May, 2018
Dear Friend of Jesuit Retreat House,
We have lived the spirit of the Easter season in a special way
this year amidst all the new life and growth at Jesuit Retreat
House! So much has happened since we broke ground in May two years
ago. We are seeing major increases in the numbers of people we
serve - from parishes and faith communities across the region and
beyond, leadership groups in the Diocese of Cleveland and wider
community, religious communities, high schools and colleges, people
from a diversity of
spiritual backgrounds, and from other local, national and even
international organizations. We are grateful beyond words for the
life and vitality they bring to JRH, and for the joy and
appreciation they express about their experiences on our sacred
grounds. This summer we will continue with renovation work in our
older building as well as improvements to our grounds. We have
raised more than 85% of the $8 million goal for our Capital
Campaign. For those who have not yet had the opportunity to
participate in the campaign, please prayerfully consider how you
can best express your care and support for JRH with a gift. We are
building the foundation for our next 100 years in fulfilling our
mission! I want to add a word of thanks for Timothy Vuksic, our
student intern from the Masters in Non-Profit Administration
program at John Carroll University. He gave over 700 hours of
service since beginning in September - a great experience for Tim
and for our JRH development efforts. God be with you,
“With God, all things are possible.”

A Pilgrim Spirituality for the 21st Century: Music and the
Listening Heart & The Grace of Accompanying Others
in a Divided World
Presented by Dr. Christopher Pramuk
Dr. Christopher Pramuk looks to Ignatius’ self-understanding as
a “pilgrim” as an imaginative framework for exploring the
difficulties and graces in our time of “walking with Jesus.” In his
presentation on Friday evening,
Dr. Pramuk will explore the “listening heart” of Ignatian
spirituality, drawing especially from Fr. Adolfo Nicolas, SJ, who
provocatively suggests musical sensitivity and a “taste for
silence” as central to an Ignatian disposition and way of
proceeding in our relationships with others. Dr. Pramuk is the
chair of Ignatian Thought and Imagination, and associate professor
of theology at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. His books
include Hope Sings, So Beautiful: Graced Encounters Across the
Color Line (2013), a sustained meditation on race relations in
society and church, and two award-winning studies of Thomas Merton
and his relationship to the Feminine Divine.
