GIVING TREE
All gifts are due back this weekend. Please attach the ornament securely on the gift. The gifts will be distributed first thing Monday morning. As always, thank you for your continued generosity! Without your support and kindness, none of this would be possible.
On Thursday, December 19 in McCaffrey Hall; doors open at 5:00pm and
games start at 6:45pm. Team #4
RCIA—Adult Catechism classes will meet on Wednes-days at 7:00pm. If you or someone you know would like to become Catholic, please speak with or email Fr. Giacona at [email protected].
Please join us in praying the Rosary every Sunday at 7:30am, before the 8:00am Mass.
Now that the doors between the narthex and the church proper are in, and the narthex is wired for sound, it can serve one of its intended purposes – namely, a place for parents with small children who may need a respite during Mass. That means that everyone else should be inside the church for Mass. Think of the narthex the same way you would the front hall of a home; you wouldn’t hang out in the hall for a fine meal that’s rightly enjoyed in the dining room. If you’d like a scriptural parallel, read Matthew 22:1-14. Along the same lines: before the lavatory is completely up and running, watch this space for “catechesis of the comfort station.” Faithfully your priest, Fr. George Hafemann
St. John School will present its CHRISTMAS CONCERT this Wednesday, December 18 at 6:30pm in McCaffrey Hall. Everyone is welcome!
CALENDARS FOR 2020 are available at the back of the church. They are a generous gift to the parish from the Donovan Funeral Home. Thanks to Joe Donovan, Mark Johnston, Cory Johnston, June Cannariato, and the staff!

Fr. George invites parents of teens (or those on the verge of the teenage years) to one of two gatherings. The first will be on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 7:00pm; the second will be on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 9:00am – both in the Parish House (67 Murray Avenue). The purpose of these informal get-togethers is to share ideas and brainstorm how we can best serve the teens in our parish.
For many years, we have had a high school youth group, which met one Sunday a month. Over the last two years or so, most of our active participants have gone off to college, so this is an ideal time for us to assess what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and how we might do it better or differently.
This is the first in what we envision will be a multi-step process. That’s why we’d like to dialogue with parents, a key group of “stakeholders”; after all, without paren-tal support, we’re stopped before we start. If you’re not able to make either session, Fr. George would be happy to set another time to meet; just say the word.
Mariapolis Luminosa Nativity Display Each Christmas, throughout the month of December, Mariapolis Luminosa in Hyde Park displays over 200 Nativity scenes from 50 countries at the Chiara Lubich Conference Center. The display runs from December 7 through December 29 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Suggested donation: $5 per person. For more infor-mation, go to www.focolare.org/mariapolisluminosa, or call (845) 229-0230, ext. 127.
This year, we’d like to invite everyone in the parish to help prepare our “second home” – the church – for Christmas. In addition to setting up trees, assembling the indoor and outdoor crèches, and placing the poin-settias, certain areas could use a good dusting and straightening up. We will gather on Monday, December 23 at 6:30pm; anyone and everyone is welcome, for as little as long as you’re able to stay. Lest we not enjoy some reward for our labors, we’d also invite each person or family to bring a plate of their favorite Christmas cookies, for sharing afterward. (we’ll make the hot chocolate.) we’ve set up a SignUp Genius, only to be sure we have a minimum number of helpers; it’s available on the parish website, the parish Facebook page, and in Fr. George’s weekly Flocknote.
We have a faithful corps of ushers who assist each week with various tasks at Mass, including the taking of the collection. With Christmas not too far off, we would like to be sure that each of our eight Masses is accounted for. To that end, we’ve set up an additional SignUp Genius at which you can commit to assist, whether you’re a regular usher or not. The link is on the homepage of the par ish websit e (www.sjegoshen.org), as well as on our Facebook page.
