Whether Municipal, Healthcare, Education, Retail or Office complex – each building has its specific ventilation requirements. One of the special challenges are underground and multi-story parking garages, where due to the exhaust gases, the air is severely contaminated with carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide. Depending on the concentration and length of time spent in the parking garage, this poses great danger to the users.

Therefore the polluted air needs to be extracted quickly and safely. However, traditional ducted systems which are often used for this application take-up a lot of space, often conflict with other services such as electrical or water lines and must be in operation 24/7 to be effective. This, unfortunately is reflected in the investment, installation and operation costs. Luckily there is now an intelligent alternative to provide Demand Control Ventilation – Jet Fan Ventilation Systems from Systemair.

Jet Fans – also knowns as impulse or induction fans – support the natural flow between the supply-air and extract-air zones. They provide motion in regions with low air speeds, thus guaranteeing the daily ventilation requirements for all areas.

Since Jet Fans are only installed at particular points, they take-up less than 0.5% of the ceiling area – leaving space for increased visibility, room for other trades and possibly reducing story heights with improved overhead clearance. All this – saving time and money.

CFD simulation

On request, Systemair can simulate the air flows within the underground parking garage using CFD simulation (Computational Fluid Dynamics). This means we are able to validate, whether the air motion is sufficient for the required air exchange rate and if the correct quantity of Jet Fans have been planned for the project needs. The installation positions of the Jet Fans will also be determined. All we need is a 3D model of your building, which includes all the flow-relevant information, such as all the openings, ceiling heights and the nature of the ceilings (flat, with beams, etc.). Reliable, effective ventilation and energy-savings are no longer a contradiction of terms, thanks to Jet Fan Systems from Systemair – Demand control ventilation is achievable.

Enclosed parking garages require mechanical ventilation to safeguard the building occupants from emissions of high levels of carbon monoxide (CO) by cars and/or nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from diesel engines. In most enclosed parking garages, the operation of the ventilation system consumes the major portion of the total energy use of the facility. Reducing the energy use for ventilation while maintaining adequate indoor air quality can be achieved using demand control ventilation strategies.

Reference: Car Park Römer in Frankfurt, Germany

Visitors to central Frankfurt can now park in the completely renovated Römer car park with approx. 500 modern parking spaces. A total of 54 AJ8 and IV series jet fans were installed by Systemair to ventilate the new car park. Ten AXC 630 and AXC 500 series supply air duct fans provide the fresh air. The contaminated air is removed by a total of twelve AXC 630 series extract air duct fans, via the roof.
