State flagMaryland’s state flag is made up of the family crest of the Calvert and Crossland families. The black and gold belongs to the Cecil Calvert family, who founded Maryland and the red and white design belong to the Crossland family which was Cecil’s mother’s maiden name.

Maryland’s climate varies depending on what part of the state you’re in. For example, Baltimore and other towns close to the shore have a warmer climate than areas in the west.
