economics

education management
public health
philosophy

What? Where? Why?
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
and Open Society Foundations sponsor
a joint scholarship program for
graduate students in the Balkans, in the Ukraine, Moldova,
Transcaucasia and Central Asian countries.
Objectives are:
•improvement of the framework for teaching and research in the humanities and social sciences in the region
•promoting the network-building among the participants and German academics as a basis for further international exchange activities.

How much?
The scholarship installments are:•for students in Master courses: 750.- euros per month,•for doctoral students: 1.000.- euros per month.
Also will be refunded •travel costs for all scholarships holders •and, where necessary and planned, the costs for language courses in Germany before scholarship.
The program does not provide for the payment of family allowances or supplements for spouses or children.

What else to know?
• A special orientation seminar is arranged for all participants at the beginning of their study in Germany.
• Additionally, all participants in this program attend once a year an annual conference jointly organized by the DAAD and the OSI as part of their training in Germany.

A mentor is provided to groups of more than 3 DAAD/OSI Master scholarship holders at the same German University.

• Applicants must hold a second (graduate) academic degree, as a rule, the Master's. In individual cases, candidates may also be admitted who hold the Diplom after five years of study.
• When applying, all doctoral candidates must prove that they are already in contact with a possible German academic supervisor. Applications for structured German PhD programs in the above-mentioned subject areas are also welcomed.

Participating Master programs applied to be part of the DAAD/OSI exchange program thus demonstrating strong desire to admit students from the participating region
For applicants fulfilling the admission requirements university admission is easier than for other programs
The program hires special tutors for the supervision in the Master Programs
Scholarship holders and Alumni of the program are part of a network which is supported by two of the most important scholarship organisations worldwide
