Below we have given you some fundraising ideas to help you, but remember, you can always contact us if you have any questions, need fundraising materials or extra tips.

Thank you for joining our 1 Million Step army and committing to raise funds and taking 1 million steps in 3 months. By the time you finish, you’ll have walked at least 500 miles. That’s 19 marathons. Which is an awesome achievement! Don’t be shy about asking your friends, family and everyone you meet for sponsorship. You deserve it. And remember, your fundraising is vital. Diabetes is the most potentially devastating – and fastest growing – health crisis of our time, requiring ongoing high-quality care and support. As a society we need to work together and take action now to fund critical research, improve healthcare and treatment, and prevent yet more people developing this potentially life-threatening condition.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Head to http://bit.ly/1-million-step-fundraising and create

your JustGiving page.

JustGiving is the safest way for your donors to make quick, online credit/

debit card payments towards your target.

A blank fundraising page doesn’t relay your amazing passion and how

much a donation makes a difference. Let everyone know your story and why you’ve chosen to fundraise for Diabetes UK. Share your unique JustGiving link with everyone you know!

Work it! Use your time at work to clock up more steps - You could have

walking meetings, use the stairs instead of the lift, and get up from your desk to speak to people rather than emailing them (this has the added benefit of improving working relationships too!).

Step social. Clock up some extra mileage with friends – meet up for a walk

and then drinks or a jog and coffee. A night out dancing or off to a festival? Make sure you wear your pedometer and log every step. Join forces for fundraising too, work together to raise funds and clock up mileage.

The next “face” of Diabetes UK?! On average people who add

a photo to their JustGiving page raise 14% more, so make sure you personalise your page with a photo.

Back yourself 100% People are more likely to donate to your page if it has

a target. How much do you think you can fundraise over three months? On average, JustGiving pages with a fundraising target raise up to 40% more than those with no target.

Use your steps. Start walking all or part of the way to work. Make

sure you ditch the car or bus and walk to the shops or jog to your next appointment. Use your steps to help your friends and family – perhaps you could walk their dog or pick up shopping, all for a donation of course! Boost your steps and fundraising at the same time.

FUNDRAISING IDEAS

So, you’ve set up your JustGiving page and sent the link to everyone you know, so that they can sponsor your epic challenge. What else can you do?

Coffee morning or afternoon tea? Think about how you could turn

an everyday get together into a fundraiser. Fancy yourself as a baker or perhaps you know a budding Mary Berry or Paul Hollywood? Arrange a cake sale at work or with friends to boost your fundraising.

Ask Your Boss. You’ll be stomping your way to 1 million steps over the

next three months and it’s bound to improve your fitness and wellbeing. What’s your company prepared to donate to their new happier, healthier employee? See if they’ll make a donation, match the funds you raise or put a collecting tin in reception for you.

Match Giving. Have you asked your company if they offer match giving? Have

you asked your company if they offer match funding? Some companies will match the amount their staff fundraise, so make sure you check as you could easily double your fundraising in one fail swoop!

Gift Aid. Remind your sponsors that Gift Aid means UK taxpayers

can add an extra 25% to their sponsorship at no extra cost to them.

How to pay in your fundraising. First stop JustGiving, but if you do receive any cheque donations, please send them along with a covering note to the address below:
