Joan Durcan OCTOBER 18, 1945 - NOVEMBER 11, 2014 Joan Durcan worked for 40 years as the assistant to Kevin M. Cahill, M.D., President of the CIHC and Founder of the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) at Fordham University. A dear friend to CIHC and IIHA students, faculty, and countless humanitarian aid professionals around the world, Joan was a tireless advocate for those in positions of service and the people for whom they cared. The CIHC is an established 501(c)(3) public charity that aims to professionalize training within the humanitarian sector. By covering a wide variety of topics including disaster management, mental health issues, and negotiations, the CIHC programs equip aid workers with the tools necessary to respond thought- fully and effectively in conflict and post-conflict settings. The CIHC partners with the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) at Fordham University in order to bring the field of humanitarian work to an academic setting.
