Description
Today I am working on putting together a documentary about the effects of paranormal phenomena
on the human mind, I have confirmed three contributors who are willing to talk of their experiences
and the feelings left behind after the event, I have also secured an interview with the head of the
parapsychology department at Manchester university.
Feelings
After failing to deliver my first project I am now feeling less stressed out and more than confident
that I can deliver the finished documentary for the deadline
Evaluation
My evaluation is that even though I was confident in my ability to make the horror film
“necrophantom” I had to rely on other people who couldn’t be tied to a contract as they were
offering their services free of charge.
Analysis
By putting the “necrophantom” project on hold I am able to now fully concentrate on a project that
is infinitely more doable in the time frame I have to finish this project.
Conclusion
Next time I will plan a project better and not try to cram too much into such a small timescale, I
have to learn to not rush in and take on too much work at once.
Action plan
My action plan now is to concentrate on my documentary and nail down the times and dates for
interviews, I will book out the relevant kit, and take last minute advice from my tutor before
commencing,

Description
I have now arranged the three interviews with my contributors and the interview with my
professional the kit has been booked and collected and last-minute checks have been done. I have
provided the professional with the questions I would like him to address and explained to him of the
non-narrative format of the film.
Feelings
I feel that if the interviews go off as planned then I will be able to edit the final piece in time for the
deadline.
Evaluation
The project is going well, I have had verbal confirmation from my client that he is happy for me to
proceed and I have good contributors and some compelling argument which should make the piece
interesting for the viewer.

Description
Today I interviewed Neil Dognall (reader at Manchester university school of psychology and
published author, Neil is also a member of the MMU parapsychology society)
Feelings
The interview went well, Neil was very accommodating and eager to answer the questions I had
prepared for him. I feel that the scientific knowledge he gave will provide a good balance to the
stories from my other contributors. The interview took place at The Birley campus of the
Manchester university.
Evaluation
All in all, a good interview, easy to set up and seemed very natural.
Analysis
The interview will provide a good counter-balance from a scientific point of view.
Conclusion
Neil is very knowledgeable in the field of Parapsychology as well as being very enthusiastic in the
study of the paranormal.
Action plan
To get more interviews from contributors who have had paranormal experiences

Description
Today I interviewed Suzanne Woodhouse (Suzanne has experienced paranormal phenomena from an
early age and believes spirits are attracted to her)
Feelings
The interview went well, Suzanne has a way of telling stories that make you want to sit and listen,
suzanne is very expressive and I feel her experiences could play a large part in the overall piece.
Evaluation
All in all, a good interview, easy to set up and seemed very natural. The interview took place in a
little pub called The Snow goose in Macclesfield
Analysis
The interview has some good points on dealing with the paranormal and a good philosophy on how
she perceives the phenomena.
Conclusion
A good interview and good content for the piece.
Action plan
To get more interviews from contributors who have had paranormal experiences
Page 1 of 1
Learning log 27th Apr 2018
Description
Today I interviewed a lady called Nicola Perkins at her home in Stockport.
Feelings
Nicola had some good stories to tell about the spirit she believes shares her home as well as video
evidence of a full body apparition caught on video.
Evaluation
The interview went well, Nicola was only to happy to talk about her experiences and regards her
spirit with a lot of affection even to the point where she believes he has protected her on more than
one occasion.
Analysis
My analysis is that even if her beliefs are true she is genuinely at peace with the phenomenon that
inhabits her daily life.
Conclusion
Another interesting reaction to the question of paranormal phenomena, this is all helping to build
the case around people’s perceptions of “hauntings”
Action plan
I have two more interviews booked for the 30th and one on the 1st of May, hopefully I can find a couple
more different reactions to the phenomena.

Description
Interview with Beverley and Steven from “Manchester paranormal investigation team”.
Feelings
The interview went very well, I got two contrasting opinions on the subject of hauntings as
Beverley is a staunch believer whereas Steven is a sceptic.
Evaluation
The interviews were shot on canon xf105, positioned in front of the subject, audio was from a zoom
recorder positioned on a table next to the subject, unfortunately the audio for the first interview
with Beverley failed to record on the zoom so I am forced to use the audio from the camera. The
interview with Steven had to be reshot as the camera stopped working halfway through the first
take.
Analysis
Funny how life imitates art, although coincidental that the camera would stop working as well as
the zoom kit even though they had performed well for the previous 3 interviews it is still quite an
indication that unpredictable things do happen and this in other situations could be the one thing
that changes someone’s beliefs in a widely polarizing subject.
Conclusion
Always keep thinking, and have a back up plan, things change and things are unpredictable you
should always plan for every problem, even if you never encounter that problem in real-life.
Action plan
Now my interviews are recorded and in the bag it is time to edit the piece together. I also have to find
b-roll footage.

