Why Barcamp Nonprofits?
During the Institute of Fundraising National Convention 2010 Howard Lake, Steve Bridger and Sylwia Presley shared their insights on the current state of social media for 3rd sector in the UK.
It became apparent that there is a huge gap between developments in social media and ways nonprofits adapt new technologies in their activities. Barcamp Nonprofits aims to provide a bridge between the two industries!
Why barcamp?
We think that barcamp, or ‘un-conference’ is a great, tested format for events aiming to bring people together around various topics in very informal, supportive and collaborative environment.
What is a barcamp?
“Barcamp is an ad-hoc unconference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment” (http://barcamp.org/)
Barcamp allows everyone to contribute, network and promote their ideas.
Rules of a barcamp?
1st Rule: You do talk about BarCamp.
2nd Rule: You do blog about BarCamp.
3rd Rule: If you want to present, you must write your topic and name in a presentaAon slot.
4th Rule: Only three word intros.
5th Rule: As many presentaAons at a Ame as faciliAes allow for.
6th Rule: No pre-‐scheduled presentaAons, no tourists.
7th Rule: PresentaAons will go on as long as they have to or unAl they run into another presentaAon slot. 8th Rule: If this is your first Ame at BarCamp, you HAVE to present. (Ok, you don't really HAVE to, but try to find someone to present with, or at least ask quesAons and be an interacAve parAcipant.)
