incidence of water-borne diseases and practice of "open defecation" in target municipalities based on increased access to water services, improved sanitation and advocacy campaigns on hygiene.

Updates on the JP implementation:

Page 26: JOINT PROGRAMME ON PRO WATER - iwash.gov.ph

Increased participation among women (and girls):

From the baseline of 229 (2014),

2,978 women (and girls) have participated in meetings/consultations, workshops, trainings, planning, (water) monitoring, CO/SP activities and other related capacity development assistance on WASH under the programme.

LGU staff/functionaries, community members, DILG (regional/municipal/provincial) staff, WASH taskforce/sanitation groups, members of the Regional WATSAN Hubs

Page 27: JOINT PROGRAMME ON PRO WATER - iwash.gov.ph

Reduction on incidence of water-borne diseases and practice of "open defecation

Northern Samar, health & sanitation data:

A significant drop in cases of water-borne diseases in 2016 (can be) attributed

to the programme’s:

provision of water quality testing kits in the latter part of 20150-1st Q 2016 that revealed contamination of drinking water sources in majority of the barangays;

implementation of related ZOD programs in the region;

community actions have been taken by the LGU in informing affected communities of the contamination and what actions can be done by the HH e.g. boiling if water, distribution of aqua tabs, disinfection of water sources,

among others.

Page 29: JOINT PROGRAMME ON PRO WATER - iwash.gov.ph

TARGET: At least 12 barangays are ZOD certified

Region 8 (Mapanas, Northern Samar)

• 4 barangays in the LGU are actively implementing CLTS where 80%-100% of the HHs have already constructed

• temporary/makeshift sanitation facilities and are set to be declared ZOD by the end of 2016. In Masbate Region, four (4) barangays are already ZOD certified (G1) and 1 barangay is certified as G2 (See matrix below). Similar data on reduced water-borne cases and ZOD certifications are continuously being validated in other LGUs, and will be made available by January 2017.

Region 5 (Masbate)

• 4 LGUs are G1 certified; 1 LGU G2
