Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord,Welcome to Sacred Heart Church!
I rejoice in your presence with our worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time. You bless us through your presence
and prayerful participation. I pray this sacred time nourishes your faith and lifts your spirit. Thanks for joining us! Jeremiah, in today’s First Reading, gives a sermon that could be described as “fire and brimstone.” Jeremiah is berating the monarchs, “Woe to the shepherds who mislead and scatter the flock.” “You have not cared for them,” says Jeremiah. Because the people have not been cared for, the shepherds will be punished for their “evil deeds.” There will be consequence for scattering the sheep and driving them away. In today’s world, the “shepherds,” the monarchs, are those who have a responsibility to care and lead others. The failures of politicians, priests, corporate executives, public servants, educators, etc. are similar to failures Jeremiah addresses with the leaders of Israel. Like Jeremiah, we pray for, long for, shepherds who foster justice and care for people. In some way, each one of us has a responsibility towards others. As parent, coach, scout master, employer, health professional, etc., we are called to be good shepherds who are wise in caring for the sheep of their pasture. We are called to “do what is just and right” in our relationship with our sheep, those who look up to us, those who look for wisdom and guidance in the
way we live as good shepherds. May Christ, the Good Shepherd, guide us in our role of caring for others.Peace be with you! God bless,
Fr. McKee

“Yes, Lord, send me.” As you might know there is a great urgency to continue to pass on the truths and traditions of our Catholic faith to the next generation. I enjoy sitting near families at Mass. It is a front row seat to all that parents do to pass on the faith to their children. As a community of faith each one of us also has a responsibility and calling to do what we can to evangelize, to catechize and to teach the next generation. It is true that life is busy and that some of us do not have the gifts to teach little ones but I can assure that your ministry as a catechist will be a blessing. If you think you have the gifts to share your faith with children or middle schoolers please call Sister Kathy (610)449-3000 or e-mail her at [email protected].
