Promotion of investments from overseas firms to the afflicted areas
Overseas symposiums, seminars and forumsTo contribute to regional revitalization and job creation through promotion of investment from foreign firms, JETRO has been hosting symposiums and seminars to provide information on measures of the Japanese Government including the system of special zones for reconstruction and incentives for investors, and its energy policies.

“US Environmental Remediation Technologies Mission”Networking meeting between firms of Japan and the US engaged in radiation decontamination・ With Japan’s Ministry of Environment and the US embassy in Japan, JETRO welcomed the mission in June, and co-hosted the networking meeting in Tokyo after briefing participants on the present status of Japan’s efforts towards decontamination throughout the public and private sectors and introduced related technologies of Japan and the US.
・ The meeting was attended by 113 Japanese and 33 US firms, of which 30 US companies joined a tour to Fukushima Prefecture, where they had a meeting with the Governor and visited a decontamination site.

Support for overseas business development of afflicted companies: Agricultural, marine products & foodstuff (1)
Dispatching business mission to explore overseas marketsJETRO plans to send missions to Thailand (September), Singapore (October), Taiwan (December) and Hong Kong (February 2013) to expand sales channels of Japanese food products.
It will also organize events for the quake afflicted area, holding business talks to promote the food business of Yamagata and Iwate (Hong Kong, September 2012) and sending the Aomori - Indonesia Mission to promote business talks for food to Indonesia (schedule not yet decided)
Promotional events and business talks to expand overseas sales channels for Sake - Sake promotion event (Chicago, USA / June 2012) With participation of brewers from Iwate and Fukushima Pref. - Business seminar and talks on Japanese livestock food products and sake (Hong Kong, China / August 2012), etc.
Support service for potential exportsTargeting Japanese SMEs inexperienced in exporting, JETRO’s experts in establishing business strategies, negotiations and contract conclusion provide, in general, two-year tailor-made support. (Taking repercussions of the quake into account, JETRO may extend the term.)
Two companies in Iwate prefecture engaged in the agricultural and marine industry and food business have received support from JETRO.

Chicago, USA / June 2012 JETRO held a seminar where sake brewers from Iwate and a notable US sake journalist delivered speeches about their experience of the quake and post-quake restoration efforts, as well as on market exploration of sake in the US.

-Through the page “Japan Earthquake Recovery Briefing” on its website, JETRO provides accurate information on the recovery of Japan in English, putting up an abundance of online video content, such as that covering interviews with representatives of foreign capital companies operating in Japan and that introducing post-quake restoration efforts of Japanese companies in the afflicted areas.
-The site also provides information useful for foreign companies considering making investments in the afflicted areas.
Information through publicity videos at international trade fairs and seminars-JETRO sets up PR booths at international trade fairs and other events showing video footage to convey facts about Japan’s recovery status.

Provision of information related to business abroad
Information through JETRO Japanese website-JETRO has dedicated a page on its site for information on import restrictions of countries and regions in the world as well as domestic and overseas institutions conducting radiation inspections.
-Since the release of this information, the total number of accesses has reached some 1.57 million (as of the end of June 2012).
-Areas covered: 52 countries and 3 regions (the EU, Hong Kong and Taiwan) -Inspection agencies covered: 248 institutions
(138 domestic and 110 overseas from 26 countries)
Dedicated consultation services-These consultations are in response to inquiries on restrictions of each country and region for Japanese food imports and agencies conducting radiation tests.
Inquiries received: 1,027 (as of the end of Jun. 2012)
-The services include consultations in English for foreign companies operating in Japan making inquiries on the status related to the quake and establishing locations in the afflicted areas.

Information through Seminars and other eventsIn cooperation with prefectural governments and chambers of commerce of the afflicted prefectures, JETRO has held various seminars and other events.Through these seminars centering on trade practice as well as trends in emerging markets and the market for agricultural and marine products and food stuff, JETRO has actively provided information which would contribute to companies and producers in the afflicted areas which aim to expand business overseas.