Learning log 1st May 2018
Description
Shot my final pair of interviews for the documentary
Feelings
I am glad to have been able to piece this part of the process together so quickly and I feel more
confident than I did a week ago
Evaluation
The interviews went well, although I later found out the audio on both interviews had only
recorded into one channel, and the first run of Steven’s interview failed to record at all so had to
be re-shot.
Analysis
My analysis is that there must have been a failure with the technology because at the time of
recording I was getting audio from both channels, and I definitely hit record on the camera.
Conclusion
Conclusion is to be more diligent when using equipment as it can and will let you down
Action plan
To edit the interviews down into manageable chunks for the final edit
Page 1 of 1
Learning log 6th May 2018
Description
After days of editing clips form the interviews to be used in the final piece I am now on the verge of
finishing my film.
Feelings
I feel happy that I am now nearing completion when just a couple of weeks ago I was ready to admit
defeat and give up, my heart is happier now knowing what I can achieve when I have a deadline.
Evaluation
I am now working again on full-confidence in my abilities to provide something for submission which
will be of high quality, it seems I work better under pressure and with a deadline looming.
Analysis
My analysis is that I have learnt a great deal in my time on this course and it has come to serve me
well in this my final project.
Conclusion
Have more belief in myself and what I can do
Action plan
My plan is to finish the edit and then release it to the client and build the social media sites such as
Facebook, Twitter and Youtube ready for when the Mayhem paranormal site officially rolls out.
Learning log 7th May 2018
Description
Finish the edit and release it to the client ready for the social media presence to be built.
Feelings
I have a great film with an interesting subject, I have created a mood within the piece through use of
sound effects.
Evaluation
I am now at ease about submitting my work for evaluation. I have proven to myself that I believe I
have what it takes to work within this industry.
Analysis
My analysis is that I will always have issues with my confidence and I don’t suppose that will ever
change, but when pushed I can deliver, and will continue to do so.
Conclusion
Keep learning, keep developing, keep growing and above all else, keep filming.
Action plan
Sort out the social media presence, build a page on Facebook and Youtube for the Manchester
paranormal investigations team (which I am now part of) and attend meetings of the
parapsychological society at Manchester Metropolitan university as I am now a member of those as
well. All that is left to do is to upload my production paperwork and links to wordpress.

Initial ideas for documentary format
Supranatural investigations
“Supranatural investigations” is a short-form documentary about people’s experiences with paranormal events and the effects it has on their minds and their daily lives. I will be interviewing three contributors who have had “paranormal” phenomena happen to them in their lives
• Subject 1 has experienced a lot of paranormal phenomena growing up in her homeland of Canada and here in the United Kingdom.
• Subject 2 has experienced a haunting for quite some time now and believes that the spirit that is haunting her is protecting herself and her family
• Subject 3 is the owner of The Manchester paranormal investigations team • Subject 4 Is a sceptic
All four subjects will be given the chance to tell their stories on camera and explain how they feel about the experiences and how if anyway has it affected their lives.
I will also be interviewing Nathaniel Dagnall from the Manchester metropolitan university parapsychology society and reader at Manchester metropolitan university to provide insights into the way the human mind processes these events and whether they are indeed paranormal or fall under the science of Parapsychology.
The film will be shot not as an interview with question and answer, but as a non-narrative documentary instead I will be providing Nathaniel with a list of the questions in time for him to work on his answers and filming him as he theorises about each point.
The same style will also be applied when filming the four subjects, no interference from me, I want this to have the feel that they are telling their story.
Supranatural investigations
Proposal
To produce a short-form documentary about people’s experiences with the paranormal and the psychological effects on the human mind. In this film I will be talking to four separate witnesses who have lived through paranormal events or are currently experiencing the phenomena. I will also be talking to professional parapsychologists from the University of Manchester as a balance.
The four witnesses are or have experienced hauntings at different levels.
Contributors
Suzanne Woodhouse
Suzanne experienced a lot of paranormal phenomena growing up and has experienced what she believes to be genuine hauntings.
Nicola Joanne Perkins
Nicola claims to be living in a house haunted by the former resident, she believes he is protecting her and her family
Beverley Maria Curtis-Moore
Owner of The Manchester paranormal investigations team and firm believer in the paranormal
Steven Pearce
Beverley’s partner, also a member of the paranormal investigations team but classes himself as a sceptic.
Nathaniel Dagnall
Nathaniel is a member of the MMU parapsychology department and a published author
Research
For this project I have researched papers on the paranormal and parapsychology

Questions for professionals
1. The existence of the paranormal is a very polarising subject, what is it in your opinion that causes people to have such conflicting opinions on the matter.
2. Studies conducted in Australia in 1989 on 124 students concluded that out of all students tested those who had experienced “extrasensory experiences” such as hearing someone call their name when they were alone or thinking about someone only to hear from that person within a few minutes when they were at rest or engaged in minimal activity such as sitting relaxing or sleeping. Could this explain how most people report hearing noises and other unexplained phenomena at night?
3. How possible is it that when a person sees an object move that it is more likely to be some undiscovered psychokinetic ability rather than the presence of a ghost manipulating the object?
4. Why are people so desperate to believe in the paranormal? 5. Can a lot of what is considered paranormal be explained by parapsychology?
Scene breakdown “Supranatural investigations”
