    Getting children up and moving is not just good for their physical health, but for their mental health as well. During this workshop, participants will explore motor development by differentiating between locomotor and non- locomotor movements. Participants will also learn strategies for separat-ing, simplifying, and facilitating movement activities.

    This workshop is a 2-part series and attending Part 1 is a prerequisite to Part 2. Part 2 takes place on December 9, 2014. Please sign up for both sessions.

    Is There Science in Water Flow at the Water Table?: Taking a Closer Look at Science in the S.T.E.A.M. In this workshop, participants will be able to become familiar with how to implement a water flow study. Integrating technology in the early childhood classroom has become a new trend especially with the implementation of the S.T.E.A.M. Initiative. In this workshop, participants will learn about different types of technology (e.g. pulleys, flashlights) and strategies on how to incorporate it throughout the S.T.E.A.M. components.     Positive Behavior Support (PBS) in the Preschool Class-room Date: December 17, 2014 Time: 12:30-2:55 p.m. Location: P.S. 22 Room 307 Seating Capacity: 25 Presenters: Laurie McNulty, Michele Romano-Sanger, and Eileen Millan Target Audience: District preschool teachers/aides, Contracted child-care preschool teachers/assistants, Contracted family workers, Par-ents Participants will gain an understanding of PBS and how the imple-mentation of social emotional skills and emotional literacy can impact a childs self-regulation and executive function. The tiers of the Teach-ing Pyramid will also be discussed in detail, outlining preventive prac-tices for promoting social competence. Participants will understand how PBS aligns with the HighScope Curriculum, especially with re-gard to the Child Observation Record (COR).

Learn more about controlling symptoms, use of the Asthma Treatment Plan, and strategies for asthma and allergy management.

    Part 1 of this workshop will provide an overview of the typical speech and language errors for 3 and 4-year olds, as well as how to address them in the classroom. Participants will gain an understanding of the language expectations of Pre-K students throughout the daily routine.

    Part 2 is February 2, 2015. Participants must sign up for both sessions of this workshop.

Children benefit from learning how to keep a steady beat as they develop the skills needed for attending and self-regulating.     Engineering with The Three Little Pigs: Taking a Closer Look at Engineering in the S.T.E.A.M. Participants will learn the importance of encourag-ing preschool students to become innovators, inventors, logical think-ers, and problem solvers. You will collaborate, design, and build houses with the three pigs. Lets see what house will be strong enough against the BIG BAD WOLF! This is S.T.E.A.M. Workshop 3 of 5. Participants will thoroughly investigate the characteristics of various art media.

    Suspected Autism in the Preschool Classroom Date: January 28, 2015 Time: 12:30-2:55 p.m. Location: P.S. 22 Room 307 Seating Capacity: 25 Presenters: Laurie McNulty and Michele Romano-Sanger Target Audience: District preschool teachers/aides, Contracted child-care preschool teachers/assistants, Contracted family workers, Par-ents Participants will realize that Autism is a spectrum of closely related disorders with a shared core of symptoms and discuss what those symptoms may look like in preschool aged children, possible causes, and the process of diagnosis and services will also be discussed.

    Encouraging Creative Arts in Project Runway: Taking a Closer Look at the Arts in the S.T.E.A.M. Participants will learn how to incorporate math concepts with the other components of S.T.E.A.M. Come and discuss this story, along with other S.T.E.A.M. activities. This is S.T.E.A.M.
