• Education is a fundamental human right and the foundation for human fulfilment, peace, sustainable development, economic growth, decent work, gender equality and responsible global citizenship.

• Education for All (EFA) coordinated by UNESCO since 1990, and education-related MDGs have yielded unprecedented progress and need to be continued in the post 2015 agenda.

• Education for sustainable development and global citizenship and the appreciation for cultural diversity is integral part of it.

• Science is critical to eradicate poverty and ensure sustainable development. It must be mobilized at multiple scales, across disciplines and knowledge systems to ensure sustainable development and the implementation of SDGs.

• The post-2015 decision-making needs to rely on a strong science-policy interface as a means to manage and mobilize scientific as well as local and indigenous knowledge systems to identify and implement solutions, to effectively use large datasets, to fill data gaps, to improve knowledge management, and to monitor progresses towards SD.

• Culture is an essential component of human development. It represents a source of identity, innovation and creativity.

• Culture is an important factor for social inclusion and poverty eradication, providing for sustainable economic growth and job creation, economic resilience and sustainable use of resources as well as sustainable tourism.

• Culture further reinforces the ownership of development policies and effectiveness in their implementation.

• Mobilizing the power of culture – through cultural and natural heritage and creative industries – can catalyze transformative change.
